  1. Wouldn't they see the great lengths people go to to make ride huts invisible in RCT2 and realize some people really hate them? People routinely get a trainer, build a dummy coaster and a scenery track under each, re-color the land, raise the land, put an invisible scenery piece underground, lower the land, make the dummy ride invisible and then re-color the land and delete the dummy ride while now having to use map object manipulation to raise the land again and zero clearance to build anything on the tile and people go through all of that just so they can avoid those dumb huts. I hope they give you the option not to have them because their fans have made it obvious that they really hate them.
  2. I want to echo that... I like Intimidator quite a bit. It won't be making many top 10 lists but it's a really solid ride and is easily my second favorite coaster in the park after Afterburn.
  3. We went out to Long Island yesterday to ride Hurricane as we'd never been to Adventureland before and figured this was a good time to go. We only live "90 minutes away" according to Google (if you've ever been to Long Island you know how funny that is) but have never been there because going to Long Island is usually a nightmare. Like most New Yorkers we haven't done any of the big tourist spots in New York (Montauk point, Niagra Falls, the Statue of Liberty...) so we figured it was time to head out to the Island and see what it had to offer. We decided to make a day of it and actually made it out to Adventureland with "only" an hour's worth of traffic delays. The park itself is pretty nice and it's amazing how much they managed to cram into a small area. Tickets are pretty expensive here with the major rides being between 4 and 5$ each so we only rode the 2 coasters and the haunted house. We would have rode the flume but it seemed to be closed for the season. We don't ride kiddy coasters for credits but the family coaster here seemed respectable enough to take it for a ride without any shame and it was actually pretty good. The park added a tunnel and some nice landscaping around it which made it a pretty cool experience... the park is tiny but you can tell the owners take a lot of pride in it. Next we rode the haunted house which was awful. We knew it would be but had to see for ourselves... this is only worth a ride if you have a wristband or if you're completely hammered. Finally we went over to the Hurricane. We were excited to ride it since I grew up with the one at Rye Playland and haven't ridden one in a long time. Unlike the one that used to run in Rye it was a very enjoyable ride... the lap bars were a great modification by the park. It's a shame they're getting rid of this ride, I have a hard time believing the new coaster can be an improvement on this but I guess we'll wait and see. I have to say as much as we enjoyed the park one really strange thing happened though that left a bad taste in our mouths. I had remembered that Hurricane coasters feature a pretty awesome twisting drop mid-way through the ride that provides a great experience in the back seat and since we were only going to ride it once we wanted to make sure we sat there. The ride was a walk on but we asked the operator if we could wait for the back seat on the next train (we were the only people in line but 2 kids were sitting in the back). He proceeded to make the kids sitting in the back get up and move to the front of the train. I could tell the operator didn't understand english very well (which is totally fine with me) so I tried to explain nicely that we didn't want to make the kids move and would gladly wait for the next train. He just yelled "you... there" and pointed to the back seat so we felt pretty awful about making the kids move and didn't really enjoy the ride as much as we should have. The man also checked everyone's lap bar 3 times and at one point went into the control booth to look for a sign for the new coaster and hold it up so everyone on the train could see it before checking our restraints a 3rd time. The whole thing was really bizarre. After that we went out to Montauk which was supposed to be 90 minutes away but it ended up taking us a little over 2 hours. Not too bad for Long Island... If you're going out of your way for Adventureland this is probably a worthy add on as they let you up in the lighthouse and the scenery on the tip of the island is incredible. Be warned though that you should never do this in the summer or on a weekend. The return trip was amazingly awful...It took us 4 1/2 hours to get off the Island and as much as we enjoyed our day the traffic was a bit of a bummer. Still... I recommend checking this park out and making a day out of it so you can visit some other popular sports on Long Island. Just give yourself a lot of extra time. There was one point in Eastern Long Island that it took us 90 minutes to go 2 1/2 miles. I'm not joking.
  4. Cedar Point has always done that on Friday's in September and October and they make sure everyone is very aware of it. I don't have a problem with parks closing rides early or not opening them if they tell their guests about it ahead of time before they buy their tickets. And if the park is open until Midnight then the rides should be too because that's how it works in pretty much every other park. I know Kennywood was brought up earlier but they don't post closing times so I don't see that as an issue either.
  5. ^^^ I still list Millennium Force as my #1 coaster, ahead of rides like El Toro, Skyrush, I305, Maverick, Bizarro, Kumba and a ton of other awesome rides. It's feeling of relentless speed throughout such a long ride is absolutely unmatched in the front and in the back I love the feeling of ripping through the overbanks. Unlike I305 it's also built right near trees, buildings and now dinosaurs so the sensation of speed is amplified even more. I know it's not a popular opinion but I've never ridden a coaster anywhere near as awesome as Millennium Force. Every year I go after riding awesome coasters everywhere else thinking maybe everyone is right and maybe the ride isn't that great and then I ride it and realize that it's still completely amazing in every single way. I do agree that Magnum is overrated but at the same time I do understand why people like it. I feel like there are coasters with more extreme and more comfortable airtime but if you want a ride that takes you from sitting in your seat to flying into the restraint with absolutely no warning whatsoever then you can't beat Magnum's airtime hills in the tunnels. Riding through the darkness knowing that at any second you're going to be launched into the bar immediately with no warning makes the ride and it's triangular hills pretty unique. I think the ride's really painful and would much rather ride airtime coasters like Phoenix or El Toro but I do understand why Magnum has it's rabid fans. With those rides you can see and feel the hill start to crest and know the airtime is coming. With a few of Magnum's hills it just comes out of nowhere.
  6. People (on the last page) still want to get rid of Iron Dragon, one of the most popular rides in the entire park just because enthusiasts don't like it? Read it and weep... Iron Dragon is one of the most popular rides in the park and does more guests than Maverick and Top Thrill Dragster. Is capacity a big reason why? Sure... but Iron Dragon's line is almost always spilling out the entrance of the queue despite that capacity and it has mass appeal. I don't see this ride going anywhere in the near future.
  7. What if those hours are being saved for busier days during FF when a ride like Ka is approaching a 2 hour wait at park closing and they need to extend the employee schedules? Fine, but then don't say the park is open until Midnight. Do what you did last year and say it's open until 11 and if you're crowded announce that the park will remain open until Midnight. I had never heard of this happening at Six Flags until recently but ever since they reported down attendance there are reports coming from everywhere that the park is closing rides early (They close the Log Flume hours before the park closes now even on the day we went where the line at night was over an hour long), running rides at reduced capacity (Skyway) and cutting lines off before park closing. This has been happening at Six Flags New England too. The fact is Cedar Fair would never do this without at least posting signs and letting guests know that a ride may close early and as I said earlier many parks leave rides open late as a grace period. There is no reason Six Flags can't continue to operate their parks in the same way.
  8. I know I keep saying this but this company is clueless and while Six Flags and Cedar Fair are often referred to on about the same level it's really an insult to Cedar Fair. Six Flags will do anything possible to save a few bucks and they seem to have no interest whatsoever in customer satisfaction. It wasn't this way early in the year and it really doesn't seem like a coincidence that these insane cost cutting measures of closing rides early and cutting capacity everywhere really started happening after they reported lower attendance figures. I'm no expert but as a customer of theirs it seems like they're desperately trying to do anything they can to report revenue growth and don't care about park guests at all. They'll cut anything they can get away with cutting. Cedar Fair on the other hand isn't freaking out or doing anything differently and still has the grace period policy in place in many parks where they leave rides open a few minutes after park closing so people can get one last ride in. Cedar Point does this on just about all of their coasters... even on the lower profile ones. When you compare that to this new policy at Six Flags it's flat out infuriating. Again... I'm speculating and I'm on the outside looking in but it seems like Six Flags is seeing fluctuations in the industry and freaking out about them while Cedar Fair sees the same fluctuations and isn't freaking out at all (probably because these kinds of fluctuations are nothing new and there's no reason to freak out like Six Flags is). I never like to speculate this much but this is what it feels like from a consumer standpoint.
  9. There's no reason to think the trim would be removed. Even if they're not going to use it, why would they remove it when they could much more easily just turn it off? Plus once they remove it then it's a big undertaking to put it back if they decide it would improve the ride experience. I'm guessing that they'll either just leave the trim or test it with the trims on and off to see what provides a better experience.
  10. Really people? I think it's implied that it was just a figure of speech / exaggeration.
  11. Okay so I know this is a thread about Street View and not Aerial view but I just noticed this and had to share. Kings Island has updated the aerial view to be from this year. https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=39.342734,-84.26367&spn=0.001352,0.001878&t=h&z=19 And as I looked around I noticed that it looks like the park just opened so Banshee and Diamondback have long lines but most of the park is dead. Then I looked at the area by Flight of Fear and saw there was nobody there which I thought was strange until I saw the firetrucks parked by the coaster. Great timing Google. lol
  12. The best hot dogs in New York are from the guys in the street. Just try not to think about it and enjoy the food lol.
  13. Knoebels 20 second dispatch. Skip to 4:19
  14. It would be a shame to wait for the expansion packs to come out if they end up like Wacky Worlds and Time Twisters though. Those were pure crap and the custom scenery the users made was much better than anything in either of those. Not every RCT game had good expansion packs.
  15. I always thought Boulder Dash was a really good but extremely overrated ride. I'm thinking of stopping by the Haunted Graveyard for some night rides so maybe I can see why everyone hypes it up so much. I like the ride but I don't see how it beat Phoenix in the Mitch Hawker poll... I always thought Phoenix was miles ahead of this ride in every possible way but I really want to see what I'm apparently missing out on.
  16. I'm way more excited for this ride than I should be. I just can't believe they're actually doing this... it has the potential to start a great trend and any trend that leads to less stand up coasters is an awesome one.
  17. Another great update. It looks like you had a great time in NYC (then again it seems like you have a great time no matter what you're doing which is awesome).
  18. Why do they always close Flight of Fear for a terrible maze? I think I speak for everyone when I say that we'd prefer they leave Flight of Fear open all night. It's one of the more popular coasters in the park.
  19. So they could put two hand-me-down coasters right next to each other! Joking aside, I would take Laser any day of the week over Stinger, no questions, but I find it hard to believe people genuinely enjoyed it more than Talon/Hydra/Steel Force. I could remember having some rough rides on it. To each their own I suppose. I enjoy all of those coasters but Laser was better than all of them. Not only was Laser amazingly smooth (you had rough rides on Laser, really?) but it caused riders to grey out in the double loops and was just pretty much an amazing and intense piece of awesome. When you consider the fact that it's in a park that desperately lacks intense coasters with the exception of maybe Posessed it just made it even better. Steel Force and Hydra are fun rides don't get me wrong... but they're not very forceful at all. Steel Force is the weakest hyper I've ever ridden and while I like it a lot if you're not in the front seat the ride experience is about as thrilling as driving to the park on I-78. Hydra is fun but nothing close to Laser. Laser was smoother and infinitely more intense. Talon and Laser is a close matchup. Both are great coasters but just because of the incredible forces Laser pulled I have to give it the edge. To each his own but this isn't me pretending a coaster was better than it was just because it's gone now... Laser was legitimately a really, really awesome ride. Stinger is crap. Edit: Then again that's just my opinion and I don't expect anyone to agree with it. As I've said before after Talon I consider Thunder Creek Mountain and Demon Drop to be the best rides in the park... so I don't really follow along with the opinion of the majority. lol
  20. I could see this too... they're very small for floorless coasters but if the ride experience is improved and popularity increases for Mantis / Rougarou I could see them doing the same things with these coasters either in their current locations or moving them to new parks and adding new trains. Moving either coaster to a park like Michigans Adventure and putting new trains on it would probably be a great move as the park would get a high quality coaster with a minimal investment.
  21. I endorse this statement. I've never seen a park replace a coaster that good and that reliable with a ride that terrible and unreliable. I have no idea what they were thinking. Laser is easily better than any coaster they have now.
  22. Everyone is of course entitled to their opinion but... Shouldn't you sort of ride those before passing judgement? I mean... it's not like you skipped Corkscrew, Mantis and Woodstock's Express... you haven't ridden 3 of their top attractions (one of which is still considered the best steel coaster in the world in a lot of coasters polls). That would be like me saying Great Adventure is just alright but I haven't ridden El Toro, Kingda Ka or Nitro.
