Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
coasterbill replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Still X-Works popping up for Kings Dominion is very interesting. 1) I Googled X-Works. It did not bring up King's Dominion. 2) They've been using "X-Works" on new B&M's forever. Here they thought it meant Silverwood (in 2009). Here they thought "X-Works" meant it was a dueling dragons clone (in 2010). Tons of new B&M's say "X-Works" and despite the fact that it means nothing of interest, enthusiasts still think it's a clue. 3) You're not getting sh*t. -

Maybe (that was just the prevailing rumor), but they still haven't done any visible work near the clearing for about a month and it's in a really stupid place for a new ride. -

Yeah, for fireworks. They haven't touched it in about a month. -
Oldest Coaster You've Ridden

You lose. I felt like a loser because I had to go twice to ride it. By the way, I love that it's officially "sh*t on Lakemont" day. If I had it my way that would be every day but I'd imagine some person who was desperate to show us that they enjoyed "misunderstood classic amusement parks" more than we do would get all pissy. -
Not only is this entirely accurate but it's also exactly what we did. The first time we went to the park we had planned on spending a few hours in the park and going to a Curve game but since just about everything was closed and the park sucked so much we just got pissed off and went to Knoebels instead where we (of course) had an amazing time. The only problem was that we then had to go back to this hell hole in order to ride Leap the Dips.

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

There's been a lot of incessant bitching about how the park is "due" for a new coaster or some crap but no actual signs of them getting one or meaningful discussion. -
I love the title of this report. I'm glad someone else shares my utter disdain for Lakemont park. I love classic parks. I thought Del Grossos was great and Knoebels is my favorite park anywhere but I feel like people look at all classic parks through rose colored glasses even when they suck and need to be put out of their misery like Lakemont and Conneaut. Regarding Del Grossos... yeah, Larson drop towers are amazing. They actually have a pretty nice flat ride collection and the spinning coaster was fun. My one takeaway was the Paratrooper which looks nothing like any other Paratrooper I've ever seen and has a lap bar that doesn't lock and only stays down if you hold it down. Just sitting there normally results in the lap bar completely opening. I can't believe that thing exists in America (even though the Paratrooper is really tame compared to the other ones). And I-99 is stunning. I love the drive to Del Grossos.

I honestly feel like I'm being a bit conservative. It's possible to be pleasantly surprised and if that is what ends up happening it does seem like a smaller investment than they've made in the last few years. Generally there would be a major investment in a large scale (probably B&M) coaster somewhere but I just don't see where that would fit in this year as usually by this point it's quite obvious where it's going.

Im staying in Baltimore for the weekend and already bought tickets to Yankees vs Orioles. I live 45 min from Gadv. Im gonna go to SFA. I can always go back next year need be. Just stay in the inner harbor and drink and ignore SFA. Remember these 3 things. Natty Boh, Orange Crushes, Old Bay Make those 3 things a part of everything you do in the Inner Harbor and you'll have an amazing weekend. Let's go O's. PS: At Camden Yards / Orange Crushes are called Camden Crushes and the thing they call an Orange Crush is an imposter. I'm a beer guy but trust me... Camden Crush right under the scoreboard on Eutaw Street.

"Be sure to ride it first to start your day off in the best way possible". Is this a joke? I feel like the person that wrote this was audibly laughing when they wrote it. I can't think of many worse ways to start my day than by riding f**king Apocalypse. That's right up there with "accidentally backing over a beloved family pet in the driveway in your haste to get to work in the morning" or "getting into a car wreck in the parking lot of the office and realizing the guy in the other car was your boss". ... okay maybe I'm exaggerating JUST a tad.

Not all teenagers are bad trust me I'm gonna make sure we're hitting capacity I just had to go put two and two together to make sure you were the same guy but you know what's funny? I saw your posts about Great Adventure recently and a few others and thought your age was a typo. Especially considering some of the idiotic posts from certain other posters your age or even much older. Between the proper grammar and quality posts I'm impressed. Keep doing your thing. -

Yeah we were there the same exact day then. Memorial Day 2 years ago. We didn't know until we got to the gate either. And Del Grossos was a great surprise for us too. We expected Lakemont to be the better of the 2 parks but Del Grossos was much nicer, much busier and much better. -

Okay... still insane but I've got to call bull****. At the beginning they hoist them all the way up but at the 40 second mark I really don't feel like they were anywhere near the top when they dropped him for the shot he actually made. -

Yeah we did too. I think it was Memorial Day and aside from Leap the Dips everything was free. -

Random tip but ride Gemeni on the weekend. They probably won't have the staffing to race it on those weekdays. -

I don't know, but ultra specific predictions are stupid.
