  1. The system on TTD is fail safe. The default position is up, they need to apply force to pull the brakes down. So if the ride loses power, the brake fins will always return to the up position. Yep . . . true. Did anyone make it over to Cp for opening weekend? If so, how was it? I'm headed there later this week for my second ever CP trip. I will be going Thursday and Friday, when are you going?
  2. No, it's spelled with an E, trust me.
  3. I know it does, but the correct spelling is with an E, not an A. I'm just curious if they did this on purpose or not, that's all.
  4. Did they spell cemetery wrong on purpose?
  5. I picked Intamin. All Intamins I have been on were smooth, whereas all the B&Ms I have been on, the older ones were pretty rough. TTD is smooth, MF is smooth, WT is smooth, Xcelerator is smooth, S: TE is smooth...on to the B&Ms, Mantis is very rough, Dominator is semi-rough, SCREAM! is rough, and Raptor is rough going into the final brakes. All I can think of right now.
  6. Exactly, because of the magnets. Same happens with TTD on a rollback, the magnets cause it to slow down whether there is power or not and slowly drift back into the launch position (unless they lower them below the track) because the track is slightly tilted upward.
  7. The LSMs on the lift only propel the train in one direction, they actually act as brakes if the train were to roll backwards, and since they're magnetic they'll work in the event of a power failure. Pretty sure they don't work without electricity. No, but magnetism doesn't need electricity to "work". That's what astat was saying. If the LSMs were to fail because of a power failure, the train would stop because of the magnets.
  8. 1 ) Cedar Point 2 ) Six Flags Magic Mountain 3 ) Busch Gardens Europe 4 ) Kennywood 5 ) Hershey Park 6 ) Disney World 7 ) Kings Island 8 ) Knotts Berry Farm 9) Vegas Rides (not really a "park" but, oh well) 10 ) Idlewild (couldn't think of any more )
  9. Kennywood is far from my favorite park. It's a great park, but every year I go, I seem to get bored after only a few hours. Mainly because it's the same thing every year, nothing (or very little) has changed. When KW gets a new coaster, it will move up in my rankings
  10. For some reason I can't see anyone's CF sig...not even my own. I checked and the picture isn't blocked or anything. It worked for the longest time and I haven't changed the code at all, can anyone help me and tell me what's wrong? Thanks, I appreciate it. Once again, I apologize if this is in the wrong place.
  11. Yeah, I am so pumped because it will be nice! The last 3 years I went it has been in the 40s and raining. It is supposed to be nice all through the week (I am going Thurs. and Fri.). I can't wait to finally have a 70 degree day with no rain!! What I like too, is that after all the schools leave, around 1.5-2 hours before closing, the park is EMPTY and you basically have almost every ride to yourself.
  12. I was talking about the sharp top of the first drop, but I guess that is not the part being modified. I know you were, and so was I. I was saying that couldn't they just make it so you go up the hill a little slower? Instead of having to add brakes?
  13. Does this mean that the drop might be altered, too? I wondered how a 3-car train could manage to be safely launched over a 95-degree drop. If the train went just a little bit too fast, that could cause some dangerous forces for the back-seat riders. I can easily see them modifying that part to put in some brakes. Instead of brakes, couldn't they just make the launch a little slower?
  14. This is the only one I've seen: BTW, when did the park announce it would be open for the 12th? I don't think I ever saw that. I saw the media day announcement, but never a date set for an official "opening day" for the public. --Robb They stated it will in the Maverick FAQ (as stated earlier) and they also said it a few times in the blog.
  15. I'm a little disappointed, especially after the way they teased us about Maverick before it was announced. But, I will still be going next Thursday and Friday nonetheless. But, you gotta do what you gotta do, and if it's for safety reasons, then I'm not that mad. I'm thinking about going again in July or August, but that would mean tons more crowds and no hotel room (parents wouldn't be going) and I would have to drive 3 hours just for one day at the park, then drive home at night, so that most likely won't happen It's not like they don't have any other coasters or anything, I will still enjoy myself very much. Another reason I'm not really that mad is that I will be going to GADV and DP this summer for the first time, so there will be tons of rides I haven't ridden.
  16. Yeah, I'm glad they extend it to an hour before, but for those going early May up to the 24th, the park closes at 7 now instead of 8. I think that's pretty stupid because now people, like me, who get the package where you get 1 night of starlight and 1 full day, only have 3 hours for starlight. But the good thing is, that they don't cut off the line for some rides (Dragster especially) a few hours before the park closes, they cut it off right when it closes, and if they have to be there until 10, then so be it, they will be there until 10. I remember a few years back when I went back to my room after the park had closed (Dragster was right out my window). I heard them launching for a good 3 more hours after the park had closed. That's when it closed at 8, so that would have been 11 that they stopped.
  17. Oh, it will be. Weekdays in May, every ride is a walk-on. May isn't technically the "summer", though, it's still the spring, so you're probably right. Untrue. I go every May on a weekday and while most are less than a ten minute wait, some rides may have waits up to an hour, MF and TTD most notably. Hmm. I have been going every May the Thursday and Friday after opening day for the past 5 years, and I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes for anything. But then again, every year it has been cold and/or rainy, so that could play a big factor.

  19. Yeah, that's a pretty neat piece of scenery. They say that there is still one more thing that they haven't announced yet. I wonder what it could be?
  20. King Cobra (PKI), X-Flight (GL), Steel Venom (GL)
  21. King Cobra, it was my first looping coaster and first stand-up as well.
  22. It's not so much that they don't care, as it is that the community is too small to have an amusement park.
  23. Phantom's revenge at Kennywood back in August 2006.
  24. Yeah!!! I only rode it once when I went there last summer, but that's all it takes!
  25. I can't wait to go there in May! I am just hoping they will have no problems early on and I will be able to ride it. And, of course, I hope it won't rain like it has the last 4 times I have gone.
