Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread

Good - new trains. Seems as if there's hope for the lowly B&M Stand-up coaster after all. How they need to build more Sitting coasters. -
My drawing of Hersheypark (with a surprise)
A.J. replied to HPCrazy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looks great. The only nitpick I have is that Whirlwind's (the funnel slide) perspective seems to be a little off. It looks a bit flattened. -
The TPR Games Forum Moderators Random Thread

R.D. - I handled the Iris Islands situation for you because I know you get a bit heated when a TPR <-> NE debacle rears its ugly head. Hello - Thanks for sharing your park with us. Unfortunately, we don't like your "keep away" attitude. While NewElement's policies do state that in order for your park to be reviewed by the panel you must release it there first, that doesn't mean you should be playing keep away. Either share your park in full with us, or don't share at all. A lot of our members submit parks to NewElement (I personally am working on one that I may submit for a panel review), and they seem to be willing to share their parks in full with us beforehand. I'm not trying to be mean - the more you share, the more feedback you get. That's the way it works everywhere, and everyone's feedback counts. I will restore your thread. Please keep what I said in mind. ~A.J. -
Iris Islands [RCT2]
A.J. replied to SuicideCarz's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Not too bad, there. No custom content, no hacking - it's like the good old days. You might want to do something in the toboggan coaster's land plot though. Foliage, landscaping, SOMETHING. -
Adam (jedimaster1227) brought up a fantastic point in the Dollywood thread. In my nerdy spiel, I forgot about another kind of coaster that straddles the track - the S&S Free Fly. The variant pictured in this photo has a multi-car train and X-like seats. The chassis cover looks similar to what we can see of the new coaster's teaser. Add that to the fact that we haven't seen any B&M track surface other than Dollywood's, and we could possibly be looking at this kind of ride. Thoughts?

Stupid Moves that Parks have made
A.J. replied to tribar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Stitch's Great Escape was not a stupid move. While, as an attraction, it pales in comparison to Alien Encounter, it is truly a technological marvel. The Stitch in the show is still one of the most advanced audio-animatronics that they have ever produced. The moving cannons are a marvel to behold as well. -

From the etiquette thread that you MUST READ BEFORE YOU POST - You have twenty-four hours to meet these requirements (by editing your first post) or your thread will be locked. I'm not being mean, you're just not following the rules. -

A boatload of questions may be answered by reading the instruction manual as well. RTFM. -

Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread
A.J. replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The problem wasn't that they didn't invest - it was that they invested too much in too little time. Roar in 1998; Great Chase, Joker's Jinx, and Two-Face in 1999; Superman in 2000; Batwing in 2001. Six Flags WOA (Ohio/Geauga Lake) was even worse - Road Runner Express (Beaver Land), Knight Flight (Dominator), Superman (Steel Venom) and Villain all in 2000; and X-Flight in 2001. By comparison, Six Flags Great America built Sprocket Rockets in 1998, Raging Bull in 1999, Deja Vu in 2001, Superman in 2003, and Ragin' Cajun in 2004. Investing in so many major attractions in so little time helped Six Flags America in the short run, but became a liability in the long run. I'm sure they were having a lot of trouble making enough money to invest in a major attraction - even though Six Flags America is part of the Six Flags chain, it is still an individual park, and still has a bottom line. And, let's be realistic here - if Six Flags America was performing as badly as we think it is, Six Flags would have dumped it by now. -
It really all comes down to the chassis that sits on the track. It can't be a ZacSpin because there are multiple chassis (s?) linked together. The section featuring a rider (lower left) shows that there is nothing below the rider's feet. Since the chassis is sitting on top of the track and not below, it has to be a ride where riders straddle the track on either side. A fourth-dimension coaster is unlikely because the picture is of a train going forward, where the 4D coasters travel backward when the track faces up. So, by process of elimination, it's either an Intamin Wing Rider or a B&M Wing Coaster. [/nerdyexplanation]

The "Preview" Thread

If you're gunning for realism, you need to support that turnaround more thoroughly. Everywhere you have the single diagonal support, you need to add a vertical support as a brace. -

Even if the ride does turn out to be a relocated Iron Wolf, it's still a good sign that Six Flags America has not been neglected and also could be a sign that improvements are going to start appearing there. -
Parc Asterix Discussion Thread

You make some good arguments. I think the only reason Alpengeist runs out of speed is that mid-course brake run though. Won't this coaster be the first B&M Inverted to not have the zero-drop? -

After looking at the rendering again, you are correct. My perspective was off a bit - which it usually is when I'm looking at a wireframe rendering. Here's the blip from the press release - -

Six Flags America adding five new roller coasters in four years (four of them being massive) was incredibly stupid, IMO. It kind of goes with what Larry said. -
RollerCoaster Tycoon on Nintendo 3DS
A.J. replied to A.J.'s topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Actually, since the price cut, 3DS sales have picked up. You have to remember that this game is targeted at the kids/family market. A parent would much sooner give their child a gaming system (such as a 3DS) than a smartphone. -

This thread is dedicated to covering the development, release, and discussion of the upcoming RollerCoaster Tycoon game for Nintendo 3DS. Update History - Aug 28 2011 - Nintendo Power writes a blip about an upcoming RollerCoaster Tycoon game for Nintendo 3DS Sep 07 2011 - Atari makes the game official with a press release - RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D! --- ORIGINAL POST: Have you ever had one of those days where something slaps you across the face? This certainly did. Atari bringing RollerCoaster Tycoon to 3DS Image courtesy of GoNintendo and Nintendo Power. A.J. says - It looks like it's based off of RCT3, so this might not be the "RCT4" game that PC players are looking for. However, this looks like a game that will succeed on its own merits, and I look forward to play it when it gets released.
