B&M Magnetic brakes
rollocoast replied to kaliboiryda510's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
IIRC, Nitro was the first B&M with magnetic brakes. I'm pretty sure most (if not all) new B&M's use them. -
Although I highly doubt I could come, I might as well ask. If I came to the event, I'd have to buy the ticket (as SFGAm won't be open), but could I upgrade my ticket to a season pass once the park opens? AFAIK, you can upgrade general admission tickets to a season pass. I'm just wondering if I'd be able to do the same with this ticket...

Does anybody know what happened with that one German kids wooden coaster that was moved (or going to be moved?) there? -

The Shapiro Report
rollocoast replied to DerekRx's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A couple things... "One parent wrote him a letter detailing a visit marked by long lines, closed rides, rude employees, rowdy teens yelling racial slurs and a couple having sex on the Ferris wheel. Shapiro declined to identify the park.' I've got a $1000 riding on Great Adventure! "Based on what Cedar Fair paid for Paramount Parks, Magic Mountain alone could sell for more than $500 million, Speigel estimated." HA! -
Many of SFMM's rides would be a real pain in the ass to move to another park. They're all built for the custom topography and would require excessive modification, or would flat out not work at other parks. Ninja comes to mind... There are a few that would work though... Scream, Batman, Riddlers to name a few. If the park does get sold, I could see those being moved to other parks.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
rollocoast replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A new (albeit small) flume would fit quite nicely in there... And they could use WWL's old station. Just speculating -
I always thought Dragon Mountain was a fun ride. Sure it's not the best thing ever, but I like it more than most Arrow loopers. The thing that gets me going is the theming... Could you imagine if they would've actually completed everything? Man, it'd be WILD!

^ I've been to Mt. Olympus quite a few times in recent years and not once was my lapbar or seatbelt not checked. While the ride op's there may not speak much english, they still generally know what they're doing. My big question is why do you need spiels to be considered safe? Besides CP, how many parks really use spiels religiously? Are you telling me that those parks aren't safe? Move along. -

^ Actually, I totally disagree with your whole statement. Parks should (and do!) watch out for their guests safety! To think that they shouldn't is just stupid. Whether it be putting fences around low areas of rides, or checking lapbars, everything should be done in a safe manner. Why? Because people (especially in this country) are f*cking stupid!!! Like that dumbass Yankees fan a couple years ago that jumped from the upper deck into the netting behind home plate just to see if it'd hold him... Yeah, people in this country are f*cking stupid. Now, I don't agree that Mt. Olympus needs fencing around their rides. It's safe the way it is. That picture is actually slightly mis-leading. The ride is nowhere near a midway and is at least 90 feet away from the queue... Which has rails on both sides, and is surrounded fairly large rocks. While not too visually appealing, that - to me - is safe. The only way you'd get over there is if you intentionally jumped the queue railing and walk over a bunch of jagged rocks for a 100 feet or so. If someone is that desperate to get underneath the ride, they'd jump a fence, or do whatever it took to get there... And if that's the case, go right ahead. -

Kingda Ka- Who cares?
rollocoast replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I hate to reply to a post from so long ago, but sorry slick, your wrong. Dragster launches is in the low-to-mid 4's. Kindga Ka is mid-to-uppper 3's. It's worth the drive for me, even though it's about 1000 miles... Kindga Ka is just rediculous, and Great Adventure is an amazing park. While I do agree that Great Adventure has had some fairly serious problems with customer service, they've really turned it around. This year was the first since 2003 that I've visited the park, and all I can say is WOW! I've never seen the park look so great! It was extremely clean, the employees all genuinely cared, were friendly, and had a smile on their faces. The lines were managed, and all the rides were running at maximum avaliable capacity. I was totally blown away by how much the park has changed in the past few years. If you haven't been there in a while, I highly recommend another trip back. It's just that damn good! -

Robb - Would stills out of video be alright, or do you want "real" pictures? If so, I've got an assload of pics you can use. -
^^ The video is still up. http://www.robbalvey.com/contest2005/terramitica.zip I haven't been there, but it looks like a nice park from the video.
