KD If you have a CF platinum pass you get to walk back to a ride first. Do Volcano First thing!!! (Dominator has a huge line in the morning but is walk on at about 2-5) Volcano has no test seat but rarely do I see someone turned away no single rider lines at KD Outer Hanks is pretty good and Victorias pizza next to Drop Zone has good eats. BG BBW opens between 11-1130 no max height for Grover Pompeii is really good too Get to BG really EARLY you can get a ton done if you are there when they drop the ropes. Have fun JEFF

Dominator is my Favorite Floorless (always has been since 2000) I think the best thing about it is that it is UNIQUE and not like almost every other floorless where it is just Inversion after Inversion (Most in this order Loop, dive loop, 0 G roll, cobra roll, MCBR, corkscrews etc.) It cracked me up when it was coming to KD and everybody was complaining about no 0 G roll....hello Volcano is a short walk away. I think of all the former Paramount parks KD has made out the Best through 2010. Thanks for all the compliments on the pics. hopefully we will be able to see construction from doswell road in the winter. JEFF -
Carowinds Discussion Thread
pkdcoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I am really happy for Carowinds. they really needed a big coaster. Me personally I would rather have I305, (much more unique ride IMO, plus I love fast turns on the ground). I think CF really made the right move with these coasters, We have had Apollo in VA for 10 years and putting one (B&M hyper) at KD really would not be a very newsworthy event. Some notes about the coaster- I like all the twisting in the turnaround but it looks very rampy. -I hope it goes faster than the animation...to me it just looks very slow. I am thrilled to be getting 2 big coasters so close next year. JEFF -

pkdcoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Went up to the park tonight with my Son and we had a blast. the park was empty but everybody in that place could not stop talking about I305. We do have 3 new supports up (at least, from what I can tell) Almost all the foundations are down I would say about 80% done. They are really humming along. Here are alot of pics from today. Another thing I was thinking about. Night rides on this thing should be Awesome due to its secluded (and un-photogenic) positioning, as long as lights are not put way out there. although I am sure the lift will be lit up. JEFF The soon to be entrance plaza Station foundation already going in I went around today taking pics of everything that was sure to change next year due to snoop dog moving in, and I noticed this sign in HB land and sadly it is the best damn sign in the park! go figure oh yea, In case you were wondering Dominator's grass has filled in quite nicely and you would have never known that 2 years ago it was a parking lot. a little hard to see but alot of footers are done on the first turn Alot of work and digging needed for the 3 Big foundations Few footers waiting to be poured (rebar in) Nothing to see here They put the art stuff up on the Tower...pretty cool place for it Already have the merch. out Aidan would have been happy to sit here for 4 hours and watch it. (but Dad said NO) They put the model in the gift shop This stuff is Huge lots of track here Intamin orgasm mmmmmm Beefy more twisting Twisty The Adena guys must bow down and kiss the Intamin sexiness every hour. Geeeez Dad, when are you going to Shut up about this ride??? First we will start with the new supports 2 in plain sight and one of the tiny supports (2nd s-curve threading needle) hidden behind the trees -

BGE vs. Kings Dominion
pkdcoaster replied to iplf's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If you are starting in VA (not coming from CP or SFgrtadv) I would do BGE in the morning. For some reasons the crowds do not show up until noonish. few weeks ago arriving at 10 we got 1 ride on grover, 6 rides on Apollo, 2 on BBW, 3 on Alp and 3 on Griffon before 1pm. KD has a twilight reduced admission (I don't think BGE does) KD is also open later sun-thur in the summer season. This would be my advice if you are really into getting the most thrill rides in for your buck. BGE first half of the day and KD in the evening. It is only a 1 hour drive between them. Both have a few outstanding coasters. I would definitely hit both. JEFF -

pkdcoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
After a few days of studying this thing and the Forums I just do not get the massive amount of negativity towards a new Intamin Giga. Personally I think it is just people trying to get a rise out of other people cause it is so cool to be negative apparently. It seems like CF wanted it to be different than MF (no overbanks, more ground hugging raw speed moments, more airtime). Regardless of what ANYONE thinks on this or any other site. the ride will be a HUGE hit at the park and surely bring in the crowds. Only 8 months to go JEFF -

ugghhh...what is the deal with everybody complaing about the colors? KD has no red coasters or any with yellow supports. what is the problem? I am a little bummed about the OTSR but I think the ride looks fantastic!! I don't know but I think the animation makes it look slower than it will be going. This thing will be hauling ass the whole way. JEFF -

Well I went today for the Whole day and sad to say that BBW only managed to run for about 3 hours then had a major Breakdown. It opened at 11:30 (which is the norm) and noticed around 3 that there was a train stuck on the 2nd lift and was there for about 30 min. When we went back over to BBW about an hour later there was a train in the station, one behind it and another in the block before the 2nd lift. It sucks cause our main objective was to get many rides on BBW today but only Managed 2 due to the Breakdown. Kinda has me worried that if something major did break on the ride that they would just close it for good. I haver never seen it down for so long during they day like that But on a positive note the crews at all the coasters were VERY efficient and All coasters running Max trains. Griffon & Apollo were running Awesome. JEFF

I do not see why people think that BGW and KD are in this heated competition. I do not think CF said "how can we pull families from BGW to our park, thats it! a Giga coaster!" for the past 34 years, VA and its tourists have proven that we can support both and they are both big nice parks. I am going tomorrow with my son (he's 5 and BBW is his Favorite) to stock up on some rides, before she leaves. I wonder if there are any in park notices of the BBW doom. anybody been since the announcement? I am really wondering what AB/Inbev plan to do with this land. Inbev had nothing to do with Manta's creation so I am not sure about a flyer. I wonder if they think grover is a suitable replacement for the Wolf (same height rest.) I too am under the impression that if the original AB was still around we would not be saying goodbye to the Wolf. I have very fond memories of BBW dating back to my 1st ride in 1987. It was just so cool and crazy back then to me to be under the track and swinging. I remember being a kid and mimmicking the suspended cars motions while running through my house and pretending the stairs were the big drop. It really makes me sad that Aidan (my son) probably won't remember too much of it when he grows up (how much do you remember about your 5th year?) I was hoping BBW would be around for alot longer but money talks unfortunatly I could not stop thinking about it this weekend, it is just very depressing and the worse is still to come when they actually start demo work. There is a small hope I guess that they might change their mind, if 6 flags can save a classic surely BGW can too. depressed in VA JEFF

Man this sucks...I always thought that this and LNM were the traditional staples of the park that they would never get rid of. Guess I better get the use out of my platinum pass before labor day. My son is gonna be so sad. Its His favorite coaster of the 13 he has been on. Another thing is why Labor Day??? BGW can't keep it running for 2 more months during Halloween for night rides. Not like they are gonna have the "future attraction" open for next year. More than likely it will sit as a vacant area for 3-5 years. After this season I probably won't go back till a new coaster is built. I don't think I could stand to see that huge empty hole in the park. JEFF

I think that a dead giveaway that it is NOT a vertical lift is the fact that the lift pieces have supports for stairs. A vertical lift would not have that. (Fahrenheit has a spiral staircase) JEFF -

I was there this morning too and WE HAVE CONFIRMATION INTAMIN GIGA!!!! needless to say I am stoked!! my connection is really crappy now will post more soon JEFF note bumber and more odd track support connections transfer/station pieces note: "Giga Coaster" surrounded by Intamin packing tape (box was a bunch of washers) -
Great pics dude! Here are some of mine from the trip. I really liked the park a lot. it was just depressing being there on a summer Saturday with great weather and it was a ghost town. I thought Natatonic's TR's deserted look was just cause it was a weekday but that is not the case. We all had a great time even though the coasters were not mind blowing. but they were all fun and pretty unique. I Loved the music selection throughout the park and all the great tunes blasting on the Coasters was really cool and well done. I was really impressed with the Time Machine's audio and Station theming (album covers). Nothing beats rocking out to Ice Ice baby on a B&M! JEFF It went down as we left due to heavy ridership yes that is 1 (one) person on the whole train some wicked storms all around the park, but the rides never stopped running why so short? but hey it was running!!!! Taken as my hat was aboot to blow off! (one of us lost a hat earlier on Iron Horse) Chris has the biggest this is Lunch rush hour at FMP very photogenic I really liked it. But why the hell is it Braked so hard!!! trim and MCBR on way too hard alot of unneeded touches to the time machine. (you cannot see it from inside the park) Glad they got to keep this

I just got back from the park. Just 6 pieces of track and a lot of tiny support pieces around. I think it is an Intamin. but we will see. here are some close up pics. JEFF little baby supports left these pieces are MASSIVE notice the different connections to the supports. Some square and some circular. looks like a straight piece...but it is not cone shaped crossties for extra support -

It is Not a B&M If you look at the part of the supports that connect to the track they are circular (more like Intamin) B&M connections are more boxy (square)to the track. I am thinking (hoping) Intamin Hyper. JEFF
