Yeah, the problem is that many bars/clubs never installed proper ventilation, like smoke eaters or whatever. When I was ~22-24, I'd go out 3-5 nights per week, and some of those places were intolerable. Dancing + heavy smoke inhalation = bad. I'd start choking on the smoke, and have to leave. The clubs that paid some money to ventilate were absolutely fine. You don't need smoke to have a nightlife. Many have tried to claim that banning smoking would kill bars, which is absolutely not true. California and NYC have vibrant night club scenes, and have both banned smoking for a while (especially California). By banning smoking you attract people to come out that wouldn't come out before due to not liking the smoke. Also, in some areas under an indoor smoking ban the bars have chosen to install outdoor patio areas, which is a really nice solution, at least in the warmer months.

You like Gwazi, but not Montu? I put Gwazi into the "please burn it down" category. The only hope for that ride is if they would retrofit it with Millennium Flyer trains. If the Hershey Wildcat retrofit turns out well, this just might happen. Who would have thought they would go through the trouble of modifying Sheikra's trains.

KidTums Goes To Florida! An Ongoing Photo TR!

Yes. It would violate the Geneva Convention to subject prisoners of war to any attraction featuring the voice acting of Gilbert Gottfried. I'd rather have bamboo shoots burned under my finger nails. -

OMG....have you seen the "Under New Management" show where Zazu and that other stupid bird take it over, make fun of the old Tiki room and start singing like lounge music? Wow...it's bad. --Robb Yeah, I don't know who thought it would be a good idea to hire Gilbert Gottfried to do voice acting. -
Note that I don't support banning smoking outright, only in indoor public places. I shouldn't have to risk a lung tumor just to go out to a bar or restaurant. It's also highly unfair to non-smokers who work in such establishments.

While I agree that smokers have a right to destroy their health as they see fit, I don't think that smoking indoors in public places is necessary. Despite what Penn & Teller claim, there is decent empirical evidence that second-hand smoke is harmful. A person's individual rights only extend so far as to not harm others.

It does have great airtime, but it's a little bit rough. It could be a pretty good woodie with a little track work.

11 people voted for Iron Dragon? That ride runs so slowly a hamster farting could valley it. -
Maybe you're just too much of a Disneyland fanboy Yeah, I think that Fantasyland is pretty weak in Magic Kingdom compared to Disneyland. There are few dark rides left, which means excessive lines for the remaining few. Dark rides shouldn't have long waits! Also, Magic Kingdom has a few of those crappy looking old tent buildings in Fantasyland, which suck compared to the nice stone buildings at Disneyland. You'd think that their premier park would get the good stuff, but nope.

I think Cedar Point is overrated. The park is fun, and I'm looking forward to going back. But, their coaster collection isn't all that great. They don't have a good woodie, nor any truly top tier coasters. A few of the rides, like Mantis and Mean Streak, are terrible. Sadly, I think that Wildcat might be my favorite coaster in the park. Cedar Downs is fun, and the park does have a solid assortment of flat rides. I'm going to have to disagree with the people who claim that Kings Island is overrated. Yes, the park has a pretty crappy coaster collection, but it gets little hype or attention and is therefore not overrated. Ohio people seem mesmerized by Cedar Point though.

Geauga Lake Pre Season TOur
ginzo replied to RollerC's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hahaha. I was planning on going to Geauga Lake next Friday, until I read this thread. This wouldn't have been a big deal, because I'm going to be in the area all weekend anyway. Still, it would have been funny to have my own Clark W. Griswold moment. Has their season always been this short? Me at Geauga Lake next Friday. -

Actually, they're calling it "America's Rockin' Roller Coast" these days. I guess they wanted to steal Disneyland's failures with Rockin' California Screamin' and Rockin' Space Mountain. -

*shrug* Nobody here really knows the particulars of this contract, nor who pushed to have the inversion removed. Innovation and deadlines are not happy bedfellows. Who other than Intamin could bring a project like this to fruition? I don't see the utility in pushing a vendor around for a relatively minor delay that will likely have little impact on the CF's bottom line and long term prospects. Maverick will be up and working soon, and the vast majority of CP guests won't even know about the delay. I was up there from Saturday through Monday, and heard NOTHING about Maverick. I did hear about a supposed coaster in Japan that is taller than TTD. -

I call BS on #2. Unless the original contract stipulated penalties for not meeting a deadline, why the hell would Intamin pay? And with these projects being so complex and unpredictable, why would Intamin ever agree to such terms? Revenue loss is a pretty nebulous thing, as there is no way to accurately figure out how much money this has cost Cedar Point, if much at all. I was there opening weekend, and the place had a pretty good crowd. #1 is a definite possibility because the ride is now not meeting the original specifications. -

Yup! Pfft. Having actually seen the ride testing, I still think it'll easily be their best ride. -

Tip: try saucing the pasta in the pot that you heat the sauce up in. Just dump the pasta on top of the heated sauce, and then stir. This ensures that the sauce is evenly distributed across all of the pasta. Also, try grating some parmigiano reggiano on your pasta. It's expensive, but worth every cent.

I think your expectations from the ops might be a little high. Have you ever been to a park that has truly awful ops? *cough* *cough* Mt. Olympus. -

I disagree a bit here James. To me locking guests up in lines unnecessarily is bad for business. Waiting in line makes people grouchy and gives them less time to spend money in the park. Of course, on a super slow day single train operations are OK, even preferable. There's a safety increase to having single train operations because there's zero chance of trains wrecking into one another like, say, Lisebergbanan did last year. -

I was there yesterday, and can confirm that they were doing some test runs! Yes, the trains are very quiet when they run, almost silent. Maverick looks like it's going to be an awesome ride. I've never seen anything quite like that twisted mess of track. -
I really hope Derek's theory about Ride of Steel is correct. I'm hitting Darien Lake later this month, and I'll be pretty bummed if my first experience on a real Intamin hyper (MF doesn't count) involves a lot of rattle.
