Six Flags Atlantis
raptorcrew2002 replied to map2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Atlantis the water kingdom, Six Flags Atlantis Atlantis (Not sure on the order, but it did operate under 3 names) I grew up in Boca Raton Florida, and visited the park from its opening year until the year I moved to Daytona around 1988. I would usually visit this park about 4 - 10 times a year. It was located in Hollywood Florida right alongside of I95 and near Grand Prix go cart tracks and family center. I still remember that park very well, it was a cool park and actually pretty big. A lot bigger then say Wet N Wild in Orlando for comparison. It had water channels that ran through the center of the most the walk ways so when the ground was really hot you could walk through water. Opening year. They had 3 body slides, 1 speed slide, 1 triple drop slide that in the early years had a right hand 180 degree turn at the end. “later it was made into a straight slide and the curve was removed” I’m still not sure what the huge hill was supposed to be. It was behind the activity pool and next to the main slide tower. The hill was removed I want to say the next year, but it was supposed to be some sort of slides or something. The area ended up a mini golf course. They had a wave pool, kiddy area that rocked, it really was the bomb. They also had 1 bridge that went out over the lake where you could get on bumper boats. This area would end up becoming the stage and water show area. They did have picnic areas and an area setup for concerts. …… Fast forward… The park added allot of slides, 3 more to the main tower on the right side, they where all inner tube slides and the black hole which didn’t last long as someone either died, or got very injured and the slide was torn down. http://www.afn.org/~afn04050/level/atlantis/atlantis.html That main photo on that site shows the black hole on the right side of the tower "its the one thats enclosed" and the 3 slides that where added later, that photo was actually after a few years of opening as the original tower had nothing on the right side in the early years. They also had added a racing sled type slide, where you ride the board down the chute into the water channels. This slide was the best, they had a little beverage spot next to it and the old people used to sit around it so when you came down you could angle the board and soak them. I am still an a$$ to this day. Around this time I remember Six Flags name being placed in the park, and they added loony tunes characters and flat rides. The Major rides they added where. 1 – Huss Enterprise 1 – Matter horn 1 – Pirate Ship 1 – Himalaya (Which I think I saw working a whole 1 or maybe 2 times) Kiddy rides had. 1 – Mini Swing 1 – Red Baron And a couple others but I cannot remember. After Six Flags sold out, they removed the rides, and the company added a couple more slides. I don’t really know too much after the 88 season, but it sucks Andrew killed that park, it really was a fun park and I can honestly say that was the park that built my interest in thrill rides, and parks. That park was my first extreme ride “speed slide” and my first upside down ride “enterprise” Oh and my first e-stop.. One night a storm was rolling in, and we went for one more ride on the Enterprise, near the end of cycle the ride arm was still probably about 10-12 feet up and everything went pitch black, all you heard was people screaming and a loud burst of air coming from the master cylinder as the ride came down a little faster then normal.. That was so cool, man that thing takes a long time to stop under friction alone. Thanks for the memories, and I hope this made sense. I’m at work kind of had to slap this together… Cheers! -

Georgia Cyclone, of all coasters at sfog. Many many years back I think on the second drop I found myself going right out of the train, almost like standing up, and my friend grabed my arm and pulled me back down, it was funked up. I have no idea how, my lap bar had to come up. (That was about the first time I can say I have ever held on for the rest of the ride) Ohhhh cannot forget.. Space Shot. Having worked an S&S shot tower @ CP for a week "boring, well other then the jiggly test and ac in controls, hehe ", IT REALLY! freaked me out with the whole, the harness doesn't lock until cycle, that is screwed up, and I was really thinking worse case here! Sadly that ended up being the most intense part of the ride. Other then that I haven't had any other possible bad outcomes, TONS of all my god is this ever going to end while in complete pain, yes. Not too impressed, but not unexpected. Should add a nice addition to the park, but I do agree with the whole "a little over hyped deal" They should of named it fire crotch "blazing out of the hole @ 70 mph, wow" The one good thing that comes to mind with this design is this. Roll backs galore!! With multi firing sections hahahaha. This sucker is going to be a nightmare getting the bugs worked out like all Lim, LSM coasters at opening. Heck, Volcano uses just a booster section and that thing mis fires still to this day. I hope they keep that little crane thing usually on Mill-island parked near this coaster next year. Heres looking forward to the wrong direction in 07.. Cheers! -
PTR: Carnival Cruise to the Bahamas
raptorcrew2002 replied to Hattuchili's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Good point. My brother's a WDW CM, and he's taken several Disney Cruises over the last five years or so....each for 50% off, or something like that (don't quote me). Disney cruises are great, only if you don't mind the huge number of kids on board. Carnival's okay for a quick hop to the Bahamas, but anything beyond that deserves Princess Cruise Line. If you go on a Disney cruise with a CM on the Disney cruise, depending on time of year etc. I want to say the last 4 night one I did was like 575 on Magic out of Port C, and that was for 2 people not each, plus it also includes the tips. *How is Princess cruise line? I have heard both good and bad? It's always cool to see people go on their first cruise, and I'm glad you guys had a great time. It's kind of one of those you love it or hate kind of trips. But for your next Cruise like others have said I would look into some of the other cruise lines, and get far away from Freeport and Nassau. And nothing less then 5 nights min. Disney is ok for a family cruise and Disney does have great food!!!! But not for a couple without kids, I mean you can have a lot of fun, I got drunk and am proud of the mark I left on the top deck "Don't egg on the russian bartenders, bad bad idea" Royal Caribbean I have been the most happy with, the food however is not the best, but the ships, damn the ships are awesome and will make up for any short coming, stay with the voyager class of ships or of course freedom . Freedom of the seas is the best ship in the industry right now by far. Mariner of the seas is a beautiful ship and the shows are very good, just stay away from the art auctions (I'm still having problems sitting). The shore excursions are not that expensive and offers tons of them many more then Disney. So congrats on your first cruise. You know thats what you guys on this group should do, a TPR cruise. I'm sure theres a small coaster on one of the island ports of call and with some decent volume you should get a great rate offering. Cheers! -

Always?? You know I dont see much in the ways of theming over by Raptor, or Mantis...or Magnum...Actually I think theming is a little less of a priority than you give credit for. I bet the main reason they're moving along so fast is to beat that Lake Erie winter, because the Great Lakes basically are an open window for all that winter wind from Canada to blow right over. I imagine it would be a nightmare to try and construct in the winter. Did they build in winter for TTD? Dude he was joking.. Theming and Cedar Point is just kind of a good joke, because honestly they really do try, but they also know they suck at it. BUT! At least they don't build parking lot coaster's. And yes TTD was built during the winter, by park closing in 02 they only had a small section of the tower up, and yes they did actually start ground construction early on this one, thats why the new coaster is kind of interesting because they started so VERY early building this one, earlier then TTD. Track section How? If that is for Lims to be mounted then this ride had better be a people mover, and I still wouldn't trust that kind of attachment. #1. the trust would shear the lim block off, unless it was for a glide section. #2. the train would have to ride about 17" off the track to clear the lim block, which is possible for some new radical ride design. #3. The track would be recessed to house the lim for a top or bottom application like suggested. Think wicked twister, steel venom, etc. The tracks in the stations are recessed in the center to allow for the lim blocks. Also LIMS are mounted to very strong supports sections. Just because it's a magnetic field doesn't mean mass and force does not apply. That track actually looks kind of like a lift section without guide brackets attached, or even possible transfer, station track, for sensors, pressure plate. Who knows. If lims are used and not installed from the sides, then you need to look for track sections that are more square and open in the center for mounting. So now the real question is how long after opening will it be before they have to add more supports to the ride? Hurray structural problems.??? Cheers! -
July 17th 06, slightly over half way up the tower on superman. Not sure but I agree the ride has to be running slower. I know in 99 we where just short of the trims. I know at Cedar Point MF has a history of trying different wheels, and some of them have dropped the speed noticeable "cough roll back on the island 02 before opening, but in defense it was also cold that morning". They do that to find hardware that lasts longer so who knows maybe they have been trying different materials? Cheers!

I assure you they are and have. And we will not even go into the pilots union, but they still have a lot of issues to take care of. *Fast snap shot... Delta dropping local service to Atlanta Last Update: 8/14/2006 11:42:43 AM Delta Air records loss in second quarter Last Update: 8/10/2006 3:02:02 AM Delta posts $2.2 billion second-quarter loss, turns profit on adjusted basis Last Update: 8/9/2006 4:55:28 PM Delta made the request to shut down 16 of its 24 gates at the Orlando airport on Thursday in New York bankruptcy court. Such a move would end Delta's title as the region's most powerful and largest carrier as early as next month. [Dec. 05] Watch out for the words adjusted, they use that to make statements sound stronger to protect market reactions. "Adjusted means nothing" Also most of Deltas planes are leased, not owned. Delta should make it, but I think we will see the words merger. *Sorry no more market talk.. Cheers! -

Delta is still in bankruptcy, selling assets and gates, delisted from the exchange and trading otc. But hey at .71 with 52 wk high @ 1.50 and low @ .30 cents, good cheap stock to buy for a gamble. I see a future for S&S just not until a major shake up or change in direction and scope. I just think it's too late for them to create a distance from the Arrow name and operation. They just need to go back to what they do good at. Oh and as for the frog hopper, that thing rocks! Cheers! -

I wouldn't say they switched from Hydraulic. LIMS use a high current pulse if you ran a Lim coaster on say TTD, damn that would be expensive. Where as the hydraulic system would only use a fraction of the required power for a ride of that size and speed. Superman at SFMM for example uses LSM and is very expensive to run just on power consumption. Also using LIMS allow for booster sections without having the ride come to a complete stop during the ride "aka. volcano's secondary launch, or even wicked twister" Using secondary launches is tough, as I'm sure a few can relate the feeling on volcano when the second set doesn't fire "hehe" and you get the roll back, so we will see. LIM and even LSM launch systems both have more then their own share of problems, but at the least no cables that can break. All I know is those turns are big and I'm not a fan of large slow turns so this thing had better have some speed, or else that looks to be a pretty boring part of the ride. Cheers! -
S&S Sansei Discussion Thread
raptorcrew2002 replied to Coaster Joe's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sounds very realistic. I always thought the whole merging/buyout of arrow dynamics was a bad idea from the start. S&S should of gone in their own direction and just built their own fab shop, and hell they could of bought all the equipment and rights that would of been liquidated from arrow. In biz you never take a company with a bad image and run with it. They should of bought the company, BUT kept it under wraps and NEVER referenced Arrow in the first place. I think what hurt them on the coaster side was the idea of selling parks they where not arrow dynamics. And to be honest, where are the innovative rides? 4D doesn't count, it still hasn't shown to be reliable. It's one thing to make something look good, but if you can't market it? Also S&S hasn't been without it's own issues "cough" VertiGo "cough" Not sure how all that settled out. Either way sad if this is true, but I think the company has not been running in the right direction for sometime now, and seemed to have lost that spark they brought them in the game. Cheers! -

I don't think it's going to be an AquaTrax for multi reasons. The largest would be capacity. You know how many blocks would have to be on that ride to move a lot of people. Also the support issue, I think people are forgetting more supports will be bolted onto the ones currently installed. And those V supports are most likely going to be for support braces. And dont forget, CP is trying to draw more people into that area of the park, one coaster isn't going to keep them in that area, I still bet on the larger plan of more then just 1 new ride, even if it is a relocated ride, etc. As for being a dissapointment if it is an Aquatrax, I would say yes for one reason, that kind of ride should have good themeing, and CP cannot do theming in that size right. I'm sure it will be fun either way although. Cheers! ... Just wondering, what is the capacity on the existing aquatrax? Real world, and not the spec? -

Hey just be glad they finally ran out of all the bright paint after top thrill and iron dragon. Maverick could of been orange I still agree with the multi looper as most likely, or well they could be just doing all the work to cover up the truth, yes you heard it here first, they only bought paramount parks for the rights to build their own mini cooper coaster. Man the length people will go to cover up things. Light bulb"" This could actually be fun, if you where to theme cedar points coaster's, what and how would you theme them, new names if required too. And who would you want to sponsor them? Cheers! -
HHN 16 tickets on sales, now.
raptorcrew2002 replied to raptorcrew2002's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The events do sell out (Orlando, never been to Hollywood HHN), but there is no science, weekends usualy. The big thing is buying your HHN tickets and buying the Express pass early, the express passes will and do sell out as the express passes are more limited. But if you buy the express pass and not the event ticket, and it does sell out you are SOL. If you have never been, and I'm sure others will tell you, you really want the express pass or you will spend your night waiting in line and might not see everything. The event is very worth hitting, lots of fun. Just don't suck the fog out of the fog machines "don't ask" Cheers! -
Yeah, what were we thinking? It would be much too cumbersome to have one of these huge things laying around. No one said you need to have a M.A.S.H. in the queue station, nor was it mentioned that the parks should be prepared for nuclear fallout or anything, just a simple AED may work wonders...or maybe not, but it certainly wouldn't hurt matters any. www.early-defib.org/03_06_07.html Scott "sigh" B. Dude, ask a lawyer, if you are going to stock AED, and someone dies from an issues where the correct equipment and not an AED could of saved their lives, tell me the whole issues of well if you have this why don't you have this at the rides. Thats negligence, and even worse by having them at the rides, the park is admitting to issues which some people will, and could use against the company. I don't think it's a bad idea by any means having the AED, but I can see at so many levels of how it could turn ugly, and the first step I would rather see the money spent in traning of employees first. The whole issues of a ride employee helping an injured, etc guest is VERY tricky. A ride op, can not even give a guest water without supervision, or shouldn't. The guest could have an effect. If I held a guests hand to help them out the a ride, and they slipped I am liable, not the park. When laws are passed to protect and park workers from being charged directly I am all for the rides having any form of assitance equipment. Cheers!

If you need a discount for a hotel go to hotwire and search for Valencia, CA. The Hyatt is the only 3.5 start hotel on that results so it's easy to know which one it is, and you can book if for as low as 98 - 105 a night. As for Sfmm tickets, dude, buy them online @ six flags website, you save 20.00 and it's only 39.99 for an adult ticket. And for real fun rent the Shelby mustang from hertz @ Lax if that is where you are flying into.. Cheers! -
I do think all parks should have, #1. All leads/Sups should be trained in CPR and certified. (leads/sups can be first responders in most cases while medical help is arriving)) #2. All major rides (coaster, or rides that pull a high level of G's) should be required to have one certified ride op on platform trained for CPR. #3. They do not need equipment at each ride, thats nonsense. They can not stock each ride for all the types of equipment needed to insure all situations. Spend the cost of equipment in training CPR, you will have a better park wide outcome. Sucks to see things like this happen. People should get a physical before they start riding these things, even at a younger age it seems nowadays. As for those who say it's "Disney" it should be safe, well they are BUT they are also machines. All parents and people in general need to respect what they are, even if it's called a Kiddy ride, umm, electric motor with high torque possible hydraulics, motion = crushed, dragged in the wrong spot at the wrong time. I bet the death to guest ratio @ Disney is not really as bad as one would expect, compared to other parks, attendance and operating days. Cheers..

I mean really, the only reason they even made the idea public was to see who might knock on the door, or show up under the table "Monica?" with offers. And if the park is sold, and not auctioned off like I would expect, I would love to see Kennywood Entertainment make an offer. Just because in the 90's Premier tried to buy KW, KW told them to get screwed, and then out bid KW on Geauga Lake. Ahh vindication. But I know it would never happen.. Cheers!
