Rye Playland Discussion Thread
coasterbill replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Playland is actually my home park. The Dragon Coaster was my first big roller coaster and the kiddy coaster was my first roller coaster period. I'm sure just about everyone who grew up in the Putnam / Dutchess / Westchester areas can say the same. I do think that pricing is an issue... they charge $30.00 for one day and their ride collection isn't that great. The Wild Mouse is forgettable, the Dragon coaster is ruined by it's trains, the Flying coaster is obviously terrible and that's it for the coasters. I like the park but they price themselves like a great thrill park yet offer mediocre thrill rides. It's a nice family park, and they should price themselves as such. This is not the park that we grew up with where the whole family could go and spend the day... maybe ride a few rides and not spend too much money. They've priced families out and it's sad because almost every Westchester family has great memories of Playland. I don't pretend to know how to run an amusement park, and even if they do lower prices and switch back to a ticket / fun card system it may not be enough to make the park profitable but if they made it accessible to families again then I don't think many people would care about having to subsidize it. It's a historical treasure and it's a huge part of the culture of Westchester county. I haven't heard anyone complain about subsidizing it (We've been doing that for YEARS) but I would hear a TON of people complain if they ever closed it. Playland is a public park. Every other public park costs us money and nobody cares if they pull their own weight. Why does Playland have to? It only cost each Westchester Household $12.00 last year and I'm yet to hear anyone complain about it. -

Good idea but if it doesn't have flame-throwers I'm really not interested. -

Amazing work! That's unbelievable! -
I can answer some of those that aren't SFMM specific... About re-riding... lol, of course you'll piss people off. People get in the stations and count out groups so they get to ride together and then when someone re-rides it screws it all up. The question is, is pissing people off a pro or a con to getting it? lol With the platinum pass, yes, you can go back and re-ride again but the q-bot needs to "wait in line" again. As far as X2 I don't know. When X was new, they didn't even offer fastlane on it (that was back when they just gave you tickets). As far as Superman, I'm guessing the lack of flash pass is probably due to the relatively low capacity and the high demand they are expecting. That's just a guess though, I could be wrong on it.

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

I don't think About.com cares about the legitimacy of the polls. I think they just want to drive traffic by making the site interactive. This is NOT the presidential election. It's a poll that's there for fun and it's not a big deal if people rode them all or not. -

I've never ridden it and I'm sure it's good. I'm just saying... look at the competition. Do they REALLY think it deserved more votes? -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
coasterbill replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love what Hershey and Kings Island are doing. First of all, it's brilliant marketing. But second of all they're HAVING FUN with the enthusiasts. It's the theme park business... so they're in the business of having fun. If I were them I would be doing the same thing. So they're advertising the park, big deal? It's a win-win situation. They feed them "information" so their site gets traffic and they give Hershey some more exposure. If it works out for everyone, then what's the problem? Nothing wrong with companies advertising and nothing wrong with people having fun. If you'd like to stay out of this wild goose chase that they're sending us on then you're free to do so. -

They never really said it was inferior, they just want us to think that Sky Rocket deserved more votes than it got. I think they're on crack personally because if you picked Sky Rocket over the fastest coaster in the world, a giga coaster and a B&M megacoaster then you're insane. -

This may not matter but he's standing behind racer in that video. Go to 0:15 and pause as it cuts away. You can clearly make out the location. -

Looking at the teaser photos... I'm pretty sure they're just screwing with us. I'm willing to bet they have nothing to do with anything and they're probably laughing their asses off reading this thread right now. Kudos to them, I'd do the same thing. -

My uncle has a house in Ticonderoga and about ten years ago we all went up there for a weekend and went to Great Escape. We waited for what seemed like an hour with very few people in front of us. The ride was forgettable, it wasn't bad but it was nothing special either... definitely not worth the ridiculously slow moving wait in line.
