  1. Do you mean correct? It is a not harder way of saying wasn't wrong! Is it too early to start drinking? I should buy the title fairy a drink too. She was right about you.
  2. I'm still trying to figure out if this guy has said anything about the park that WASN'T wrong.
  3. Actually this wouldn't be an awful thing either now that I think about it. Yes, the crowds at night will be huge but the event is really amazing. We went last year and were blown away. If you haven't been to a big budget haunt like Universal I would almost suggest going out of your way for it if you're into that kind of thing. We were used to small regional park haunts (Six Flags Fright Fest, Halloweekends... things like that) and this is on an entirely different level. Since you'll be in Florida in October I'd suggest that or HHN if it works with your schedule.
  4. Oh my god, are you sure you don't want to go to Knoebels instead?
  5. Well damn, there's no way I can shoehorn Knoebels into this one. I'm of no help. Peace out thread.
  6. I would think it would be bull*** busy. You should invest in that terrible skip the line pass they have.
  7. The main thing I'm interested in with this announcement is the fate of Race For Your Life Charlie Brown. Personally, I think this park needs a log flume more than it needs a GCI, so if they remove the ride I'll be really disappointed. That being said, if we get to have our cake and eat it too then I'll be thrilled.
  8. I'm not sure I understand this. How can they be available to only season pass holders? The game has no way of knowing who has a pass. Yeah I was confused by this too. Also 70 Pokestops? That's ridiculously impressive.
  9. So much this... and sit in the back of Montu also. It'll try to kill you (in a good way).
  10. This was my first thought also. I think it's stupid and would ride without it most times but I wouldn't care at all if Dorney had VR.
  11. I guess its not technically on the piers so its not park food but we're gonna eat all kinds of pizza when you're in Wildwood. Brace yourself. I'm bracing.
  12. That hill was a problem was very slow a few times but a valley would be the most likely on the helix up to the midcourse or the previous hill. The helix is an upward helix and there were a few times by the top of it we weren't sure if the train was still rolling forward. We did at one point see them grab it with those brakes as it started rolling back but the front of the train was in the brakes. I guess at that point they winched it. That was actually on opening weekend last year though, not during Holiday in the Park. I'm not sure how they did that... maybe with an Estop that (I would think) would just activate all the brakes. Honestly that park has some pretty clever "valley prevention" techniques. On El Toro at the end of the night they roll a train almost all the way out of the station but stop it on the last drive tire as it's heading downhill. Then they park the next one in the station (with riders) which puts it just a few inches behind the other train, then they roll them both backwards into the brakes and the station to avoid sending an empty train at the end of the night. I'm pretty sure they just learned that trick recently.
  13. I'll keep it in mind but I'll probably stick to good southern food when I'm down there. I can get good pizza at home so I usually gorge myself on smoked food and BBQ down south. They blow us away in that department.
  14. I never have any desire to eat pizza at U.S. parks (besides Knoebels). I'm far too much of a pizza snob to waste a meal at Dollywood on that when I could go to Lillian's or one of the skillet places. So far I've yet to have a decent pizza south of the Mason Dixon line.
  15. Is there a row you recommend for the most fun, and are there required defensive riding positions? I may have followed your advice on MS last month and may or may not have had a blast, so much so that possibly took several spins on it. I don't think it's a thing you can brace for, I think it's all about height / body type. That seems to be the consensus on standups. I like it but your mileage may vary. I do like the front "seat" though. I like the fact that Vortex is such a short ride, most standups become an endurance contest. Usually the drop and loop are great and then it all goes to hell. This one is short and sweet. Oh and speaking of the Mean Streak trick... it also applies on Hurler at Carowinds.
  16. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I hate every other standup coaster but I legitimately enjoy Vortex. It's not a "must-ride" but I have zero complaints about the ride and have fun every time I ride it.
  17. This is accurate. Personally I'd get the Quick Queue unlimited so you have more time for re-rides, you can ride the flume / rapids without waiting (it gets very hot this time of year) and you have more time to take it slow and enjoy the animal exhibits and shows. You'll have no issue doing everything in a day though.
  18. Except you know... the blueprints for the entire ride
  19. I actually agree a little bit with both of you. They're adding some much needed flat rides next year which is good, because aside from Plants vs Zombies and Boo Blasters (which are mediocre but at least they get you out of the heat and are mildly entertaining), the one flats I really ever bother with are Windseeker, Southern Star and maybe the Enterprise. I'd love to see them keep adding flats, something like Delirium at KD would be a very welcome sight. The coaster selection drops off a lot after the big three and they can correct that down the road but the one glaring thing that this park needs is a Log Flume. It's way too hot not to have a water ride that gets you wet without soaking you to the bone. I generally find splash boats and rapids to be an unpleasant level of soaking. I have no doubt that a flume would be incredibly popular at Carowinds.
  20. I know I said I was leaving but while I'm no expert and I'm becoming what I hate by speculating with no knowledge of what I'm talking about (though hopefully I at least get some credit for admitting that unlike most people), but I think this is 100% accurate. Nitro struggled to get going quite a bit during Holiday in the Park. Early in the day (especially on windy days), the ride was laughably close to valleying. We went the Saturday before Christmas and it was in the high 30's with high winds (small craft advisory, gale warning, 50 MPH winds... you name it) and we had already assumed Nitro would be closed. When we pulled in we saw them sending trains because that's how Six Flags rolls, and they were front loading them and only allowing riders in the first 4 rows. The ride crawled, so much so that on most cycles the ride ops would watch the train until it reached the midcourse (often laughing or looking deeply concerned, there was no in between) before even loading the one we were in. On a few cycles we probably hit the midcourse at 1 or 2 MPH. The issue is probably valleying and the low temperatures causing the rides to run slow. This was only noticeable at Nitro. All the rides had a fast set of wheels on them (per Ryan, a ride op and TPR's resident Great Adventure coaster expert) and Batman, Green Lantern and Superman all seemed to be running normally (except Batman which was running at ludicrous speeds even with near empty trains, it was awesome). Once the rides warmed up though and ran for an hour or so they ran much faster, usually at night even when the temps got really low Nitro got up to the point where the midcourse kicked on. So I'd assume that the reason for the temperature limits is mechanical and has to do with the trains completing the circuit. The absolute worst case scenario would have been that they went out and had to evacuate the first few rows of riders off the train which isn't a safety issue. I'm 100% guessing but based on what we saw they seemed to run much better as the day went on, and in the case of SFSTL if they use the same wheels on Batman you're in for a treat. And once again, I acknowledge that I'm speaking out of my a**. This is nothing more than an assumption, but I can guarantee that if safety was an issue then the park wouldn't do it. To suggest they would is ridiculous.
  21. So you are celebrating a company disregarding safety measures put in place by the manufacturer? I give up. It's clear someone pissed in your cornflakes this morning and you'll find a negative response to everything Six Flags does. I have my issues with the chain but good lord...
  22. It should also be noted that at SDC you have to worry about temperature limits on the coasters. Six Flags on the other hand ignores them entirely. Nitro was dispatching train after train even when it dipped into the high 20's. They never closed a single ride during the entire event for low temps so if you're into rides, score one for Six Flags.
  23. woodstock express 10/10 would recommend
