  1. I can't help but wonder, however, how these economic times play a role. If this were at the height of the "coaster wars," would Big Dipper already have been moved and currently be operating somewhere else? I guess we'll never know.
  2. ^ What's funny is that in 2001 the complete opposite happened. Brady went down, and Bledsoe came in to beat the Steelers in the AFC Championship game. Ben has had the best offseason he has ever had. I think when he comes back they will become an instant top 5 team in the AFC, especially with the defense practically back in 2008 form. It's just a shame they play Baltimore once before he will come back, though. At least that's at home.
  3. Anyone get Halo Reach? My buddy got it and said it's decent, but he said it's mainly just something to whet his appetite until Black Ops comes out. After watching a bunch of videos it just looks like Halo 3 with some added features. Not so sure it's worth $60 either. I think Best Buy had a deal where you get a $20 gift card, but there aren't any BBs around me unfortunately, and it's back-ordered online.
  4. Jets DT Kris Jenkins is OFS with a torn ACL. HUGE loss.
  5. ^^^^ Well said. These are the 2010 awards, not the "all time" awards. While we'll never know exactly why someone rated something the way they did, unless they say so, I think rides should be rated based on their current, 2010 status'. It's nice that the Beast used to be a 'beast' back in the 80s, but that coaster already had its time to shine, and unless something is done to completely restore it back to 1980s form, I think it's time to move over, let some new coasters take the spotlight for a bit, and let go of the past, in my opinion. The nice thing about Mitch's Poll is if you haven't ridden the Beast since, say 1985, then that is taken into account. Also, regarding rating it on your best ride ever, this is how I do it, and I like this way a lot. Bear with me here, but I 'average' my rides, if you will. Obviously you can't average them like you do numbers (I guess technically you could if you break it down enough, but that's too time-consuming for me), but say I had only one excellent ride and nine average rides out of ten total on a certain coaster. Obviously my rating is going to lean more towards 'average' than it is 'excellent.' That's just my opinion.
  6. Couldn't have said it better. This is exactly my field of study in college, Safety. Technically the truck can be classified as a confined space, and he DEFINITELY should have had a mask on. That violated so many OSHA standards.
  7. It works up to a point, and if I've been using the computer and doing lots of stuff for a while, it's almost guaranteed it doesn't work and I have to re-boot. I hear you on that one. I have been having that type of problem since Windows 95. It's almost a given that if I leave my computer on all day, by the end of the day I can barely do anything because it's running so slow, and nothing seems to be working. It's not as bad now, because restarting isn't a chore like it used to be (it's still very annoying, don't get me wrong), but It used to REALLY irritate me way back when, because it took my computer 8 years to restart.
  8. If you don't care about using an exploit, there is a way to get around 93,000 CR and 51,000 XP in about 15-17 minutes. -Go to a private race. -Choose Benchmark A -Set it to 50 laps. -Set all AI cars. -Turn all assists off, the difficulty to hard, and simulation damage on. -Choose an R1 class car (preferably the best Peugeot car...which is a 997). -And then just complete the race. In Benchmark A, you can cut the corners and easily win, as the computers take the outside route all the way around. Just be careful not to hit anything, because it will really mess up your car on simulation damage, and you will either have to start over, or it will take much longer to complete. I had a little over 40,000 CR only a few days ago...now I'm up over 2 million.
  9. ^ I think it's very doable considering Balder was only $9-10m.
  10. Just reached level 50 on Forza 3. Now I can finally concentrate on just getting money, instead of XP also.
  11. Perhaps the newer type is only for increased speeds and forces? If this coaster is smaller and similar to Maverick, then maybe there is no need for the bulkier I305/Rossa track. ^ EDIT: beat me to it, but both of us posting the same thing at (almost) the same time just reinforces that more.
  12. ^ That would leave $35 million to use for whatever else...most likely including refurbishments of the current rides and coasters.
  13. Good to hear! However, it depends on your definition of marquee, but $8m isn't much wiggle room for a "marquee coaster," and won't buy you a marquee Intamin or B&M any time soon. It could be a GCI, Eurofighter, or a small steel from Premier or S&S like Kennywood's Sky Rocket, but I don't necessarily classify them as "marquee" (Eurofighter maybe, if done correctly). The only thing I could think of that would fit that term is a GG similar to the Voyage, which would definitely be interesting considering the two parks are so close.
  14. Not necessarily. The "make it or break it" rumor could have been true, but they "made it."
  15. ^ This isn't the first time the weight of the track has been discussed. Page 22 and page 46 are two of many instances. As already said, reinforced, and reiterated by BrandonR, and many many other people multiple times, this track weighs about the same!
  16. ^ I was thinking along those lines also. Maybe some new technology and/or concepts will be used?
  17. When was the last new Intamin drop tower built in the US? Has there been any since the SFKK accident? How about the world?
  18. Good to hear! I had heard rumors that they were thinking of adding a ride aimed at "thrillseekers." I'm glad they're adding two family rides also!
  19. ^ Actually, from what I remember, TTD ALWAYS had that 6th train sitting on the transfer. This is the first year I have not seen it there.
  20. ^^ I meant the fast food places that are found everywhere outside parks also. For example, don't say a certain park's food is bad when you're talking about a Subway, instead say the Subway chain's food is bad. Anyway, I've made my points, anything else I would just be repeating myself. As Robb said, I'm done discussing Cedar Point in this thread, unless it somehow relates to GL.
  21. I know it has prefabricated track, but a steel? Not so sure about that one. To each his own I guess, though. Nice trip report!
  22. I go to Cedar Point every year, sometimes multiple times per year, and NEVER have trouble riding everything, you just have to use common sense on when to go (and that applies to any park, not just Cedar Point). Obviously don't go on a Saturday in the middle of July. The last time I checked, Kennywood's prices were on par with most parks. Tickets are $30+ unless bought from Giant Eagle, and Cedar Point's are in the upper $30s with a coupon (that comes in the FREE Getaway Guide ANYONE can request). I'm more than happy paying ONLY an extra $10-$15 for 10 more coasters and too many more rides to count. Regarding food, I paid about the same (I think it was even more) for the same general meal at Kennywood, as I did at Cedar Point this summer. Cedar Point's food quality is self-explanatory. They have a Subway, Chik-Fil-A, Panda Express, Johnny Rocket's, Coasters, etc. How could you even have high expectations for any of those places to begin with to be "disappointed by the quality?" Most of them are places found everywhere, so you should already know what you like and don't like. Even with that said, I think Cedar Point's restaurant selection is the one of the (if not THE) best out of all Cedar Fair parks I have been to. Lastly, you'll drive 4 hours round trip to Kennywood in a heartbeat (which will cost you more as far as gas and tolls are concerned), but are complaining about the cost of 3 hours round trip to Cedar Point? -FeelThe "Doesn't make sense to me." FORCE
  23. Thanks, I read your reply shortly after you posted it, but have been swamped with school, so I haven't had a chance to try it yet. I'll post back here if I have any more questions.
  24. The Mantis crew pumps out trains pretty quickly. Fast times are doable if the crew actually cares and does their job efficiently.
