  1. You're too far north unforunately. We had 7 inches here in Dayton too, but it really never got any further than Columbus. My kids were out of school for the past three days because of the speed the snow hit with, and the temps. being -15 to -20. Plus, another small bit of the total $10 mill. given to KI for this season will apparently be for an ice skating show. When I took my son to his hockey practice last night there was a flyer up for figure skating auditions for King's Island on Feb. 22. It'll hopefully be a plus that the head of maintenance at KI was at Carowinds at the same time BORG was installed. So a bit of experience will be present at KI's installation, (got this from In The Loop daily on 2/6 I believe, they Maureen Kaiser on the show).
  2. From some conversations I was having months back I'm totally convinced GL is not concerned with the attendance. Comments that were made in the past seem to point to GL being a nice regional park that will play off CP's close proximity outside of the local attendees. They seem to be content with the idea of having 1,000,000 maybe a little over that. SF believed that if you'd build it people would automatically just show up, despite how crappy everything might be. Installing 5 coasters in two seasons, (Batman, Villain, Serial Thriller, Roadrunner Express, and then adding X-Flight the following season) because of this attitude was a big mistake. True it did bolster the attendance for a while, but for the long run...nada! CP is just stepping in and fixing the mistakes SF made, no matter how controversial they may seem. Though I wish they could've kept the animals too, it just wasn't a safe move for a company that admits, (as posted above) they have very little experience with that area. Me personally, I see so much improvement everytime I go to the park. The rides are more reliable than ever, the employees are more caring, food stands are open and well stocked/staffed, pathways are incredibly clean from what I experienced in the past. GL is on the right path, and though they'll never be a cash cow for CF...I really don't believe that's their intention.
  3. Me either Alpengeist! The one in Orlando was just awesome. Incredible theming that I didn't expect in a ride at SW. Theirs is a mix between, a dark ride/water ride/roller coaster. From what I remember of it was quite lengthy at about 5-6 minutes. These other versions carrying the JTA name are simply water rides with next to no creativity. Great on a hot, hot day, but otherwise...
  4. 1) Balder's smoothness 2) SOB's height 3) Beast's length 4) Thunderhead's tight turns 5) Voyage's airtime, tunnels, and elements, (esp. that triple-down)
  5. Well, I live about 40 minutes away from KI in Dayton, OH. But I'd rather claim CP or HW even though they're both about three hours away from me.
  6. I joined TPR on 6/14/05, but I had been hanging out here for 3-4 weeks before just getting used to how things worked around here. The way I actually found the TPR website was through Coasterbuzz, (if you know the history about TPR/CB you might find some humor in that). I'd heard of Robb off and on for 2-3 years but didn't know about TPR. Then on Coasterbuzz a big debate began about filming video on coasters without permission, and "some" people have no other defense on this subject than to blame Robb & Elissa for anything pertaining to this subject. Anyway I like to get both sides of the story, so I followed a very short-lived link, and here I am. Honestly, the people defending you, Elissa, and TPR on this subject put up a much better fight. They made sense, they provided proof, and were just a whole lot more entertaining about it. I've been here ever since. As a sidenote, I actually saw Elissa before I ever saw Robb. She was doing some on-ride audio/video for a ride on Montu, (I believe), for a Discovery Channel coaster show. Once I found out Elissa White, was now Elissa Alvey...well...it was even more encouragement to visit TPR. Sorry Robb, she's easier on the eyes!
  7. I like it! Short and sweet, get's the message across. Plus, I'm really liking the new KI logo, (and not just because the "Paramount" portion is gone). Sort of a little mix of the classic logo, and some of the new too.
  8. I can see why GL has gotten of X-Flight and Steel Venom. 1) SF way overbuilt this park when they had control. 10 coasters for a park that rarely eclipsed a 1/3 of CP's attendance. 2) X-Flight was usually quite hard on the maintenance team over the years, (I'd argue that they spent most of their day on that coaster). And over the past couple of seasons Steel Venom started acting up frequently as well. I really believe that X-Flight going to KI will be much better, in that they have more manpower to deal with the maintenance issues. 3) So many people on so many boards have asked why CF is pulling these coasters out, and to me, it's simple. They don't really need them! While it's unknown right now what they'll do with SV, X-Flight will be a great fit for KI as Firehawk. 4) They still have 8 coasters including the kiddie, (which is more of a junior, but nonetheless still fun!). * Big Dipper - A great classic woodie that also holds a small distinction in being the oldest operating wooden coaster in Ohio. * Double Loop - Classic Arrow Looper * Villain - A fun hybrid, getting retracked and ready. * Dominator - IMO, still my second favorite floorless, (behind Kraken). * Ragin' Wolf Bob's - Another great woodie, that's much improved from 3-4 years ago. * Thunderhawk - Vekoma SLC...I actually have fun on this thing! * Head Spin - Only three words...Blunt Force Trauma Not all coasters can be winners! All this, with a great waterpark, IMO. And the announcement of all the improvements, and more attactions to come in the future! I think CF is on the right track with GL. [/i]
  9. OMG I was just about to say that! I'm still waiting for a red woodie from Cedar Fair.... Apparently, someone also likes neon orange at CF too. - Thunderhawk (GL) - Iron Dragon - Silver Bullet, (on parts of it) ...and this is just a short list!
  10. True, it may not be a "one-of-a-kind" for us enthusiasts, but to the general public, this is a brand new type of coaster experience for the majority of them. Plus, how many people of the gen. public even know SFGA or GL exists?? We'll have to wait and see how successful all this is to determine if this is ignorance, better use for a ride, or just good marketing.
  11. I'd guess that another fact about you would be your ability to take physical abuse!
  12. Two good things I can say about Top Gun (PKI) are: 1) The first drop is pretty good, and the second drop into the valley is not bad either. 2) No matter how many times I ride that coaster in the front seats, that last swing into the brake run freaks me out everytime. I always feel like were gonna smack into the supports. Two bad things are... 1) It's too short! 2) Most of the theming is gone, or those parts of the ques are no longer used.
  13. Yeah!!! Someone who actually likes our pizza!!! (Although you can get it cheaper, and better variety, going 10 minutes up the road to the closest LaRosa's restaurant!) Shari "My Illinois-native husband hates my LaRosa's pizza" Shoufler Yeah! We'd talked about this on another board. To many people, including myself, LaRosa's tastes much much better at the park. The LaRosa's restaurants taste totally different...and not as good. For me, the food at Busch Gardens Europe was great, as well as, Chet & Matt's near CP, and Kahunaville @ Kalahari.
  14. Growing up we had all kinds of place to choose from when it came to these family fun centers. We had... - Malibu Grand Prix - Putt-Putt Game Center - Cap'n Bogey's - Slick Track ...their all gone now! Now all we have left is Chuck E. Cheese and Wonderpark, (previously mentioned in Cincinnati). There is one place locally called Magic Castle that's pretty sweet. It's themed around Knights, Wizards, and Dragons. And they offer mini golf, batting cages, water balloon wars, video games, and soft play. We'd like to talk to the owner, (he's loaded), into building an indoor park like the Partheon at Mt. O. Why? Because winters around here suck, and it would be something to do. Have a mouse coaster, disko, some kiddie stuff...we'd be set.
  15. Here I always thought I had a fairly easy job! Your job makes mine seem busy. Here are five more facts for me: 1. I still love Mystery Science Theatre 3000, (though it lost a lot of it's charm when the original cast started leaving). 2. I watch the Wiggles with my kids...and I actually enjoy them myself too. 3. I miss 80's shows that never are seen much anymore 4. In staying with the 80's theme...I never have, and never will find David Hasselhoff sexy! 5. Even though I'm within three hours of Millennium Force, I miss Apollo's Chariot more, and more all the time.
  16. 1. I love Hockey!...and play when I can. 2. I'm a CSI fanatic, (but only the Las Vegas series). 3. I watch pro wrestling, (mainly TNA & Ring Of Honor). 4. I crave Chet & Matt's pizza constantly. 5. My daughter and I collect smashed pennies from virtually every theme park we go to, (we have somewhere 180-200 at last count).
  17. I can claim three of these: - Iron Dragon - Top Gun - Big Bad Wolf ...I chose BBW! The way that ride leaves the station it's amazing the amount of speed it picks up. The theming is nice, and the near misses through the village make for a cool ride. But the 100' drop down to the river just rocks! I wasn't expecting much from it the first time I rode, but I'm a fan now!
  18. I personally wouldn't say I love it, but I like it, it's still fun. But I would have to say I was more partial to it w/out the building. I remember being on boat rides as a kid, and being on the beach at Breakers and thinking how cool that coaster looked on the edge of the beach like that!
  19. I was watching some documentary on VH1 that included the BEP's, and they even tried to make Fergie sound sexy after the now infamous "peeing of her pants on stage" incident.
  20. I can see where your coming from Dave. The last two or three events I've been to have been turning up lots of families. I remember Kelly and I being the only people at our first enthusiast event with a child "at the event". Compared to Holiwood Nights last May when there were familes crawling out of the woodwork. Going to coaster events, having passes, and searching for discounts have made it possible for us to actually visit more parks since the kids have been born though. Plus, most every trip we take is centered around parks anyway.
  21. ^ I was thinking the same thing. I think DT has two things going for it. 1) CP has such huge attendance compared to some parks, that tons of people have rode it more often than most Bobsleds. 2) DT is a sentimental favorite. It's gained such a reputation over the years for it mediocre ride & lame theming...that these negatives have actually become positives, and have made it a superstar among Bobsled coasters.
  22. Here's another vote for that putred excuse for music known as Fergie. A close second would have to be Justin Timberlake, (esp. Sexy Back).
  23. Didn't this same thing happen on an invert at one of the SF parks 3-4 years ago too? I seem to remember an employee who was mentally challenged entered an area around one of the inverted coasters that wasn't locked down. Same type of incident, he was kicked in the head by a girls foot in a passing train. Wasn't there also an employee at Magic Mountain who was struck by a passing train on Scream? Man, why do I remember this stuff?
  24. "Hey! Isn't this the coaster Dan found the random bolt on?" Sitting next to a total stranger: "Sorry...I got a little nervous...I had no idea it was your leg I was squeezing!" Going up the lift hill: Hi, my name is John! Coasters seem to break a lot when I ride them.
  25. Yes...Weinerville was awesome! Also like "Legends Of The Hidden Temple" & later on "The Amanda Show"
