  1. No one didnt say that Six Flags didnt have rules. It doesnt matter if they arent enforced.
  2. Again I say that thye parks in Europe are far more superior than any park here in the US.
  3. Ok straight shot is a figurative statement. You know what I meant. It is extremely easy to find from Hobby barely any turns.
  4. All I can say is that an amusement park job is most of peoples first job experience. Most dont have work ethics and its understandable. That is why an older figure should be paid more an hour to oversee each operation in the park with experience in work period. That person that said if they were hired to just operate rides that is all they would do, is probably young and doesnt realize that you do have a job description but people move up in any industry by going above and beyond that so called job description. When I worked at Six flags 25 years ago I didnt see it either. An undercover supervisor asked me to pick up a piece of paper and I said that he needed to get a grounds person and let them know. I thought that it wasnt my responsibility either and guess what when I got back to my ride I got a call from the operations office telling me to come back immediatly. When I got back there they told me that I was setup to see my reaction and I got a CI which stands for corrective interview. If you got 3 of them then you were terminated. Now I thought that was unfair because I wasnt hired to pick up trash but as I have matured and gotten into the work industry, I see that a corporation expects you to do whatever it takes to make the WHOLE company run. This apparently isnt still a policy at SF because of the attitudes of the employees now. I was at SFGAdventure last year and there was a lost child crying and we told an employee and they just stood there and looked at us as if we were stupid. Now that response deserved a CI. It wasnt his fault that he responded that way, It is the fault of the establishment because that child hasnt been taught. Training consists of way more than checking a lapbar.
  5. The drive from Houston Hobby to the Kemah Boardwalk is a straight shot down 45 south. It will take u approx 30 mins from the parking lot of the car rental to The Boardwalk. It is so easy to get there Stevie Wonder could find it.
  6. I have seen it is person and the drop isnt as tall or brutal as it seems on film. It is a nice coaster but if u have been to Kings Island and have seen SOB you wont be impressed. It will be in Tillmans best interest to keep the tickets at a low price because it will draw a whole lot of new people that will end up spending money in one of his many businesses on the boardwalk. Kinda when u go to a casino and the drinks are free, you actually are paying for them by spending money on gambling.
  7. I totally agree with the article. I have recently bought a considerable amount of Six Flags stock and I totally agree with this guy. I am an ex employee of Six Flags 25 yrs ago and things were run differently. No employee could be caught walking past a piece of paper and not pick it up. If you were seen walkng past paper, no matter what department you were in, you got written up if you didnt pick it up. We had a certain time to load and unload. That is what that turnstile was for to make sure that so many people went through that ride within that hour and we had to call on the hr to give the number off the stile. Security was present as if President Bush himself was in the park. Now that is why my tolerance level is low for most parks because I have worked in one where the rules were strict. I was only making $3.10 an hour and I was a foreman, but work ethics were different then. Our hometraining plus the expectations of the establishment made the park run efficiently. Now the food sucks at all parks that I have visited but who goes to a park for the burgers? People have to realize that business have a tendancy to concentrate on makng money for the shareholders and not satisfying their patrons. I think that Six Flags needs to be turned over to a THEME/THRILL PARK enthusiast because they would know first hand on what should or shouldnt be done. I could run SF efficiently in 2 weeks by just changing the attitudes of the employees and go back to the rules that were in effect when I was an employee. Each ride should have an adult in charge over 25, not a 16yr old who has all of his friends on staff and they just play all day and not hustle. It is just a lot of ideas that would work if they were put inplace. Last year I went to SFOT and there was a 3 train operation on the TEXAS GIANT and the park was empty. The line was rather long and I could see stacking to the utmost. When i got to the loading station I noticed all of the employees were standing around the ride operator playing and people were stuck in their cars and couldnt get out so I hollared "stop playing and do your jobs". After I got off I went and found an operations supervisor and told her that I had driven 4 hrs just to ride the TEXAS GIANT and that I should be able to ride it as many times as I wanted without a wait. I told her the problem is that too many kids on that ride had made friends with each other and that they werent doing their jobs. I told her that Six Flags would have never allowed this when i was working and that she needs to go up their and break that crew apart and put them all on different rides. She thanked me and I went and rode other things. One hr later i walked by and the line was non existant so I got on when i got up their, there was a different ride operator and 4 loaders that were from different backgrounds "if u know what I mean" and they were on point. It appeared that they didnt even know each other. Now i know that it wont be long before the gelled and became friends also but my point was made. Six flags has gone to pot and it can be saved but it still appears that Mr Shapiro is a business man first then a theme park lover last. It should be the other way around and then it will all come together. GET IT TOGETHER MR SHAPIRO BECAUSE I DONT KNOW HOW SIX FLAGS GOT LOST. IT CAN BE SAVED!
  8. I am still lost, I see a lot of men with Fannie Packs on in Parks. I would have never thought about that. The point of it is that it is functional, but I am in my 40's and I never even would think of looking at that and I am very fashionable and listen to hip-hop hahahahahhaha!!!!!!
  9. When I went last year it was the worse park I have ever visited except for Toro and Nitro which are my favorite woodie and steel now. I agree with everything else you said totally. Now the park was nasty and Rolling Thunder crew was the worse than any park I have ever been to.
  10. OH MY GOD! This park is BEAUTIFUL. Why are most of the parks in Europe are heavily themed and most of ours aren't? This park is Disney, Las Vegas, Universal Studios and Magic Mountain all rolled into one. It has the heavily themed areas and big rides all rolled into one park. This place looks like UTOPIA.
  11. Oh maybe I am out of touch but is there something supposed to be wrong with a fanny pack? I didnt know it was supposed to be a fashion statement.
  12. First of all I dont know why people bring backpacks and all that junk with them anyway. If u have a fanny pack what is it that you have to carry that wont fit in it? My fanny pack holds my keys, camera, money, season pass and my sunglasses. That is all that is needed to go to a park. Secondly, the policy does speed up the line. Now if they say you can't bring your fanny pack that is locked around your waist then I dont know what they plan on people doing. If you get a locker where would you put the key? Also, how many dang lockers do these rides have? If there are 1000 people in line, do they have enough lockers to accomodate?
  13. I understand that if u spend too much time looking for single riders it would slow the train down but if u read all of my statement you would have seen that we didnt have computerized trains we had manual ones where we had to do everything and belts to check and there is no eexcuse for stacking if all that is required is running and touching the lapbars or even having to push them down further. The single rider line is a good idea but not really efficient because people are going to start getting in it with their party and not necessarily making it a big issue to ride on the same car or train. The ride ops DO NOT HUSTLE like we did in the 70's. We had 4 times the responsibility and we did it in 30 secs because while the train was leaving the station we went to every row in our section and talked to each pair or guest who was waiting in line to ride and possibly the ones behind them. One thing I do see is that we always had 3 to 4 people loading trains one downstairs at then entrance of the cue and upstairs as u enter the last que house. I went to SFFT earlier this summer and on the coasters there was only one person to load and one to dispatch the train and to load that is a big reason why also but no excuse. Another point we didnt have gates we had chains that we had to open and close at each train departure and arrival. Now u mean to tell me that a simple checking making sure that the lapbars have clicked should take longer than all of the stuff I told you we had to do?
  14. When I was 16 and that was 27 yrs ago I used to work at Six Flags on a coaster and it was policy not to let any train out of the station with not one empty seat. When we finished loading the train we had to go to each row of our section and ask how many and if it was one we had to holler "IS ANYBODY RIDING ALONE". Someone always was, so no train left any station in the park without a full load. Back then coasters only had one seat and it had to be 2 bodies in the seat because you would slide from left to right and the biggest person had to enter the seat first. That policy would still work nowadays. The line moves faster and i see too many trains in parks leaving the station with 2 to 6 empty seats that is a shame, all they have to do is holler "IS ANYONE RIDING ALONE". Also we got in trouble if there were 2 trains in the station and we had seat belts, bars and lap bar belts we had to load in 30 secs and we humped and always got it done. If the operations dept or a supervisor looked up and didnt see a train on the track we got written up. That meant that we were moving too slow and we didnt skimp on safety either.
  15. I really hate GASM but I dont think it should be torn down. I dont think any ride should be torn down, unless it is just breaking peoples necks and cracking ribs. I just love parks that still have their original rides, I see a lot of people on this forum who want certain rides torn down like SOB I just dont ride things I dont like.
  16. Europe parks are way better than ours. I just love the theming
  17. I am glad that it is back open. It wasnt open when i went 5 yrs ago and that was the reason for going. At least I have a chance now. I definitly will be going next yr. That is the most beautiful coaster I have ever seen in my life. That thing is unbelievable. I hope that people here give it a chance.
  18. I dont call most of these out and backs. I call Steel Eel at Sea World an out and back steel as well as Magnum at Cedar Point but no Goliath and Millenium Force.
  19. It is gonna take 3 yrs to complete. I am just glad we will have something because there is no reason to come to houston for vacation unless u want some oil and gas. The only tourist destination we have in Texas is San Antonio. I just dont know how a total dinosaur theme is gonna work. I can see a section in a park but not the whole park. Seems like it would become redudant after a few minutes.
  20. I am so glad I am not the only one who likes rough coasters. I think what has happened is that the younger crowd has gotten used to smooth as silk steel coasters and if it shakes even a little they are complaining. The first time I rode Texas Giant back in the 90's I was so sore from riding it back to back that I couldnt move my whole body the next day and guess what, I was so darn thrilled I couldnt wait to ride it again. Well I am 43 and I was raised in an era when we didnt have all of these loops and twist just nice airtime. These kids have no respect for the CLASSICS. hahahahhaha just teasing so please dont write me back with nasty comments. SON OF THE BEAST looks just like its name. I cant wait to ride that sucka. It cant be much more rough than anything else I have ridden and as for Mean Streak it is still one of my favorite coasters and I rode it when it was new and I rode it 2 yrs ago and it isnt any rougher than it was the day it opened, I think most people tolerance level gets lower as they age not the coaster.
  21. I have never heard of this type of coaster. Where are some, how do u get down, how much do they cost and how safe r they?
  22. I am definitly a theme park fan, I love theming but It has to be at least 5 coasters there. That is why I dont care for Cedar Point. No atmosphere at all. So I love an amalgamation of the 2 but if I had to pick one I would say coasters, that is why I wont go to Florida, not enough coasters.
  23. Robb and Elysia I just admire you all, it looks as if u all just really enjoy life and that baby is so lucky, I want to grow up and be like u all one day.
  24. I am not an engineer but can someone tell me what would make the ride change? I have always wondered this because I see a lot of people saying the ride changes on a lot of different coasters.
  25. Thank you. I wonder how many people will have to be on the train before they are allowed to dispatch it. I went to Buffalo Bills in Nevada and they wouldnt release the train unless it was a certain amount of people aboard. That is why I asked about the hours because I am sure Kemah wont be crowded enough during the week to keep the train rolling during the hours of operation.
