The Best Woodie under 75 feet Tall
no_brain_er replied to MagnumForce's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Of the few smaller woodies I've been on, I'm gonna go with Swamp Fox at Family Kingdom in Myrtle Beach, SC. It's got just the right amount of roughness (not smooth, but doesn't beat you up), plus a few really good pops of airtime towards the end. Also, it's a John C. Allen original, so there's some good history behind it as well. Not to mention, the view of the ocean and Ocean Blvd right before the first drop is perfect. -
Anyone on here like anime or manga?

^Elfen Lied was almost too much for me to take in when I first watched it. I watched all 13 episodes over two days, which was probably a big mistake on my part. Of all of the series I've watched so far, I think it's probably my least favorite (next to Yuru Yuri, which has its moments but is overall pretty bland), but it's still good for what it is. Also, the classroom scene in Aku no Hana was a total game changer for me. It's gonna take a LOT of effort for another series to capture something so tragically beautiful, in my opinion. That song, man. That song... Also also! I forgot to add Kiniro Mosaic to my list of anime I've watched. It's yet another high-school-girl show, but it's actually pretty funny. It also has the most Engrish of any series I've ever watched ever, mostly because two of the main characters are transfer students from England. It's surprisingly well-done Engrish, though. Worth watching if you're into comedic, cutesy stuff. -
I haven't posted in this thread in a long, LONG time, but I figured, "why not?" Last month, I went to Atlanta Pride for the first time, and holy hell was it fun. I'm pretty sure my friend and I were the only outwardly open asexuals that I saw at the entire event, but we basically stayed around the loop of shops and the street that the parade was on, so I definitely didn't see everyone. I scored a bunch of cool free stuff, gave a Mini Cooper picnic blanket to this super-sweet lady and her partner (who wanted the blanket even more than she did!), and caught almost all of the parade. Longest parade I've ever seen in my life, but it was worth it. Not even gonna lie, watching the PFLAG group pass by with their posters and signs and whatnot made me tear up a little bit. Funnily enough, my favorite moment of the entire day was when the guy running one of the more bear-oriented shops told me that I'm a "cute cub." It helped validate my extra baggage, that's for sure. (By the way, if you were also at Atlanta Pride on Sunday and saw a slightly larger gentleman sporting a purple afro and a purple shirt that read "Don't Sweat My Life", that was me!) I can't wait for next year's Pride!

Bringing this back from the dead, y'all! This poor thread hasn't had any love for over a year now. I tend to gravitate towards the more comedic/slice-of-life shows, with some action and drama thrown into the mix. Unfortunately, this means I watch a lot of "high school girl" shows, which can make for a pretty weird first impression of me to the non-anime watcher/manga reader. Kinda sucks, but they make me laugh, so I'm gonna keep watching and reading them. Series I've watched/am watching: Keroro Gunso Nichijou (an underrated masterpiece) Elfen Lied FLCL Ouran High School Host Club Yuru Yuri Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou Kill la Kill (my favorite series from this past year so far) Gin no Saji Azumanga Daioh K-ON! K-ON!! Season 2 Hidamari Sketch Hidamari Sketch x 365 Hidamari Sketch x Hoshimittsu Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb Maho Shoujo Madoka Magica Shinryaku! Ika Musume Aku no Hana (another underrated masterpiece) Soul Eater Manga I've read/am reading: Azumanga Daioh Keroro Gunso K-ON! K-ON! College K-ON! High School Yotsuba&! Hidamari Sketch Fruits Basket I'm also planning on reading the manga adaptation of Kill la Kill if and when it gets translated, and I'll probably start reading Nichijou once I'm more comfortable with reading in Japanese. God, this post makes me sound ridiculous. I'm not nearly this otaku offline, I swear. -
It's been about a month since the show, but I saw Kishi Bashi, Fancy Colors and Tin Cup Prophette a few weeks ago. Best show I've ever been to. Kishi Bashi is a musical genius, and he and his band know how to put on a damn good show. There was dancing, there was shredding on a violin, there was clapping and singing along, and towards the end, he was able to get a room full of nearly 600 people to be completely silent for two of his most intimate songs. It was incredible. If he's ever playing in your area, I highly recommend going to see him.

Now that the Daft Punk hype is dying down, we can all start hyping the new Boards of Canada album, Tomorrow's Harvest. It's their first album in almost eight years, so a lot of IDM fans are going crazy about it, including myself. They just released the first single, Reach for the Dead, either earlier today or yesterday, and it's really good. Listen to it on Warp Records' Soundcloud page!

Boards of Canada - Reach for the Dead Their new album is out in June, and this is the first official single! I'm super-psyched for it.

A baby with terrifying album artwork. Good God. In other news, Record Store Day is coming up! I don't even know if anyone here is into RSD, but I'm excited, especially because CHVRCHES' debut EP is receiving a proper vinyl pressing for the event! If you've not heard of them, they're sort of a more straight-forward, Scottish Purity Ring with an extra member.

Here's a summer jam to start your spring with: The Fritz, by Cruiser! His EP is free on his bandcamp page, and it's the perfect thing to listen to during summer, or even if you just want to feel like it's summer.

Seeing that really makes me wish I had a set worth playing. I started playing drums in 10th grade, and my first set was a crappy Pulse starter set with a Gibralter Avenger II double bass pedal. Now that I'm in my third year of college, playing drums is a lot more difficult (not enough room in my house for a set, making neighbors angry, etc.), but I really do want to get a new set. I was looking at electronic sets around Christmas this past year, but they're all either too crappy or too expensive, so I'll probably just have to wait until I'm out of college. A friend recently asked me to play for his band, though, and they have access to what I think is a Tama Silverstar 4-piece, and believe you me, it felt so good to be back on a set for the first time in about two years. I feel like I've lost a lot of my skill (I used to play for a metalcore band), but with practice, I can probably gain most of it back.

There wasn't really an option for me on the poll, because I fall under gray-asexual. As in, I experience zero to little sexual attraction and basically no sex drive. It seems strange to most people, but I just don't see people in terms of how sexually attractive they are. It took me a while to figure it all out, though. After having no real interest in women (thought I was gay for a while), but then realizing I don't really take interest in men either, I was very confused. Then I met a friend this past year who identifies as asexual, and she told me about gray-asexuality, which I had never heard of at the time, and it made a lot of sense to me.

Haha, you just have to know when to go to avoid the hipster crowd. They tend to go for the vintage shops and used sections, though, and I usually buy newer albums. Also, School Kids closed last year. Sucks, too, because they were my favorite shop downtown. That's not to say I don't like Wuxtry, though (I LOVE Wuxtry), but School Kids always seemed to have slightly better prices. The shop next to the 40 Watt is still here, though. (Also also, I'll definitely make sure to stop by Grimey's if and when I visit Nashville. It looks awesome. I could probably spend an hour or two in there, easily.)

Didn't feel like starting a new thread, so I'm bringing this back (and I mean WAAAAAAY back) from the dead. I started collecting records in October 2011, and in the last year and three months, I've managed to acquire almost 150 records, including 7" and 10" records. It's an expensive hobby (each new record typically costs between $12 and $30, and I also just spent $500 on a new turntable/receiver/speakers), but it's a lot of fun! Anyone else?

The "Say Something Random" Thread

I recently downloaded RCT2 from Amazon, and it's been nothing but a reminder of how horrible I've gotten at it. Not having it for almost three years will do that to you, no? -
"Intense" vs "Aggressive" Rides

This guy has it figured out. Though the retracking they did on the first bit of GA Cyclone helped a lot. (Also, we're home park bros.) -

17/20, mostly because of Olympia Looping. Damn those colors. -
^ Radiating jealousy. Filled up for $3.19/gallon on Monday. Can I just say that QuikTrip is easily the best gas station chain out there? I've never had a bad QT experience.

Shameless re-post, mostly because my blog has changed quite a bit since I first posted in this thread. It's a blog about vinyl records, architecture, a bunch of Japanese stuff, dogs, stuff I think is funny, and some drawings and graphics made by yours truly. (They're not very good.) This is my blog.

>Depeche Mode >indie band from the 90's In all seriousness, though, I do like Depeche Mode, especially their pre-"Violator" songs. They're so much fun to listen to!

I just listened to Tame Impala's new album "Lonerism" all the way through today, and it's, without a doubt in my mind, my favorite release of 2012. If you've never heard of the band, they refer to themselves as "a steady flowing psychedelic groove rock band that emphasizes dream-like melody." Definitely worth checking out, if you're into that kind of stuff.
