Well I don't know all the details so maybe someone else with more knowledge can tell the story. From what I remember, TLC was scheduled to do a show and it was part of the admission but there wasn't room in the venue for everyone that wanted to attend so there was a HUGE riot and they had to close down the park and call out the riot squad. It was huge news in SO CAL and lots of bad publicity for the Mountain. -

Yes there used to be a sky ride that took you from the main entrance back to the Grand Slam Canyon. It was removed and sold to Water World in Denver, CO. -

^ Did you also see that TLC was on the lineup? That is the concert that caused the big riot at the park. After that riot they stopped having concerts there. I have seen some GREAT concerts at Magic Mountain: Howard Jones, Go-Go's and Missing Persons! -

Time to take a commercial break form our normal programming. While downloading my videos to TPR TV I have come across some commercials that I overlooked during the TV commercials posts so I thought I would post them here. After the Gurnee accident all the Free Falls where closed down for longer than a month. The major change that was made was the sequencing of the cars while the ride was in operation. If you watch the video on the Demon Drop you can see that once one car is lifted up the elevator shaft the next car moves into position underneath it. After the accident the lower car would not move into that position until the car above it was out of the tower and in the postion to fall. This was to prevent one car from falling onto the one below as was the case in Gurnee. Six Flags over Texas & Six Flags Magic Mountain's Free Falls were the only two that had the spread legs at the bottom of the towers and at the time they opened they did not have the stair case that went up the side of the towers. It is also interesting to look at the rendering of the Free Fall from the Intamin catalog. They show that the capacity was based on 14 cars of 2-3 passengers per car. -

Intamin 1st Generation Free Falls Happy New Year Everyone. I guess when my thread drops to the second page it is time for an update. I took some time off because I spent the holidays back in the Smoky Mountains. I love Dollywood during Christmas time! I racked up some new credits while there...3 to be exact. I loved Tennessee Tornado and Mystery Mine. Thunderhead I felt was a little overrated, but when it comes to woodies I much prefer the up and down drops to the twisters. So now for an update. I have gone through my stuff and have gathered what I have on Intamins 1st generation Free Falls. It includes some photos of the original model that was displayed at the IAAPA show as well as some press releases from parks that installed them. When these rides first debuted, they were the absolute sh*t. I worked as a ride operator on the Magic Mountain version and I remember the line extending for over an hour and a half wait. the public loved them! Of course as technology improved these rides became dated rather quickly and as we have seen in the last couple of years, most of them have been replaced by the newer Intamin drop towers or the S&S version. Here is some of my footage of two of the rides, first the original Texas Cliffhanger at Six Flags over Texas which I shot opening year with super 8 film and second is some stock footage from Cedar Points Demon Drop. -Shane [tprtv]http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=TexasCliffhanger[/tprtv] [tprtv]http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=DemonDrop[/tprtv] not sure why the TPV version will not show up here in my post so you can either click on the link to see or just view it from youtube. Demon Drop. The only installation left in Northern America This photo is actually the Free Fall at Six Flags Magic Mountain Six Flags Great America's "The Edge" notice that Six Flags over Mid-America is listed as having a free fall. I am not sure what the story is with this installation, I always thought it strange that ALL Six Flags parks had one installed except the St. Louis park. This early rendering shows a different approach back to the station. -

For the last couple of days I have missed being able to post my postcards here. I took a short trip down to Palm Springs but could not get back to Salt Lake due to all the snow and cancelled flights. I love the Disney Christmas postcard and can't wait to see what Bill can offer up to this thread, he should have some really old ones as he himself is as old as dust (love ya!) Continuing on with my mine train theme, here is the Rock n roller coaster from Opryland It doesn't say much for Opryland's ride line up when this is described as one of their most thrilling rides. So looks like Disney lifted this name. -

Cedar Point Wintertime Since most of us are probablly covered in snow at this time I thought this news clip would be appropriate. This video goes back to the winter of 1986 the year before Iron Dragon opened. It shows all the activities that go on at Cedar Point in the off season to get ready for the summer. I hope everyone enjoys their Holidays, I will be off to Dollywood with my family to enjoy a gold ol Smokey Mountain Christmas. -Shane -

EUROPA PARK **WARNING: this post contains boobs ** With all the excitement of "Blue Fire", Mack's new coaster at Europa Park, I thought I would post this old souvenir book from the park. Europa Park was the highlight for me of the TPR Europe trip. It is themed beautifully, the rides were GREAT, and all around it was just top notch. Yes I hear the complaints about Silver Star just being mediocre, but we were treated to a couple of rides with the brakes off and it was a completely different ride. Europa Park is a "not to miss" park so all you Americans start saving your money...you won't be dissapointed. (well I am sure someone will, it always seems like there is a party pooper in every group) Merry Christmas -Shane PS - I can't believe I stooped to the level of Big Mike...but these boobs are for artistic reasons not to get big ratings...lol Here it is...oh the shame -

I love seeing those pictures of Superman from that perspective. What an awesome ride that is and you rarely get to see it from those angles. Thanks for posting them. -
Those are some cool pictures of Roaring Rapids, that is from the year it opened. Amazing how different it looks now.

The River King Mine Train at Six Flags over Mid-America. I am not sure if this is the one that is still at the park or the one that was sold to Dollywood and then to Magic Springs...anyone know? -
