Thorpe Park Discussion Thread
gax replied to Rooey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
But... those mazes are basically, crap, lol. And the main problem I have with this (I have a LOT of problems with this, I basically think it's a terrible, terrible idea) is that Thorpe had the chance here to build a ride to FINALLY fill in the 1.2m height restriction gaping hole they have in the park, and now they've gone and shot themselves in the foot in my opinion by making it so that this market of "I don't quite want to do Stealth, lets do this" is now isolated. Plus, the Saw films were over by 2005. Actually, the saw films still make more money than any other horror franchise right now. Thorpe have the opportunity to work with an actual film studio to create a ride, this is something we have never seen in the UK before and will probably provide one of the best themed coasters Britain has ever had. The saw labelling will bring in many, many more customers than just a plain 'minetrain' theme would and will give Merlin more money to invest in Thorpes future rides. The park has always said they are aiming for the older 'thrill-seeking' age bracket and this ride suits that down to the ground. I think this is definitely a perfect investment for the park. -

I think this ride will actually be AMAZING! Just look at the website http://www.sawtheride.com/ That actually sends shivers down my spine. Apparently the ride will have a 15+ age restriction which will be odd for a roller coaster but shows how cool it's going to be. The woman behind it is the woman who created Thorpe's amazing halloween mazes as well. I'm really excited! -
Pizza Hut have decided to change many of their UK branches name to 'Pasta Hut' to promote a healthier image. As far as I'm aware this isn't happening in the US, and due to the bad reception, looks like it'll be a temporary thing. Full story here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/3145545/Pizza-Hut-to-become-Pasta-Hut.html Very strange!

Alton Towers Discussion Thread

Yeah the secret weapon name comes from what was to be the theme of the 2 originally planned pipleline coasters as some sort of 'Nuclear weapon' idea. All 3 of the SW's that were actually built have been B&Ms so that could point to a B&M hypercoaster dropping down into the valley, and this would take away the problem of height restrictions with the valley being a good 200 feet deep. They are also drafting John Wardley back in who was responsible for the theming work on Nemesis. When you think that Rita wasn't even classed as a 'Secret Weapon' ride, it looks as if we could have something special coming up -

It's not a rumour, it's been confirmed as happening. We just don't know which road Alton Towers will take out of a number of options that have been discussed. -

Current rumours point towards a Vekoma custom minetrain in the style of Expedition Everest. Bear in mind though this is just a rumour! -

Just an update on what's going on at Alton Towers. The area Merrie England is being transformed into Mutiny Bay It will include two new rides Battle Galleons, a splash battle, and Heave Ho which will be a Rockin Tug. The teacup ride will also be rethemed to exploding barrels rather than cups, and called Marauders Mayhem. The following images are from Alton Towers Almanac: The pirate ship that will be situated in the battle galleons queueline. Theming on the front of the ship. The splash battle site so far. The full set of construction pictures can be found here: http://gallery.towersalmanac.com/thumbnails.php?album=502 The artist's impression of Battle Galleons and Mutiny Bay that Alton Towers have released. And off topic slightly, the new Alton Towers logo. -

This video from itv news shows what happened and gives a good idea of the damage. http://player26.narrowstep.tv/nsp.aspx?player=CEN_News_26 Apparently the cause was one of the halogen lamps used in this years scarefest. -

Chessington and Thorpe are both doing this now as far as I'm aware. Alton Towers is charging for maps once in the park from guest services etc. but one map per party is given free at the entrance due to the size of the park and how easy it is to get lost. (not that the crappy map really helps...)

awesome pictures. I wanna ride griffon so much! -
Just watching the news in the UK, and there was a small feature about this announcement. It said, amongst other things, "a new theme park in florida based on the books", i think they were just basing this on the 'theme park within a theme park' quote though. And "it will include a hogwarts express roller coaster", new credit??

Ive visited DLP quite a few times and never have found Space Mountain to be THAT rough, and Rock n roller coaster is a really different ride, they might be similar in a lot of ways but they still just feel different. Indiana Jones i really don't like, it feels rough, painful and isn't really very fun except the loop which is ok. Ive always considered Paris as the more 'mature' disney park.. But I do belive that the Magic Kingdom at paris is second to none, phantom manor is easil the best haunted house ive ever ridden, BTM is amazing, and the theming is, in my opinion, better than any other disney park.

Question About Dive and Rocket Coasters
gax replied to ThemeParkCommando's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
as a lot of other people have said, I've never had any problems with rocket coastaers, but dive coasters can be intimidating. The first time I went on oblivion at Alton Towers, when I was about 13, I was SO scared, but since then I must have been on it about 40 times. But when I went on Sheikra earlier this year, I was still absoulutley terrified. I dunno why, it's just made to be initimidating I guess. But as soon as I started falling down the drop I loved it, and managed 3 re-rides perfectly fine! -

Most Overrated coaster?
gax replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can't really say I've ever been REALLY dissapointed by a coaster because of the hype it's gotten. The most I'd day I've ever experienced it was on the Mummy at USF. I mean, I wasn't expecting much from it when I first saw it being constructed and stuff like that, but then reviews and forums seemed to all be saying it was amazing. And I noticed in Florida that Universal had advertised it as a 'phycological thrill ride', but to be honest it was a mediocre coaster with one or two cool effects, it was really fun, but not the really scary awesome thing I was expecting.. -
