  1. Kasey and I live in the house IKEA built. When we bought the place five years ago, we had little or no furniture. We found IKEA in Seattle and would drive up two or three times a year, each time filling our van to the brim. Now that IKEA has opened in Porltand! We've gone 8 times, we are starting to work on our kitchen next. A word of advise, always check out the as is section, great bargins are to be had there! Me at the grand opening of Ikea Portland... Big guy, orange shirt! can't miss him!
  2. Being a huge water ride fan, I ride them all, hands down Bluto's top out at number one. Here's an onride I found on youtube: The theme, the pacing and the surprise ending just add up to one hella good ride. Kali rivere pissed me off, not because of the wetness, I don't mind that, but becasue of the stupid eco-message. My gosh enough already, and the ride was over before it started.
  3. I had to play a costumed character ONCE, some kid ripped off my tail, I tprn off the head and screamed at the kid to give back the tail. I hope he's still in therapy. Poor Pluto, the woman didn't puch him over, he fell off the curb.
  4. In no order: Cabaret Evita, Broadway not Madonna Lion King Big River, deaf west version, amazing, amazing! Cirque Du Solie anything Aida Five Guys named Moe there are tons of shows I love, what with my wife a drama director and I a make up artist, and both of us involved in theater at our schools. We love our shows!
  5. I work at the Oregon SChool for the Deaf. I am the founder of the schools haunted house, the nightmare factory, we've been in business now for 19 years. the haunt is one of only two haunted houses I know of at schools for the deaf. Did I mention the haunt covers 11,500 square feet? And up until this year I was the GM at Thrill-Ville USA, was there for 14 years! Resigned my position this season and had a real vacation. If you are ever in Oregon in the last part of the month drop in and see the haunt, I think you'd be surprised. Ed www.nightmarefactorysalem.com
  6. Do you have a web site? Ed Roberts Founder Nightmare Factory Orogon School for the Deaf www.nightmarefactorysalem.com
  7. I am in need of a hosting company and a company that has easy to use site design software. A friend suggested 1and1, the price seems good for what I need. Has anyone here used them and what are your thought. Is there something better out there? I have to get a site up and running soon as I can for the Nightmare Factory... Any help is welcome.
  8. I have been collecting pin back buttons for 37 years, I have well over 40,000 in my collection. 700 is a number found in the bible... I have been known as the buttonman for many years. Sometime soon I'll have a web site up showing off the collection.
  9. It's Robb's update, he!! it's Robb's site! He should be able to post what ever he wants without being bitched at! I for one enjoy the updates, just wish we were there...
  10. I got a free 'stress ball' in the shape of a chair, two water bottles, two key chains with tape measures in them, Ikea seeds for the garden, two electric Ikea fans, Ikea sport clap noise maker thingys, free keys made, free doughnuts and drinks whilst in line, frisbees, t-shirts, hats (didn't get one), paper fans, and more. Went up today, MY GOD, it was packed!!!
  11. I'm not sure what you mean?
  12. Like a true IKEA fanboy I showed up at 5:30 in the morning! Why? Well why not? Kasey and I love the IKEA line, and well if the store was closer, I might even apply for seasonal work. The news had been reporting for weeks that the traffic would be awful and the crowds in the tens of thousands. I drove up and got a space right up front. ( the crowds never did materialize, Kasey got a space even closer than mine hours later.) As I said before I arrived at 5:30, poor Kasey had to teach at drama camp so I went on with out her, she and a good friend of ours would meet up with me later on. As the morning wore on, and the few hundred or so peeps that camped out for a free Pong chair, gathered up their gear and the line moved toward the front of the store. There were news reporters from all over, helicopters flying over head, and a great line up of entertainment to kep us busy during our four hour wait. I'd never been to a grand opening of anything before and this was, to say the least, fun. Workers tossed out tons of free crap at the crowd. Most of which was of no interest to me, however... There was one thing about the morning that made the day just a little more enjoyable. My wife and I have this strange ability to attract the odd balls in any crowd and today was no exception to the rule. I had no sooner arrived, and Viola! There she was, I never got her name, but from the moment she arrived to the moment I set foot in the store, A mind numbing four hours, she never stoped talking. My wife called, she talked at me. A reporter from a local paper made arrangements to meet me at IKEA to interview me, she tried to answer all the questions the reporter asked me!, when IKEA workers tossed tings to the crowed she ran off to retrieve goodies, handing me her backpack whilst she ran off. I kept on telling her I didn't really want any thing, but she wouldn't stop! You get the picture, The store opened at 9:00 we shuffled off to get our free gift cards (free frozen yogurt for me), and I made a break for it... I told her I needed to go meet up with the reporter, and bolted off. (as best I can, it's rather hard to bolt when you're 6"5" and weigh in at 380! I gave it a good effort!) I had a great time, despite her, and now she makes for great conversation. If you ever meet up with me, ask about her, we nick named her 'babbling Betty! Kasey and Teresa showed we shopped some, got a few new things for the house. Having an IKEA this close could be a bad thing. We're heading up on Sunday for lunch, and to check out as-is. Of you're on town and need an IKEA guide drop a line! I'm the one wearing the orange and white striped shirt... she's standing to my left. wearing glasses!

  16. Holly *&^^!!! No brakes!??! Looks insane, insane I say. We're going to Salt Lake on a road trip later this summer, might have to stop in for a look see.
  17. true... I spent years hiring and training ride operators for the park I managed, I don't want to scare you off form riding, just look at the ride and the people running it. I spent the weekend at Seattle center, didn't ride a thing. the rides looked okay, but the ops people were not on game. the guy running the Booster forgot to fasten the seat belts on one of the seats! Thank goodness the ride wont start until they are fastened! One last thing, Most accedents are caused by riders, not ops.
  18. having run a skycoaster, a ride similar to this, I can tell you that from what I see on this video, there are so many things that could go wrong with this version of the ride. For one there are way too many points of potenial failure on the cables leading up to the launch tower. Why is this needed? Why are there cables hooked together like this? (look at the cables just above the harness and flight suits!) The only reason I can come up with is that these are here to allow the ride to be set up any place and adjust for the height of the landing site. I am sorry this happened and hope that the rides owner made sure they were inspecting daily and kept training logs for everyone that runs the ride. To answer the question are Ripcords safe. Only as safe as the person running it. Skyfun1 made a great ride, and has a great safety record, but you are only as safe as the person running the ride. Does anyone know who makes this ride?
  19. We went to a 12:10am showing last night, or should I say this morning! Loved it, in our opinion the best of the HP movies so far. this director nailed it The soundtrack was amazing. I love John Williams, but he starts to sound the same to me. Good times were had by all.
  20. This has to be the best park of the trip? These rides look some of the contraptions they used to have at Pacific Ocean Park in the 60's! Are there up stops of any kind on that coaster? Thanks for the updates my friend. Really enjoying these. Ed
  21. Well I found amtrak service to Newhall, not too far from SFMM, round trip for $80.00. granted it will take you about 6 hours to get there.
  22. 47 just last week. First coaster was at Pacific Ocean Park, my uncle worked there, from what I remember I screamed my head off. (it was a kiddie coaster too)

  25. After 14 years at Thrill-Ville USA I resigned my postition at the park. I lived out my dream job, and up until last year I really enjoyed it. I started my career at the park running the former Jet Star from SCBB, did that for two seasons, then I got a call form one of the parks owners offering me my dream job. Manager of an amusement park. Now granted Thrill-Ville USA is no Disney or Cedar Point, but it has never pretended to be anything more than a nice little park in the woods. It was great fun watching the park go from a gravel lot, with only a hand full of rides, to a very nice little park that has so much potenial. For those of you that took the time to stop in and say hello, and took ride with me on the Ripper (jet start), thanks I loved visiting with you, it's so nice to meet people with the same passion for old rides and amusement parks that I have. Thrill-Ville USA will be open in a few weeks for their annual pre-season pass sale, and will go on for several years more I am sure. I am looking forward to having most of my summers off, and to teach drama camps and make up classes, and most importantly, I am starting to work on my BA at Linfield Collage! it only took me 30 yars to get off my a&& and do this. Keep on riding, and look for us in the park riding for a change!
