Honestly, why do people get so upset about these things. If you don't want your child seeing this type of violence or sex, then don't let them have the game. And if you don't want them seeing it online, block the websites that have it. Parents are getting lazy these days. If you don't want your kid doing something, don't let them. There's nothing more that I hate than when a parent lets their kid do anything they want, and then gets upset with the results. Just stop them from doing it, it's not hard. My parents did that, and it taught my two brothers and me how to act responsibly and act like adults in public at a young age.

JZ's Ongoing Kings Island Update Thread!
jmicha replied to PKI Jizzman's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just out of curiosity, where is the B&M manufacturing plant in Cinci? I'm down here for school, and was wondering how close it was. -
I think I'm going to go and get this game tonight...although that probably a bad idea as it will be a huge distraction. Oh well. So how long before some over-protective parent sues because of this game, despite the fact that it clearly has an M rating and is not intended for children?

^Unfortunately, that's never going to happen, as hard as we try to make people realize that no one on earth is the same and that there really is no such thing as "different" as there are no two people that are alike in any way, and aspects such race, gender, sexuality, nationality, etc. are just characteristics of people that are not always going to be the same. I've learned that if someone has a problem with me, then I don't need to be around them and just turn to my friends and family that do support me. It stinks that some people will not even give me a chance because I am gay, but if they feel that way, they are not the type of people I want to associate with anyways, so there really isn't any loss in the end.

I do think that there should be something to support and honor those supporting gay rights, yet a day of silence is not the right way to do it, in my opinion. I feel a gay awareness day where you learn, discuss, etc. about gay rights in your classes would be much more effective. That way, those who do choose to remain in the closet won't be holding up a flag screaming they're sexuality. They can also join in discussions about gay rights without revealing their sexuality if they are not ready to let everyone know they are gay or bisexual. Coming out is extremely hard (in most cases), yet doing it in an environment such as a school is usually not the best place to do it. One of the things I learned about coming out is that telling your closest friends first and building your own support group makes it easier when someone chooses to discriminate against you.
-
I personally am not really a big fan of the whole day-of-silence thing. I am openly gay (made the decision to come out once I got to college) now, but was not throughout high school, even to my best friends. I, however, think that it would be better to openly talk about it rather than making those who are still in the closet stand out and have the potential to be bullied by others who are too ignorant to realize that there are people different from them in this world. Discussing being gay or bisexual could potentially help others that don't understand to see both sides and possibly change their opinions. Silence cannot do this. One of the largest problems I always encountered in any discussion about homosexuality in school was when people that support homosexuality but are not gay saying that it is our choice. I, for one, never made a choice, and I make sure people realize this. It is not as if I woke up one day and went, "I think I'm going to be gay from now on." If I were to remain silent during a discussion about homosexuality, I would never be able to state my side on this very important matter.

One thing I certainly don't miss now that I am in college (minus my car) is paying for gas. My car gets decent gas mileage, about 25-30mpg, and I really don't drive all that much, but gas is expensive. However, I feel that the U.S. really needs to raise gas prices. I know that is the opposite of what people want, but we are the largest users of gasoline, and the majority of people are oblivious to the consequences of waiting until the natural gas reserves are completely exhausted. Putting off any action to become a much more fuel efficient country until we have no other options is a terrible idea. Now is the only time that we can make a relatively smooth transition to alternative forms of energy. There are so many opportunities out there right now for green energy, and the government really needs to have some sort of incentive to begin using green fuels. Driving a Prius isn't going to save the world. Larger actions need to be taken if we, as people not individual countries, want to continue to survive on this planet.

^Lol, just as empty as mine .

As You can see, I'm kind of a neat freak when it comes to my desktop. Anything more than my Mac and Windows hard drives on my desktop makes me uncomfortable and my dock will only ever have programs I use on a regular base showing. Yay for Hong Kong!

Top Thrill Dragster Line Music
jmicha replied to jmicha's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks both of you, colincoon got it. Now I can sleep easy . -
In this video, there's a song playing that I've heard several times in line for Dragster, and I cannot find the name of it for the life of me, and it is stuck in my head. Does anyone know the name of this song? Thank you in advance and if this topic is against the rules, I'm sorry. Delete it as soon as possible.

They really do gather water quickly. I remember on Dueling Dragons a few years ago that during a typical Florida rain storm, the wheel covers filled up and overflowed in the time that it took for the trains to go from the brake run to the unload station. Unfortunately for me, I sat on the outside and got a nice lap-full of water when we started up the lift hill. -

That's what I figured. And it doesn't help that the wheel covers on B&M inverts hold water so well. Nothing like getting a gallon of water dumped on you when entering the lift hill. -
Photo TR: KD opening Day/Dominator Construction
jmicha replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Dominator is looking good. I'm going to miss it being so close to my house, but Kings Dominion is a better home for it. Nothing can beat the scenic location it once had, however. The lake really added to the atmosphere of the ride and enhanced the experience. -

Does anyone know if the rust problem on Raptor comes from the track or the train? -

I'm not sure I'd voluntarily ride Dragster in the rain. I've ridden Millennium in a light rain and I have a slight feeling that riding Dragster in the rain would hardly be a fun experience. -

No offense, but I'm hardly saying that Cedar Point is a perfect park. I'm a huge fan of Cedar Point, but not a Cedar Point fanboy. The park has some severe problems (cost of parking, food, and merchandise, poor operations on several rides, occasional rude employees, terrible rain policy (like I said, I don't agree with it but I'll put up with it if it's there), complete disregard for nature, general attitude toward decreasing attendance, and many more that I don't feel like naming). But I still feel it is a great place to visit. I have fun on any ride. I feel that it is more about having fun with the people around you and enjoying a day at an amusement park. I don't need the world's most amazing rides to have fun. Some of my most memorable experiences at parks are riding kiddy coasters and just looking plain ridiculous. Is Cedar Point the best park on earth? Not by any means, but is it a great place to have fun and not have to worry about the real world for just a day? Hell yes. -

Yeah, but it's not the end of the world. Granted it is a nuisance having to wait several hours for rides to open after the rain has cleared, but you have to understand that they are trying to protect themselves from ever having to deal with a similar incident again. I personally don't feel the rain policy is necessary, especially on rides like Millennium Force and Maverick which use magnetic brakes, but it's a small price to pay to be able to visit such a wonderful park. -

jmicha replied to Loopy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The collision actually happened on the brake run. There are two sets of brakes on magnum, and the train slipped through the first and bumped the train sitting in the second. The train in the station was not affected by the incident. -
The way I see the situation with clones is that for some smaller parks in the chain, the extra cost of designing an original coaster could potentially make the difference of whether or not the park builds the ride. It makes more sense to put in a proven ride that will end up being cheaper because the design aspect has pretty much been taken care of.

^^Lol. SPOILER ALERT I don't understand why people were upset/surprised with the ending. From the instant the movie started, I guessed what was going to happen. The word choice makes it obvious that the film wasn't given to them by those who shot it. "Recovered from the area formerly known as Central Park" is hardly optimistic. END OF SPOILER Anywho, I really liked the movie. The way it was shot really enhanced the believable level of the movie. It was very easy to become attached to the characters and worry about their decisions. The movie was somewhat sad, yet it was a very realistic (well, as realistic as a giant monster movie can be) movie that deserves to make a lot of money. I wouldn't mind seeing it again and definitely recommend it to basically everyone. It has every aspect of what makes good movies. There's action, drama, love, etc. and really appeals to all audiences. I'd give it a 9.5/10

1997 Water World slide collapse
jmicha replied to speedracer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I also feel that this is in no way the fault of the park or lifeguard, but I wouldn't go as far as saying that the kids get what they deserve. Every single person on earth will make a decision at some point in their life that will be viewed by others as clear stupidity. This is one such event, but no 17 and 18 year olds deserve to be seriously injured or killed. Hopefully they have learned their lesson, but saying that a teenager with very little life experience deserves to watch their friends fall 40 feet to their death because of their actions is a little ridiculous. -
Whats The Weather Like Where You Live?
jmicha replied to RtherBOnACoaster's topic in Random, Random, Random
Where I actually live, it's only around 75, yet where I attend college (University of Cincinnati), it's around 91 degrees. Last week, there was a day in which there was a high of 97... hardly fall weather. -
Well, the launch isn't a constant acceleration, but to get a general idea, you can take the launch speed of 0-187.7ft./sec and divide that by the launch time of 3.5 seconds to get an average acceleration of about 53.6 ft./sec/sec which when divided by gravity, about 32.2 ft./sec, gives you an acceleration of 1.66 g's. For comparison, Dodonpa, the fastest accelerating coaster on earth, averages about 2.7 g's, whereas TTD averages 1.37 g's.
