Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

I just got back from the park and I saw construction going on behind the Anaconda. There were cranes working. You could see it from the Drop Tower, Crypt, and Americana. I don't know if this was reported already... -

I went yesterday (Friday) for a school field trip and they weren't too busy at all. The longest line I waited in was probably for Griffon (both times). 10-20 minutes both times I rode it. -

Yes! I, for one, love the Shockwave! If anyrides at KD are to be removed it should be Anaconda or Hurler! Now THOSE are back-breaking rides. Anyway, nice TR! I can't wait to go soon and ride El Dorado and Americana! -

First off, I love all of the park except for Moonraker. This thing has got to go. It is WAAYY too unrealistic! Just look at it! On a positive note, the new coaster looks great! I agree with Pufferfish on naming it "Jaws". Maybe make the train gray and red, though? -

I think you need to watch your spelling. Misspelling "ready"... there really isn't any excuse for this. And I'm see this happening a lot with our high school kids. Are you guys not paying attention in school and texting your friends instead? By your age, I learned the meaning (and spelling of) "serendipity". I'd hate to see some of the younger kids try to tackle this! Not trying to be mean, but a lot of kids need to start running their text through some type of spelling checker before posting. It's getting really bad. Terry Maybe he meant to misspell it? Could the coaster be all red? Just saying... -

2009 Season Hype...
Kingbooba replied to jason10's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Eh, King's Dominion got Dominator for 08, but we still get flats for 09! BGE gets a small coaster and a new area! Hopefully next summer I can go back to Carowinds and ride Top Gun (or whatever it is called now), Carolina Cobra, and Vortex! -
OK, so this was my second time going this year, and I must say, it was worse the second time around, but I think it was because of the crowds. By the time we left around 8:45, the parking lot was almost completely full. They were so busy we only did 2 mazes and 1 ride. People: Me, my cousin, my parents We arrived at around 6:45. Once in we had to choose what to do first of course. We'd done Maze of Madness, Toxic Plague, and Club Blood on our first visit. Blackbeard's Revenge and Blue Ridge Bloodbath didn't open for another 20-30 minutes. Nonetheless, we headed to Old Virginia. The line for Blue Ridge Bloodbath (it still wasn't open of course) was down to the water squirting game (Grizzly Falls?). We decided to do Blackbeard's Revenge first. They were using White Water Canyon's regular que line for part of the maze and line. Most of the line, however, was the Log Flume's switchback. They were using the entire line and it was filling up fast. We jumped in line and began our wait. BLACKBEARD'S REVENGE: We waited about an hour for this. I must admit, this is my second-favorite maze I've done so far this year. My parents didn't care for it much, but my cousin and I thought it was great! The scares were ok in this one, but we got unlucky as a young boy was in front of us and the scareactors were going for him. They did get us a couple times though. I loved the guy being hung, kicking like crazy. During one part, a girl was sitting on a fence holding a bottle, and she was like "Want some rum? It's good for everyone." After we were all past her, she dropped the bottle and another scareactor standing a crate said "What, are you trying to kill the people?" Anyway, I saw Blackbeard at the end, he got in my cousin's face. Overall, I give Blackbeard's Revenge an 8/10. After this, we moved on through The Harvest (Old Virginia). I saw very few scareactors. We planned on doing Blood Shed, but the line was down the the KD Theater, so we moved on. We decided to walk through the tunnel across from Blood Shed. There was a strobe light blinking in here, and it felt like you were stepping in time. Wierd. Afterwards, we went through the Carnevil scare zone. This had been my favorite scare zone on our first visit, with the sliders and clowns and all. This time around, it wasn't as good, but I'm sure it was the crowds. Next up was Big Top Terror. BIG TOP TERROR: *sigh* This was one of the worst mazes I've ever been in. Awful. We got in line and they had this huge Jack-in-the-Box that went off every couple of minutes, and when it did, rock music played. What the...? Anyway, we got out three dollars (my mom was sitting out of this one). We asked the guy at the start of the line where to get 3D glasses and he said down the line. So as we waited and moved down there, nobody was there. So we moved up to the front of the line after waiting, and saw the guy again. My father got really pissed off, but we bought our glasses and went in. We kept having to stop inside the maze because we couldn't get the glasses to stay on our faces. Anyway, the 3D paintings were cool, I gotta admit, but the scareactors sucked in here. People were screaming like crazy, but I only got scared maybe one time, and it was more of a startle. It ended rather abruptly too. Ah well... I give Big Top Terror a 2/10 for effort. We moved through Carnevil and headed to VooDoo Swamp. At this point it began to drizzle. We headed through VooDoo Swamp, which, I must say, has sucked both times this year. Last year it was amazing, I was getting scared left and right. And crowds are NOT the reason this has sucked this year. Anyway, my parents got out of the zone and sat down, and my cousin and I walked through the Swamp a couple times. Afterwards, we headed to Dominator, and my cousin and I got in line, but it was full and spilling way out, and we didn't want to wait. So instead, he and I rode Berserker. Fun as always. Finally, we left as it was drizzling and my parents were tired. We hope to go for a third and final time next weekend and do Alien Outpost, Blue Ridge Bloodbath, and Blood Shed. Here are my maze rankings from both visits: 1. Toxic Plague 2. Blackbeard's Revenge 3. Maze of Madness 4. Club Blood 5. Big Top Terror

Well, I officially love Halloween Haunts. KD's is awesome!! I went for the second time tonight, but they were packed so I only went through Blackbeard's Revenge and Big Top Terror. 2 weeks ago I went through Maze of Madness, Toxic Plague, and Club Blood. My ranking for KD's mazes I've done: 1. Toxic Plague 2. Blackbeard's Revenge 3. Maze of Madness 4. Club Blood 5. Big Top Terror I HOPE to return for a third time next weekend to hit off Blood Shed, Blue Ridge Bloodbath, and Alien Outpost, and do some re-runs. -

Yea, 2 weeks ago was actually our 1st week of operation... we actually gotten a lot better... We have been doing very well in the past 2 weekends. We've been actually voted the top 3 in intense by guest so I believe if u come back it will be a lot better sorry you didnt have a good time when u went through. Thanks; Toxic Plague would've gotten my vote for best maze. I'm hoping we'll do all the mazes this time, Blood Shed, Bule Ridge Bloodbath, and Alien Oupost's lines were way too long. -

Cool! I went through Club Blood a couple weeks ago, but I didn't really care for it. We got confused at the end; there was a door labeled exit that appeared to be an emergency exit, but there was also a curtain, which we went through. The girl yelled us and directed us the right way. Plus it wasn't very scary, though Maze of Madness and Toxic Plague were scary when I went through them. I'm hoping to go back this Friday or Saturday with my whole family and do all the mazes. -

I think the 1972 is the copyright date... after all, the sign is next to it. Like the King's Island name. KI opened in 1972. -

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
Kingbooba replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
KD is my home park, and I can honestly say that they need to replace the asphalt with paths like in the entrance plaza. The asphalt is very ugly, and it just needs to change. I also think The Crypt needs a makeover. The program is old now (same since it opened in 2005) and it breaks down a lot more often now than it used to- and it used to break down a lot. -
OK, so last night, my parents, my cousin, and I went to KD for Halloween Haunt. They were pretty busy. NOTE: This may contain spoilers. We arrived at 6:00. After we got into the park, we headed straight for Maze of Madness. The line wwas full and backing out towards the fountains. We got in line of course. One cool effect on the outside of the maze is an electrocution chair. It would go off every few minutes. I'll admit, my mom and I got startled by it numerous times. Anyway, we waited about an hour. MoM was ok. The strobe lights caused my dad to get seperated from us. The mirror maze was rather annoying. But at the end, this girl holding a club scared me and chased me down to where you first go in the maze. Overall, I give Maze of Madness an 8/10. We then went through The Harvest scare zone. I seriously saw only one or two scareactors in here. We stopped at Wayside Grill. They closed while we were waiting. So, we continued through The Harvest, seeing the Blue Ridge Bloodbath's line was out to that water spraying game and Blood Shed's line was out to the KD Theater. Finally, we stopped at a stall near Blood Shed and got an icee and Diet Coke. We moved on to Toxic Plague. We sat down to finish our drinks and a scareactor sat down next to us and we talked to him. He said he worked in Toxic Plague and was going to make sure he got me. We finally finished and got in line for Toxic Plague. We waited about 10 minutes for this. One cool thing I noticed in line was a truck dumping what looked like goo, but I'm not sure what they used, as it was very thick looking. Anyway, Toxic Plague was by far my favorite and the scariest maze we did. The bug effect on the floor where it felt like they were crawling was cool, and the feeling of bugs falling on your shoulders, and the giant animatronic overhead. There were an awful lot of scareactors on the floor. I give Toxic Plague 10/10. We headed to Club Blood right after this. We waited probably about 20 minutes for it. We saw numerous scareactors walking down the exit path, scaring people in line. We were the leaders of the group here. This was... an interesting maze. Certainly not for young kids. There are tons of dancers that are barely wearing any clothes. About halfway through, we had to go to another mirror maze. At the end, we saw a door with exit sprawled on it in "blood", and an animatronic head. However, there was a door leading to another section with a queen vampire sitting in a chair. She was pointing in the other direction. We were going to continue through, and she finally said "Wrong way.", but wasn't directing us. Finally, she got up and got really pissed off yelling "WRONG WAY!!" and turned us around through the exit door, leading us out. One notable thing in the maze was full body bags hanging from the ceiling. One scareactor was hiding behind one and jumped out, scaring my cousin. Anyway, I give Club Blood a 6/10. It just wasn't scary, and the end was stupid. We went to Ricochet next. Only my cousin and I did this. We waited about 10 minutes for it. When we were on the ride, these guys behind us were ACE members, so we talked to them during the ride, as I am an ACE member. Next was Carnevil. Oh my god. This was the best scare zone EVER!! The clowns would get up in your face and copy you and dance with you. HILARIOUS!! We went to some food place by the Carousel, waiting forever to get some drinks. We finished Carnevil, skipping Big Top Terror, as we just didn't feel like going through it. My cousin and I rode the Dodgems. We then headed to VooDoo Swamp. This wasn't as good as last year. There weren't many scareactors though. We got through it quickly and my cousin and I rode The Crypt. I swear we were stuck upside down at the end for a few seconds. My mom had to use the bathroom while we were on The Crypt, but wouldn't go by herself. So we all went together. After that, we headed to Alien Outpost, but the line was half-full, and it sucked last year, so we skipped it. My cousin and I decided to ride Avalanche, which was a walk-on. After this, we headed to Dominator, which was closed. A train was empty on the lift. Berserker was also closed, so we just headed out. Overall, it was a fun night, and my dad and I are going to the ACE event next week. My whole family is hoping to go at some point. Haunts: 1. Carnevil (Scare Zone) 2. Toxic Plague (Maze) 3. Maze of Madness (Maze) 4. The Harvest (Scare Zone) 5. Club Blood (Maze) 6. VooDoo Swamp (Scare Zone)
