Quite a few older wooden coasters use chain connected to a center post in turns. You would really miss out on a lot of good classics if you didn't ride because they use cables/chains. I don't see the problem with cables anyway. If they are tension only members, a cable is the most efficient way to carry the load.

The way that track flexes while going thorugh the loop is quite scary. You can see the wires deflecting because the track moves so much. Fatigue will be an issue with this thing for sure. (i'd still give it a try)

For a second I thought the fire was their way of quickly tearing down the building, but since they put the fire out, I guess it really was an accident.

All this talk of Ikea got me to finally finish staining and cutting the plexiglass top for my Hol storage "cube" turned coffee table. It looks great, though it's a bit taller than I expected. The catalog pic (I stained mine darker):

Hmm, I actually have never noticed those before. I will have to check them out. I would still prefer to be able to type them in (or align them along one of the primary axes) but this should be a little helpful.

I don't think there is a way to do this, but i figure I'll ask. Is there a way to enter the coordinates for support nodes rather than moving them manually? I set pieces of my track and control points this way and it seems silly that I cannot do the same for support nodes but i cannot find away to do it.

re: subject of this thread so if we dislike Barco then we hate Intamin? That's funny since in general i love Intamin, but really was underwhelmed by Baco. It's great that it's open, still makes me wonder what the problem was. Perhaps it needed to be supported like Parque Attractionnes' Tornado

I did some research on curved glue lam timber and that is not how it is made for structural applications. FOr structural beams it is formed (much like concrete). Again, i would be shocked if is cut for the coasters as you say since the grain would be oriented non perpendicular, and there would be a ton of waste.

Only way to go would be with a launch since it would take forever and a day for a traditional coaster to get any apreciable speed. As far as what kind of launch, i'd have to say i'd stay away from hydraulic with the change in pressure.

Ok, i have a question with the whole plug and play track. Is the track shape really cut out of a block of glulam? This is different from my understanding of the way glulam timbers are made for the building industry which is to laminate thin strips of wood in the shape of the final piece. Since the layers are thinner, they are easier to bend. There is also no major cutting required.

RE: Coming out day. I was considering coming out to my cousins on Facebook yesterday, but didn't. My extended family is the last group i really want to tell but haven't. (well besides work, but the whole dealing with construction makes that odd). I assume the family would be fine. Afterall, my uncle's sister and her partner sometimes come to gatherings and everyone is ok. I have told one aunt, but that is it. I just don't know how to do it. But i better get my act together if i want to bring my bf to holiday stuff this year.

I think he is talking about the tv in the top right of this pic. I am sad since i killed my 80's TV by inadvertantly pushing it out of the cabinet it was in. In it's demise it also ca.strated my tivo. Poor poor tivo, no longer has a coax output.

It isn't for the airtime in the drop, but i have to say the scariest drop I have been on is Abismo. That flip is just insane. I would not recommend, however, leaving any room in your restraint for some extra airtime. That made the flip all the scarrier. Jonny -yes i really am that dumb- Az

Congrats on 35 years together. That is a great accomplishment. I guess there is hope for me and my water and family rides only better half. (though i think i got him to love Boulder Dash) Congrats again.

I just read those tow posts together as "you still get to torture chris" I think this is a most excellent idea.
