Wasn't there supposedly some sort of exclusive deal with Busch and B&M that would prevent Six Flags from doing this? There are so many other things that could be installed anyway. A motorbike coaster, a Eurofighter, another Intamin woodie, etc. I think they'll realize that their parks only need so many family coasters.

Hypersonic XLC vs. Dodonpa
ginzo replied to RIP Psyclone's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No ride is worth a 150 minute wait if you already have the credit. I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one... ^^You'd think the ride be smoother with those tires...it sounds like Superman? I made the mistake of going to Cedar Point on Labor Day weekend. Several major rides were closed, which caused unthinkable waits. They had a 90 minute wait posted for Blue Streak! We wound up riding a few misc. rides, and then left at like 3 PM. Maverick is possibly my favorite ride, but I'm not going to wait 3 hours for it. No way. I'd rather leave the park, and use my day off for something better than standing in line all day. -

Hypersonic XLC vs. Dodonpa

Hypersonic was pretty rough after the hill in July, especially for a steel coaster with no OTSRs. Not horrible, but not good. I don't think it's any great mystery why parks are buying Intamin rockets like crazy, but not any of these. Hypersonic is a clunky, low capacity nightmare. We waited about an hour to get on it on a day where everything else had a 10 minute or less wait. Hypersonic is also an absurdly noisy coaster, similar to Superman: The Escape. Are the wheels just raw steel not coated in polyurethane? -
Disney Land, Knotts and Universal during January
ginzo replied to MWkc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I hit all of those last January, and they were not packed. It's a great time to go for crowds. You can count on some rides being closed though, especially at Disneyland as they remove holiday overlays and do ride rehab. You should consider lobbying to have your group visit Legoland. It's one of the neater parks in SoCal. -
I only regret this because I never got this credit. I hit SFGAm last year, but didn't make it on this. I was going to make a quick trip to SFGAm this month to get the 6 credits I'm missing there, but I couldn't get off my lazy butt. Dang it! missed credit I have been on SFMM's Deja, and wasn't too fond of it. I suppose it's much better than a standard boomerang or invertigo, but it's still just a junky Vekoma to me. I look forward to riding the Vekoma woodies on the Europe trip next year. Maybe I'll finally get to like a Vekoma for a change.

Intamin's New Website

Roller coasters are linked right off the front page. http://www.intaminworldwide.com/iag/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=22&Itemid=32 It sounds like you may have gotten stuck on the Ride Trade page. -

The Wing Rider Launch Coaster page has a video of Kingda Ka. Oops. Oh, and the woodie page just has a regular old woodie video. They talk up the prefab woodies, but then give a video of a plain old woodie. -
I believe he was talking about how CF added Cornhole, a crappy carnival game, to Geauga Lake. Son of Beast gets my vote for dumbest addition. Wooden coaster engineers have known for years the folly of building overly large woodies. And Kings Island goes and builds the mother of all kludges. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. They could have used that same money to build a B&M hyper. This would have been infinitely more popular, would have given the park a true marquee coaster, and would not have mangled a train full of riders. And with 3 trains they would have a serious capacity machine, which is something the park needs. Waiting an hour to ride a rough, obsolete coaster like Vortex is not cool.

New TPR DVD! What's In A Brain?

"The Ballad of Mr. Six" is easily the best thing ever posted to TPR. I eagerly await receiving the DVD. -
Getting stuck on a ride!
ginzo replied to disneygurlz2s's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That sounds awful. I think it's uncomfortable just climbing the lift hill on B&M flyers. I can't imagine hanging there for an extended period of time. -
Why did they do that?
ginzo replied to Fallen Heretic's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, I don't mind it either. B&M did admit, however, that they messed up that part. Xcelerator gave me a much worse gut shot in its brake run. -

I'm a scholar. I enjoy scholarly pursuits. Oh, I greatly prefer Six Flags over Cedar Fair. No comparison there. I just think a B&M hyper, goofy trains or not, is a much more impressive addition than anything Six Flags is putting in. But I generally consider GCII coasters to be good, but not great. And Nitro and Goliath SFOG are probably my two favorite hypers so far. -

Yeah, but I'm going to have to give them the edge over Six Flags as far as 2008 installs goes. They're installing a new B&M (Behemoth), while Six Flags is installing junk apart from the GCII woodie. At least a lot of the new-for-2008 can be hit on one fairly easy trip. Hershey > Knoebels > Canada's Wonderland > Waldameer -
Why did they do that?
ginzo replied to Fallen Heretic's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, those two Intamin hypers that I mentioned both have final bunny hops leading straight into the brake run. Maybe the brakes are just a little bit too close to the bunny hop on Goliath. -

Holiday World being overrated almost goes without saying. It's basically an excellent water park with 3 good woodies. Although 3 good coasters is a lot more than many parks have, the overall picture of the rides side is that it's not really built up enough to be considered among the best. -

Isn't the brake run itself the problem? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the SFA and DL S:ROS hypers have bunny hops that are just as close to the brake run? Anyway, it's not that big of a deal. I thought Xcelerator had a worse stop. -

To some degree yes. But if some woman thinks that watching Baywatch constitutes cheating, this doesn't mean that the man was cheating. It means that the woman is a moron. -

The group assigners definitely do a good job of controlling the station. Few things are more annoying than an unmanaged station where you can't even tell what line people are in. Nothing says pain in the rear like having to ask 15 people if they're waiting for the front. That said they should still honor requests for the front/back, and build special queues to accomodate this. -

Wow, this is an interesting spin on what I consider to be a fairly harmless vice. It amazes me that we still haven't beaten this very treatable pathogen. TB sounds so retro to me, but apparently it never really went away. -

Parks can't build 100% uptime coasters for the same reasons that no car company can sell you a 100% reliable car. Engineers are human, and therefore are not perfect. And mechanical systems have a tendency to break down. Materials wear out. Electrical and computer systems can have glitches. I hate it when coasters are down as well, especially if I haven't got the credit yet. But it's just a fact of the amusement park business. TTD, Raptor, Maverick, half of Skyhawk, and MaxAir were all down for part or all of the day the last time I went to Cedar Point. -

So, when I order a hamburger at the concession stand the park should be able to serve me a hotdog. Why should I have the right to choose what food I want? It's their concession stand, not mine.
