PTR: My 2007 Japan/Korea trip with TPR
Loefet replied to Loefet's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
September 2:nd Day 3, Togos and fast trains. Coaster today = 5 Coasters in total = 10 This day we started early so we could go to Yomiuriland before it opened to get some ERT.... I mean for us to have a Filming Session on Bandit. So we arrived a while before they opened, but somehow there was people in the park riding, but they were so few and the ops let fixed so that we could all ride together as a group. First up was Bandit, not a bad coaster at all, it's somewhat like Lisebergbanan, with swooping drops close to ground and trees and have some forceful turns and some helices. They were running 2 trains this day, one for "normal" Bandit and one for "splash" Bandit. They had multiple places where they soak the "splash" train down with fire hoses, they even gave water guns to by standing visitors 8) . They also had one Backwards train standing on the transfer track for using when it's to cold to have the wet train running. Then we got on White Canyon, my first RCCA woodie, and I don't think that it to bad, some of the Blackpool ones are worse then this, but it wasn't still all that good either, so one ride would do. Momonga is another shape shifting Togo coaster in this park. On one side it's stand up and on the other sit down. We rode both sides and they are equally good. And I didn't find the Stand up side train be that nut bustin' ride that everyone is talking about. Wan Wan Coaster Wandit, just your average kiddie coaster, but with added bubbles. SL coaster is another strange Togo coaster with really slow lift and heavy breaking on the MCBR:s so it wasn't as wild as it could have been. After a few hours in the park we headed back to the hotel, because we were going to make a 600 mile transfer to our next hotel, and the best way to go long distances in Japan is by train, bring on Shinkansen... We made a quck stop in Osaka to change train and grab a snack to eat, and we arrived at our hotel in Hakata pretty late that night. Pictures: Train to Yomiuriland Looks like we are in the right place Skyway to from the station to the entrance, that's service And there is Yomiuriland White Canyon Poor mascot Welcome Bandit's entrance Every park have one, and I don't like any of them... Give me some Aquarius now Momonga comes in 2 fashions, sit down or... Stand up Wiii Helixy Enthusiasts doing what they do best SL Coaster Haunted house See last caption The flying Robots Ride Some live action Senshis Battling a pen holder, WTF... Now onto more Bandit shots Robb spots a camera Typical reaction Yes Kitty-chan we will visit you soon Cool Shinkansen trains The red one is our Thats our car Man these trains are fast Whoosh Nice scenic view from the train -

September 1:st Day 2, Arriving in Japan. Coaster today = 5 Coasters in total = 5 Arrived at Narita Terminal 1 at about 9:30, rushed through immigration and customs, and after that meat up with Tom by the JR Travel Center at the station, but he wasn't there... He had some trouble with his flights and arrived about an hour later with another flight, I didn't care really since there were an abundance of Japanese chicks to rest my eyes on . After we met up and got our rail passes we caught the train towards Shinagawa, Tokyo to meat up with the rest of the group, check in and start getting credits. We had 2 parks on the itinerary today with a total of 5 coasters. First up was Aqua Stadium, which was conveniently placed in the back of the hotel complex we were staying at. First coaster of the trip was Galaxy Express 999, a cool Intamin hydraulic launched coaster, with single row cars with T-bars, I wished that I had watched some Galaxy Express episodes before I left so i knew what they were talking about in the long pres-how, but the ride was good anyway. The ride is more or less just a big helix and took some of us by surprise with it's loop and it's power. After that we headed for LaQua, and on the way there we made our first acquaintance with the mass transport system of Tokyo. All went well except for Robb to get caught in the door of the train. First coaster at LaQua was Linear Gale, this is the first Intamin impulse coaster, and it was pretty mediocre especially since they only run it at half speed, but it made a pretty cool noise when it passed through the station. Next up was Geopanic, this was my first encounter with Togo designed rides, and it's good but very WTF at the same time, a fun coaster that I love to ride again. Then we went for Spinning coaster Maihime, this was the tamest of the Maurer Sohne spinner I have been on, but it was pretty fun anyway. Last coaster for today were Thunder Dolphin, and it looked better then it delivered, even though the first drop was awesome. They had the weirdest safety regulations I have ever seen, and the ops were running around and checking everyones pockets for loose objects. But the key for the lookers wre fine to bring on the ride. WTF... We managed to get a few rides on Tower Hacker at the end, this must be one of the best Intamin drop towers I have been on, especially in the side facing the spinning coaster, since the roof over the coaster fools you that you are going to hit the ground. Pictures: Narita Express toward Shinagawa Lobby of our hotel Our room Most awesome toilet ever!! Outside Aqua Stadium A part of our hotel complex Waiting for the train towards Akihabara Mmmm, Intamins Looks fast, but should be faster Somewhere here is Geopanic Wonder if the train designer is a Baseball fan Spinnnning... Next Thunder Dolphin Boarding Thunder Dolphin area by night It gets dark pretty fast here. -
A new year, new trips. But, I have to finish up last year and do a trip report from the best trip EVAR!! (and by doing this it will give me some light in the dark and cold winter up here in northern Sweden). For anyone who is interested in some kind of list of all parks we visited, I don't have any but the parks are in order. To start things off: I have been waiting a long time to go on some kind of trip to Japan, and then this came up and I couldn't pass this opportunity up, so I actually to a break from the University to work so I could pay for all this (I needed a break anyway after living one year in Kiruna (possibly the most boooring town ever)). So after working a year talking about nothing other then about this trip with my coworkers (thanks to you all to not go insane) the time for the trip to begin came. And this is a recap of what happened...... August 31:st Day 1, The Flight. Coaster today = 0 Coasters in total = 0 The started on a rainy August day from the Landvetter airport outside Gothenburg and there i boarded a SAS MD-80 at 10:40 to fly down to Copenhagen (Kastrup airport), after waiting a few hours and exiting the EU I boarded the SAS A340 at 15:45 towards Narita Airport in Japan. Pictures: Flight from Gothenburg Japan here I come... Isn't she a beaut

^ That video isn't made by the Park. But NL is a great tool to show how rides would look like in reality. -

Kinda good start but you really have to work on your heart-lining, the 2 major areas would be the drop from the MCBR and the final turn. You should (in my opinion) split your station (it's way to long for just one train) and time it so the track runs 3 trains instead, so you use the fact that you have the MCBR. The supports are spaced pretty good for the exception of the last turn, and you have to think about not connecting multiple tubes to footers or track-nodes. The drop into the launch should be an ordinary piece of track instead of a brake-run, to keep it real. -

Does it pass the 'I like it test' or the 'It was good test'? But your comment doesn't pass the 'Informative test'.Ok, to make the post more informative: No it doesn't pass the "I like it test" because it doesn't pass E-stop test. But that's the way I see it, if your coaster can't pass basic tests like tunnel-testing and E-stop testing to test safety of the ride then the coaster isn't done yet and need more work, and thats why I wont like it, only after it's completely done then I could say if I liked it or not. Some other thing to think about: You don't have to have 3 trains and a dual station setup for this short track, a more realistic approach would be a 1 station ride running 2 trains. You have to work on your supports, the track is under supported, and those square stuff under the lift-hill wouldn't work in reality. Other things about the supports are, never attach 2 tubes to a footer or a track node connection. And I don't like AHG:d track since it takes away from your build style and often makes tracks worse then they are, which could be felt on several points during this ride. But that is my preference in track designing and I also want to create tracks that are as close to reality as possible. -

Great coaster with nice air and a lot of insane twisty sections.

New update from the 24:th posted earlier today. The lift-hill structure is almost complete. The drop after the first air-time hill looks to be really great. There seems to be some kind of MCBR before the "Balder-like" section, but the airtime you will get from riding back row might be really awesome. I hosted an overall image from the page, due to it was running slow. Link: http://blog.naver.com/fl0621/80046330972 -

^ The Bat was actually the second suspended coaster, MBB made a suspended coaster called "Alpenflug" for Oktoberfest in Munich, that failed for the same reasons, it only operated for the 2 weeks of the Oktoberfest, But Arrow didn't care/know of these problems. There are videos of the Arrow test track for the suspended with a corkscrew, so they have actually tested it, too bad it wasn't realized in the end. Anyway good finds Shane, it's really interesting to read this old stuff, I just hope that you have more stuff. -

Two words for you. "Continuous Roll" The track jerked every time you passed by a node, since you didn't use continuous roll on the nodes. Use "con roll" on every node except them you want to be straight. But overall a really good twisty track. -
And if you get any it's ridiculously overpriced, so many people south of Stockholm drives south to the big cheap stores called: Denmark and Germany. Norway is crazy expensive, but their wages are higher.

New update from the 14:th posted today!! http://blog.naver.com/fl0621/80045960775 This thing really look massive, but comparing the progress with the image below you can clearly see that its much left, and also the turn after the first airtime hill doesn't go as far down as on the model. Bring on September. -
^ Haven't actually done anything on this coaster (or any other coaster) since last update really, since I have 2 exams coming up soon. So I have been studying hard for them instead. So it might take a while before it's finished, but most likely sometime during late winter/early spring.

Nice!! Do you have some more pictures of that Schwarzkopf one? I would be really interested if you have.

With Japanese naming of rides I would guess that it's called "Wild Storm", because that's what it's called at Expoland, and Mt. Ikoma Amusement park (haven't been able to find the name at PalPal). And I can't find anything about it either, I even tried to Google it in Japanese, but still come up with nothing. Maybe Shane's attic might have some Togo folders with info..... Picture of Wild Storm at Mt. Ikoma Amusement park (about 1/3 down) Nice to see some pictures of Godzilla though, I heard stories about you getting there, but didn't see many pictures. -

Those are the brakes, same kind of brakes that is used on several Meisho coasters. Example: Big Boom - Nasu highland Park
