I currently have a 2GB Nano, and the small amount of space will soon become a problem. In the last month alone, I've added over 100 songs to my iPod. I'm not so sure I like the new Nano, however. I have no desire to watch videos, or take up a large chunk of storage space on my iPod, so the extra width for the screen is actually a con in my opinion. The iPod Touch, however, looks very intriguing. When the time comes for me to upgrade my iPod, I may look into getting the Touch.

Celebrities and Athletes you've met...

I saw Kevin Costner way back in 1994 while he was vacationing on Martha's Vineyard off the coast of Massachusetts. He appeared to be angered by the gigantic croud of ladies chasing him to his Jeep. -
Is It Realistic?
jmicha replied to Giovanolafan's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Not really. With the exception of extreme terrain coasters that use lifts to get back to the height of the station (Ninja at SFMM is an example of this) coasters will always brake at a height greater than the station and will only have trainsport wheels to make getting to the station quicker. -
I'm currently listening to the song with the most creative lyrics ever created, Superheroes by Daft Punk, LOL. In case you don't know, all the song says is "Something's in the Air" 72 times.

Wow, not a single person from the former Coasters2K. I remember finding that site in, I think, late 2000 or early 2001. I actually posted quite often on that site as well as uploaded several No Limits coasters over the years until the site was shut down. I remember talking with JonBKChill about how he was hoping to save the Flyer Comet, but that obviously didn't end well.

That stinks that the trims were on hard on Magnum on your visit. I think the accident has scared them away from light or no trims. The ride's airtime on the last four bunny hops when the trims are off is insane. On closing day last year, the air was so strong that my coat and shirt would literally be around my neck from the airtime.

I think the reason why people are getting upset is mostly because of the tone you used when making remarks about rides. I can see how fans of Cedar Point could find it offending. Personally, I am a huge fan of almost every ride at Cedar Point, but I respect your opinion. I think when it comes to a lot of the rides at Cedar Point, it really just depends on what you look for in a coaster. Like you said, you're a fan of coasters with a lot of directional changes, elements, etc. I just like a ride if I have fun on it (which is basically every single coaster I've ever ridden), and large hills and speed are fun to me, so MF and TTD are definately in the top of my list (although it is unfortunately a relatively small list). If I were you, I'd ignore those who want to get into a debate with you, as this is your trip report and you should be able to post your true opinions without being harassed. By the way, thanks for the fantastic pictures so far, it looks like you had a great time.

Disney Orlando / Universal Studios
jmicha replied to nitral's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Lol, every single time I've visited USF, I've eaten at that pizza place. My younger brother and I would always eat quickly so we could get two to three more rides in on Mummy before starting our daily marathon on MiB. -

I agree with not missing Mexico. When I went to Disney in January, we ate at the San Angel Inn in Mexico. Thankfully, we were on the meal plan as the price for the two of us was close to $200. Be prepared to spend a lot on food if you like eating at more than a pizza/burger stand. -

Thanks, maybe we'll do that one night for dinner. -
Universal Orlando in December
jmicha replied to jmicha's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Lol, thanks for the suggestions. It's funny, in the three times that I've visited (a total of eight full days at the parks), I've never eaten at Mythos. My family is more of the "budget eating" family when on vacations, due to the fact that my older brother is in college, I'm going to college for six years (architecture at University of Cincinnati) and my younger brother will start shortly after my older brother ends. Pizza and soda is the typical meal for us. In fact, now that I think of it, the last two times I visited, we had lunch all three days at the pizzaria in the New York section of Universal Studios. When we go, we generally will start the first day at IoA and then head over to US for the second half of the day, and the second and third day are spent doing the opposite. This allows us to get on Pteranadon Flyers once or twice during the vacation and allows for as many rides on Mummy and MiB as humanly possible. Last time we went, we rode Mummy so many times that the ride ops knew we were coming and held the back row for us. I think last time we were there my younger brother and I got in 35 rides on Mummy and 32 rides on MiB in the three days we were there! Lol, I'm going to stop talking now, I'm getting too excited. I honestly think that if I lived closer to Orlando (I live in Ohio), I'd be visiting the park every week. I just can't get enough of it. -
Universal Orlando in December
jmicha replied to jmicha's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks you two. Luckily, this year we're staying at the Royal Pacific Hotel, so we'll be able to have Express Passes for basically every major ride there. -
I have been to Universal Studios Orlando three times in the past four years, and my family has always visited during the third weekend of January. We wanted to go again this coming year, but I am going to college, and do not have vacation at this time. We decided that we would visit during the beginning of my Christmas break. This would mean we are leaving on Wednesday, December 13th, and would be at the park on the 14th, 15th, and 16th. My question is, how will crowds at this point in December (before Christmas vacation) compare to those in late January? Thank you in advance.

Akuma [NL]
jmicha replied to IwantRevenge's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Hey, congratulations on your metal. About the coaster, I really liked it, odd banking and all. The first drop was seriously messed up, but in a very good way, as was the other reverse banked turn. The ride's layout is very fun, and I love the way the ride interacts with its beautiful surroundings. Great job. -
Funniest Ride Experiences
jmicha replied to Coasters 4 ever's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. While in line for Mean Streak, the gold train came back to the station (completely full) and the ride op very excitedly yelled, "How was your ride!!!" About five seconds went by and there wasn't a single noise from the train. The ride op then exclaimed, "Gee, I wonder why that is," clearly poking fun at the rather boring nature of the ride. The rest of the people waiting in line burst into laughter, myself included. 2. A few weeks ago, I rode Cedar Creek Mine Ride and was in the back seat of a full train. We entered the final helix and someone in the front seat yelled, "Oh no, not the helix of death." The relatively quiet train then suddenly began screaming and everyone threw their hands into the air. It was one by far the best ride I've ever had on CCMR. 3. That same day, I got in line for Maverick around eight o'clock after a short breakdown. My friend and I got the the first switchback inside the old WWL building and the ride went down again, reopening about 5 minutes later. We moved about twenty feet and it broke down again. About fifteen minutes into the breakdown, a group of college-age men suddenly began yelling, "1 2 3," and would then throw their hands up in a wave fashion. After about two times later, the queue realized what they were doing and they got the wave to go from the entrance to the WWL building all the way up into the station. It was great fun. 4. After the wave in line for Maverick ended, the ride reopend...then broke down again, greatly aggrivating a group of about five people on the first set of stairs up to the station. They then proceeded to leave the queue, only they began a train. By the time they had gotten through the entire WWL building, they had formed a 25+ person train. These two events made the 2.5 hour wait for Maverick go way faster and is the most fun I've ever had in line for a coaster. -
Attention CP Fanboys!

As many have said, the only rides that you'll have problems with are TTD and MF. Every other ride has bins to put your belongings in. You may be able to bring your cups in line with you if you get the right employee but it would be difficult and a hastle to try to find a way to place it with a non-rider once in/by the station. The employees this year seem to be more relaxed about the loose article rules than previous years. In the past, I was always told not to wear my glasses on MF, yet this year I haven't been told once to please remove them at all. -
Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
jmicha replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Big Dipper runs NAD trains that have been slighltly modified recently with the addition of the seatbelt and GIGANTIC amounts of padding. I'm six feet tall and I just barely fit in the cars. I personally have no problem with the ride's roughness however. This ride is one of my favorites as I truly love classic old wooden coasters like the Big Dipper. Back on topic, however, I visited the park yesterday and got a good look at RWB. There were 4-5 tension cables that had broken and there was a 25-35 foot section that was severely damaged. From Dominator, it was clearly visible that there were several track ties that were completely missing or destroyed. There was also still some wood lying on the ground from the damaged track. I hope they figure out the problem as this is actually a fun coaster that really adds to Geauga Lakes's lineup. -
Despite being your everyday SLC, I feel that Thunderhawk at Geauga Lake is actually exceptionally smooth for what it is. I have absolutely no problem riding that ride and honestly feel that the SLC layout is fantastic. I know I'm in the minority saying this, but having only ridden one SLC, I don't understand the complaints. Is there anyone that has ridden several SLC's that could compare Thunderhawk to others in reference to its smoothness?

Kentucky Kingdom (SFKK, KK) Discussion Thread
jmicha replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or not before (don't have the time to read through 23 pages), but is it possible that the initial impact of the cable wasn't what severed her legs. From the eyewitness reports, the broken cable rapped around here legs. If the cable was rapped around her legs, then the car dropped, could the tension in the cable have suddenly increased dramatically, ending with the severing of the gril's limbs. As many have mentioned, this was tested on Mythbusters, and the only way they could cause the cable to cut through the pig was to rap the cable around the pig and then increase the tension suddenly. In my opinion, this seems like the only way that the poor girl's limbs could have been severed in this incident, considering that several reports say that the cable hit several people but only rapped around the one girl's legs, which would explain how the incident only seriously affected one person. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
jmicha replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No offense Carnage, but if Maverick ranks highly on any top 10 list, it will be because it truly is an awesome ride, not just because it is at Cedar Point. I honestly can't think of anything on the ride that I would change. -
The only coaster that I really still get butterflies on is Top Thrill Dragster the first few times I ride it at the beginning of each new season. After I ride those few times, however, I'm fine for the rest of the season. Swing and drop rides, however, will always scare me. I've never ridden Power Tower and don't plan on riding it. I rode Dr. Doom's Fearfall at IoA and that was enough to hold me over forever. maXair and Skyhawk still get me worked up whenever I ride them, maXair moreso that Skyhawk. Once I ride them, I'm fine, but I will always get nervous the next time I get in line.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
jmicha replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can't answer your question about Joe Cool members, yet I can tell you that I waited through all but two switchbacks in the queue and the wait was only an hour and fifteen minutes long. The ride goes through people relatively quickly and the line is very comfortable to wait in as it is mostly in the shade. I don't think that you'll have to worry about lines any longer than 2 hours ever. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
jmicha replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I just got back from Cedar Point and I got two awesome rides in on Maverick. On the first ride, I requested the back seat and it was incredible. The lift was much faster than expected and the train is literally thrown over the top. The airtime in the back was the strongest airtime I've ever experienced on a coaster. There were two other moments of intense ejector air during both of the air hills. The two inversions in the horseshoe roll offer perfect floater air and together make a fantastic element. The launch, although not nearly as strong as Top Thrill Dragster or even Wicked Twister was very fun as you hardly slow down when coming into the tunnel. I've heard quite a few people upset about the roll being removed, yet after riding the coaster, I honestly can't even imagine going through a heartline roll at those speeds. The s-curve is a fast transition and that only rolls about 90-100 degrees. The two consecutive Stengel dives are also absolute fun as are the two quick transitions following the first drop. I would rate the ride at a 9.5/10. It has now taken the spot of my favorite ride at Cedar Point from Millennium Force and is tied with my all-time favorite coaster, Revenge of the Mummy in Orlando. Every coaster enthusiast needs to ride this ride. I highly doubt that there is anyone that enjoys coasters that could not like this ride. -
Pirates Vs. Shrek 3 Vs. Other Blockbusters
jmicha replied to Adriel's topic in Random, Random, Random
I just got back from seeing Pirates 3. Unfortunately, the movie, in my opinion, was by far the worst of the three. The plot was boring and there were only two or three major events throughout the movie. This would have been fine, but the movie is 2 hours and 48 minutes long. It dragged on and on. By the end of the movie, it was apparent that the audience was getting restless and wished that every scene would be the last, yet there was always another useless scene to follow. I would recomend seeing the movie if you like the series as your opinions may be completely different from mine, but I would only give it a 5/10. -
Saving Whalom Park? Again???
jmicha replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have to completely disagree with Robb on this issue. Whalom Park used to be my home park until about 10 years ago when I moved to Ohio. The park was obviously not a world-class place, but everyone in the area around the park absolutely loved it. I didn't know a single person that hadn't been to the park or had a fond memory of riding the Flyer Comet or going through the funhouse. The problem, as stated before, was the serious lack of any management abilities. Nearly all the rides in the front of the park were rented out and over the years, this cost the park a great deal of its profits (if you could even call them profits). When the news of the park's closing came, it upset everyone I knew from Leominster, including those that weren't even into amusement parks. The park was a fun place to go with your family or friends on a summer night and the beach and waterslides were very enjoyable on hot summer days. I only lived in Leominster until I was nine, and every summer before that, my mother would take us to the beach at least four times a week. My entire family had season passes, and it was a great place to just relax. In the years since the closing of the park, I have heard from several families that they would love it if the park came back. That area is lacking in the entertainment department and I honestly tihink that if the park was rebuilt, it would be relative success.
