Beemerboy, Linda LoveLace or Dolemite For President
ginzo replied to Scaparri's topic in Random, Random, Random
I'm writing in Priest from Superfly. He could whip both Dolemite and Shaft with both hands tied behind his back. Also, Priest's theme song was written by Curtis Mayfield, which gives him a lot of points. -

Right, but the MSM/political blogs are pushing the meme that Palin is in favor of teaching creationism in science classes. She has no track record of doing any such thing and has stated that she will not pursue this end. Sure she could reverse her position, but it seems highly unlikely as the woman apparently has little interest in this. As someone who has a background in science, has done scientific research, and is starting science-based professional school next year, I actually give a crap about this particular issue. In fact, if the McCain-Palin ticket does come out in favor of this nonsense, I'll vote for Obama-Biden. And, I'm in Ohio. My vote actually counts. Very true. But lying and politicians go together like performance-enhancing drugs and cyclists.

Just to set the record straight a bit, Sarah Palin backed away from her earlier, probably caught off guard, comment on teaching creationism in the schools. Apparently, she doesn't support teaching creationism in the schools as part of the official curriculum. http://dwb.adn.com/news/politics/elections/story/8347904p-8243554c.html This, of course, is pure BS because creationism is religion, not science and therefore has no place in a science class. There is no evolution v. creation debate in science. However, Palin quickly backpedaled with this: So, there's not much to worry about on this issue. Apparently, she has little interest in the issue. If she wants to believe in creationism, that's fine. It only becomes a serious problem when they want to teach non-science in the science classroom. As for Palin, she's just the VP candidate and the best course for Obama supporters is probably to ignore her. The more crap she gets along the way the more she can play the victim and "campaign against the press".

I'm with you on that, bro. Political conventions are giant circle jerks for smug political true believers (aka born followers) to either get inappropriately dewy eyed as in the case of Obama's speech or engage in some good ole fashion jingoistic chest pounding and chanting of "U-S-A" as in the case of last night. While I guess some people enjoy them, they're definitely not my scene. I don't want power or fame, just PMW.

2008 Golden Tickets
ginzo replied to Airtime&Gravity's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What's funny about that is there is no Disney park even in the top 5 for Kid's Areas. The only reason I could think for this is if they consider the Magic Kingdom parks to be children's parks and that this category is reserved for kiddie sections within regular amusement parks. Not saying I agree with this logic, but it could offer an explanation of sorts. -
Disingenuous. The Republican Party of the 1860s was a very different animal when compared to today.

Eh, her performance was decent: The Gettysburg Address it was not.

But their voter pool sounds impressive to me: Why the HECK does Cedar Point keep winning? I don't get it. One thing I did notice was that Efteling came in second place for landscaping behind BGE. While I personally think that Efteling's landscaping is 8293492349234923942394239x better than BGE's, this is somewhat encouraging. -

This is so barftastic. I don't know why they even bother with the expense of mailing out and tabulating ballots if they're just going to post the same results year after year. -

For Spaghetti Wednesdays did they use the premium La Famiglia DelGrosso sauces or just their regular sauce with the spaghetti? It would have been quite a treat if they gave you the premium sauce because that stuff is delicious. -

I need to give this a whirl, but I'm still running 2000. Firefox is a piece of trash. It's slow, has memory leaks all over the place, and the multimedia support is very questionable.

What problems have you noticed with the park? We were there yesterday and had a pretty good day out. Though it was extremely dead, which I think helped matters a lot. The main thing I noticed was that Cornball was running pretty poorly. Maybe this is just because it's the end of the season and the ride needs some off season work, but I wasn't impressed with it much. We only rode it twice even though it was walk-on all day. The skyride broke down and they had to climb one of the towers and use a special tool to pull the cable back on to the guide wheels. Also, Den of Lost Thieves had a brief outage when we got there, but was up for most of the day. Is the Falling Star coming out? It'll be a bummer if they do that. As for Steel Hawg, I thought it was pretty fun. A nice little addition to the park. Something like Formule X at Drievliet would have been a little bit better, but Steel Hawg is still a pretty solid addition even if it's not mind blowing. -
Obama has a great response to all the people worked up about Sarah Palin's family: I agree with this. Although I'm not impressed with Sarah Palin as a politician, I don't think her teenage daughter is fair game. Her daughter didn't ask to be thrust upon the national political stage. She just got dragged along for the ride. Lots of teens have sex. Bristol just got unlucky. End of story.

Nope. Most people in the US are stuck with whatever health plan their employer offers because the current tax code strongly favors employer-sponsored plans. Most people don't get to shop around for health insurance, which means that the private insurers don't really have to compete for business. Also, the government has all kinds of dumb restrictions on buying health insurance, like you can't buy it from an out of state company. Also, there's EMTALA, which says that hospitals must provide emergency care to anyone who shows up regardless of their ability to pay. Sounds great on the surface, but the government does not pick up the bill. This forces hospitals to overbill everyone else or go under. And the US government sets all kinds of artificial price controls on health care through their Medicare/aid programs. They paid US hospitals about $30 billion below cost in 2006. In short, there absolutely is not a health care free market in the US. The government is heavily involved. He's not a messiah, he's a lightworker. Duh! I actually watched an OK docu about Obama today. It was a bit heavy on the puffing, but fairly informative. I was a lot more impressed by him than I expected to be. He might be steeped in dirty Chicago politics, but his history does suggest that is is deeply committed to public service.

While they make up a very, very, very small percentage of Obama supporters, the New Age cultists *love* Obama. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2008/06/06/notes060608.DTL? This kind of mumbo jumbo makes me quite uncomfortable.

The new coaster could have been under contract and not really possible to cancel without losing a ton of money. I agree. I'm willing to give the new ownership a chance to learn how to run the place. My trip earlier this year was just fine. I'm going on Labor Day and am expecting it to be good. The only park that I want to apply the "one bad visit" rule to is Clementon. Burn that place down. A crackhouse would contribute more to the community. -
No matter how much of a front we put up, "that guy" lurks inside every man. Deep down we're just not that complex inside. Yeah, voting for the Republican ticket based on the veep candidate's looks is silly, but her looks are worth mentioning because surely they've haven't hurt her career. John Edwards built his entire political career on his looks/hair. BTW: It's safe now to say that the choice of Palin was wise on McCain's behalf. James Dobson came out today and said he'll vote for McCain. Earlier in the election he said he'd never vote for McCain. This is HUGE because Dobson brings a ton of evangelical votes along with him.

I tried Xanax last time I flew, and it definitely DID NOT WORK. And it was only an hour and a half flight! I think you underestimate my world-class ability to freak the heck out. No, I definitely need something to knock me on my @ss. What was the dose? A really high amount, like 5 mg, would probably do the trick. You're going to have a harder time getting someone to give you the big guns, like Thorazine or barbiturates. You can always test out whatever they give you ahead of time to see if it knocks you out. The really strong stuff will give you a wicked headache when you wake up and leave you feeling dopey, possibly for days afterward. -
Yep, I've pondered the ostensible allure of the Republican Party: low taxes, limited government, investment in infrastructure, etc. Then they smack me in the face with some USDA Grade A stupid like this or the Federal Marriage Amendment. The stupid, it burns!

I think it's an interesting political response to Obama, but probably won't help McCain in the way he thinks it will. Stuff like this irritates me: Disingenuous rubbish. But, at least she backpedaled with:

While I do agree that he's making too much out of the Hoosier Hurricane thing, I still think Screamscape is pretty damn good for what it is. When you're dealing in rumors, it's always going to be a bit questionable. But, Lance has had some real scoops. Nobody believed him when he posted that Sheikra was going floorless and look how that one turned out. -
