  1. What an idiot! That's all I can say, what an idiot. He's damn lucky he's not dead. An email has been sent to the PNE about this dip sh.T.
  2. Great thread! My haunt is the Nightmare Factory. http//:www.nightmarefactorysalem.com Here's a little history of the haunt - The Nightmare Factory was founded in 1987 by dorm counselor Ed Roberts as a fund raiser for the schools residential programs. Ed went to then director, GI Wilson and asked for a small loan to get the event up and running. $400.00 was given, and after much blood, sweat and elbow grease, the Nightmare Factory opened its doors for a four night run. That first year the haunt earned $4000.00 and was an immediate success. A success both with the general public and with the students at OSD. The following year the Nightmare Factory relocated in the unfinished basement of the boy’s dormitory, this provided more room, the previous year the haunt was actually held in an unused wing of the same dorm, and a new permanent home for the event. The original goal of the Nightmare Factory was not only to establish a fund raiser that would help provide for student needs and activities within the residential program, but to help give students a ‘can do’ attitude. Along with this also comes the philosophy of running a successful business. Students learn everything from how to move traffic through an event, to how to design and construct sets for the haunt, lighting design, sound effects, advertising, acting, make up and so much more. Over the years the Nightmare Factory has only closed one year for a full remodel of the haunt. Even though they hadn’t advertised that year people still came hoping they might be open! One of the reasons the Nightmare Factory has thrived in this very tough industry is its belief that they must constantly re-invent themselves, and give their guests new show elements every year, while keeping the best from the previous years. They want people to come away from the haunt saying how much fun they had, not thinking that it was a haunt held at a school. They always say, “We are not your typical school run haunted house”. They also try very hard not to borrow from films or TV that, in their opinion, is the easy way out! The Nightmare Factory is also proud to note that they are only one of two schools for the Deaf that hold annual haunted houses, the other being St. Rita’s in Cincinnati Ohio. Though the Haunt was founded by Ed, he’d be the first to tell you that without the haunts director, Kivo (KC) Phillips (OSD alumni now counselor and involved with the haunt since day one), the support of everyone and the hundreds of volunteers over the years, there would be no Nightmare Factory, it is truly a community event. Come see why we’ve been around for 20 years! Here's where the money goes - Over the past 20 years the funds raised by the Nightmare Factory have gone towards: New playgrounds for the school and elementary dorm New Kitchens in the girls and boys dormitories Art supplies for the high school department New computers for the school New books for the school library School wetland restoration program Furniture for the school’s residential halls Clothing for needy students $1,000.00 was sent to both the Louisiana and Mississippi schools for the deaf after hurricane Katrina. Students sent to Space Camp Students sent to academic competitions Students sent to HauntCon in Houston Texas Student trips to Portland area theater events Toys Theater Company from St. Petersburg Russia brought to OSD. Students attend Cirque Du Soilel performance in Portland Sponsors the dormitory after school programs Sponsored the BEAT after school theater program and performances Renovation to the schools student union Purchased books for the residential halls Purchased accelerated reading program books and tests Purchased equipment for the middle school science classroom Sponsored social events at the western states basketball classic in 2008 held at OSD Purchased entertainment systems for the residential halls Purchased new washers and dryers for the residential halls I am proud of what our kids and staff have done here. We've out lasted many other haunts, and have been at it now for 20 years. If you're ever up this way look me up, we'd like to show you our 12,000 foot haunt. Ed Roberts Founder The Nightmare Factory Salem Oregon This is our 20th year in operation!
  3. ^ thank you for posting these. I took a student group to Houston in April and Kemah was one of our half day trips, The kids will be interested in seeing these. Looks bad.
  4. First off all, our thoughts a prayers to all that live in this part of Texas. We have good friends in Spring Texas, they will be without power for two weeks at least. I am glad I go to see the Kemah Boardwalk last April. This is very sad. My hope are they will rebuild, and carry on.
  5. We took a long visit to the Forbidden City...I have two things that remind me of this place. 1. Wonders of China film at Epcot, and 2. The "Just Say Mao" sampler CD from the 1980s. (Anyone else know what I'm talkin about?) Rob, I know of what you speak... I still have a copy of 'Just say Mao' in my collection of CD's. Don't listen to it much, but I still have it.
  6. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the Octopus is an Eyerly ride. the ride controls are exactly like the octopus we had at Thrill-Ville USA. Thanks for the great TR, nice to see a small park like this so nicely run and the rides look to be a nice mix of new and old.
  7. $4.03 just down the street in Salem Oregon. Prices have dropped big time here, just two weeks ago it was $4.35.
  8. Oddly enough, Thrill-Ville USA was there in some configuration or another for 25 plus years, maybe more, heck I worked there for 16 years. And while I do not disagree it looked to many as though it was a roadside carnival. Many of the ride can be found at the a carnival, when I was there we did a lot to make it more than just a trap... Love, care, customer care, good eats, things that are not found in many of your big theme parks. True Enchanted Forest is special, no denying that the Toftee family has put tons of creativity into this real hidden gem. We love taking the kids there when we have the time. Ed
  9. http://www.katu.com/news/25693634.html I love people like this, really, it makes life so much easier!
  10. Thank you for being kind to my old stomping ground. I just kills me to see Thrill-Ville looking like this. What really worries me is that is someone doesn't pick up the Ripper soon it's going to go to the scrap yard! I haven't had the time or the heart to go out, silly, but I just can't bring myself to go out. I am glad I had the chance to run the park for as long as I did, I had some good times there, got to go to IAAPA many times, meet a lot of great people whilst working there. Ed Roberts Former GM Thrill-Ville USA www.nightmarefactorysalem.com
  11. Some of those lovely vac-u-packed meats seem to be of the 'on-a-stick' variety! I just love stuff like this. Great TR really!
  12. Is it me or does the concept drawing look like a fifth grader drew it, NO a pre-schooler. It's crap, in my opinion, how did they sell a park using this drawing? I am baffled.
  13. You all know Thrill-Ville USA closed this year for good. Well just ran into one of the mechanics from the park and he informed me the owners are this close to scrapping the rides, Ripper included! People I hope this doesn't happen, some little park out there must need a solid ride for their line up. The ride is going for 102K, might be able to get that down I don't know for sure. this is really crushing me! Ed
  14. Great pictures, beautiful park. What city is this?
  15. NAh the Jet star is going for 102K Still a good price.
  16. Well here's the offical listing at ride4u.com http://www.rides4u.com/index.php/rides/results/cat/39/order_by/ride_name/sort/asc/off/
  17. These prices are more than likely on the money, I have not been in direct contact with the owners about the sale of these rides, I left the park two season ago. I got my info second hand. This closure came as a surprise to me, I was out at the park in late Feb. early March and everything seemed to be going along as normal. I am a bit puzzled about the claim that they sold a Scrambler, Round Up, Bumper Cars, and other children rides, as far as I can recall, these rides were never on site, I can tell you they never ran them in the park. A small electric bumper car set ran for one season. FLy-O-Planes and tubs-o-Fun were sold to a traveling show.
  18. Well I heard last night you can pick the Ripper up for around 45K! All the rides for around 275K! RCDB has soe nice pictures - http://www.rcdb.com/ig340.htm?picture=2 http://www.rcdb.com/ig340.htm?picture=4
  19. ^ the rides are for sale, from what I have been told. Now if this means all the rides, I don't know, I have little contact with the park any more. I have heard, the Ripper is for sale, the slide might go to a state fair somewhere (she's a beauty!), as for the rest: Little ripper, tilt-a-whirl, rock-o-plane, sidewinder, paratrooper, bumper boats, go karts, Turbo force, skycoaster, train ride, bulgy the whale, kiddie cars, froghopper(gone), kiddie helicopters, carousel. I have no idea, many are old, many are rare, all need a good home. I'd like to see the train go to the Salem waterfront park. The bumper boats and go karts will more than likely get pick up by an FEC someplace. I 'lived' here for 14 years of my life and to say I am sad is an understatement. Sorry....
  20. I managed this small family owned park for 14 years, last year I resigned my post the the park and moved on the other things. The owners have called it quits, now I knew this some time ago, but they made it known to the public today. http://www.thirllvilleusa.homestead.com Not sure what they are asking for the Jet Star, aka the Ripper, but I know it wont be much. I' love to see a small park pick this great old ride up, the owners of thrill-ville did a good job keeping it up. Sorry if you never got to come by when I was there, I really loved my job, and the park, It was, for the most part, a real joy to be there.
  21. wow, we got lucky! I took a group to Houston in late April, we ventured to Kemah for a bit of coaster riding. Found it to be unfriendly to bigger folk, but the group I was with loved the ride. what a great layout, They all loved the first drop and the runout that follows! Rode several other rides and the Beast boat! In all we had a nice time at the boardwalk. Here's hoping they expand the ride choices over time. (adding a chaos, how about a flume, man it's muggy out there!)
  22. http://www.diggerland.com/index.htm Sound like a park we'd all like to know more about, no? Anyone from TPR been here? Next time TPR goes to the uk you might consider this place for a drop in.
