Miracleman
On June 4, I visited Six Flags Over Texas armed with my new camera and it was one of my best trips yet. Lines were minimal, It wasn't too hot (for Texas), and the Oil Derrick Observation Tower was open. I'm not going to go into great detail about the park here (as I'm sure many are already familiar with the OG Six Flags) However, there is one bit of rather distressing news for long time Six Flags Over Texas visitors. They changed the Pink Things!!! The Good: Pink Things are now only $1. The Bad: They are no longer the conical treats, but rather cylindrical push pop style things in a cardboard tube. The Ugly: They are no longer cherry, but cotton candy flavored. I was honestly too disgusted to even take a picture of the new "treat". Apparently, Six Flags switched vendors from Blue Bell (who make good frozen treats) to Nestle (who make cotton candy flavored goo). This didn't ruin an otherwise great visit, but I still often wonder about the people that make such decisions at Six Flags. Anyhow, on to the pictures: Here we are. at Six Flags over Texas. What to ride first, decisions, decisions. Seriously, Runaway Mine train is fun. Where are we again? Oh yeah, France. Look, I can see the Eiffel Tower from France. Did you know Ms. Pacman was French? A Cannon shot with a Nikon. (Photography humor). The Runaway Mountain sign was misting. It was a better ride today than I could remember, and it was a walk on. I see you there peeking over the trees, calling to me. I'll get to you later. Sadly flume one was closed. The signs looked good though. I think they repainted since last year. The best part about New Texas Giant is when the trees eat you. Edited June 10, 2012 by Miracleman
Miracleman
Continued: Everything's bigger in Texas. It's not about length, but girth. It was the longest line I waited in all day at thirty minutes, but Those Dippin' Dots were worth it. (Kidding) Seriously, New Texas Giant is a must ride. It was even better than last year. A flat ride. What? I got nuthin'. Hit jest don't. I've been to this park numerous times and I just realized that the sign says Pecos Belle's and not Pecos Bill's That's Titan. The Brake run there makes it come to almost a complete halt now because some lightweights were complaining about blacking out during the helices. Front of the park from the Oil Derrick. Those green things are called trees. They are needed in a park this hot. Superman towers over Gotham City. Don't cry Shockwave. I still absolutely love you. It's just I also love New Texas Giant. There's room in my heart for both of you. You do have curves in all the right places, though. Seriously, it was very smooth this time. Hey, there. Look! An oil derrick. Looks like she's had some work done. Double the lift hills, double the fun. More to come (including more Tower shots)
Miracleman
Continued: Wheeeee! This is my current desktop wallpaper. I love this shot of Titan. Yeah, Superman is really tall. I think it may be the tallest S&S. Another entrance shot. I love this shot. You can see the Six Flags to the right. Da Da Daa DA DA! Superman! I love New Texas Giant. So photogenic. Going up. Train at the top of Titan. Coming down. That's the Rangers ballpark and New Cowboys Stadium in the background if anyone's wondering. It's a little late for regrets once you're there. I can't resist taking pictures of New Texas Giant. Tell me that doesn't look like fun. In Texas, this oil derrick and old truck IS theming. La Vibora. A must ride, if only just for its rarity. I call it the knee knocker. Wait . . . They didn't tell me that this was a Seven Flags!! The Judge. Six Flags and the Judge. The Out and Back of the Judge. Gotham City's twisty goodness. My least favorite coaster and my favorite flat ride. Can't resist the Giant's siren call. Headchoppers? Sidechoppers? Handchoppers? All-aroundchoppers? Ride this if you want to get wet. More to come!!!
Miracleman
Continued: The best part about Superman: Tower of Power is when it shoots you out of the chimney. Look at those bright colors. Definitely repainted from last year. Steel and Lex Luthor. Supergirl. Steel and Luthor sans fountain. Less dismembery than the Intamin version. Superboy, Lois Lane, and Brainiac. Brainiac doesn't get any banners. Turtle credit. Fish are friends not food. Guns. Eatin' time. Chutes goin' up. Chutes comin' down. Chill out with AAAAAAAAAAAdventure Time! Pandemonium. Here it comes. Just missed it. I like this for the dude passed out on the bench in front of the Judge. Judge station. The park from the Judge line. The Judge looks good for his age. Man, I liked the way this turned out. Majestic. More to come.
Manic Monte
Great Pictures! Thanks! I really love that park. Did I miss Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast?
Miracleman
Great Pictures! Thanks! I really love that park. Did I miss Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast? No, I haven't got to Gotham City yet, but it's coming. Reverse Blast is really fun. You wouldn't think that launching backwards would make that big a difference, but it does, and it's awesome. The tower shots of Freeze were mostly blocked by Superman, though.
UberBeavis
Very nice trip report and photos. I went there last year for Texas Giant Bash, and loved it. I'm taking my wife there in August; she's had to put up with me blabbing about the place for the past year.
Miracleman
Continued: Pepsi-lovers search elsewhere. Sigh, Let's get this one over with. I'm getting some painful Flashbacks. This is the parachute ride sign. Get it? "Chute" Out. When you see this restaurant, that means Gotham City is near. Gotham City's smaller and brighter than in the movie. Batwing: A Bat Flat. Mr. Freeze entrance through the misting fans. The best theming in the park. Check out the new logo. It now goes backwards then forwards. Going backwards up that final spike while looking down is cool. In Freeze's lair. Leaving Freeze and walking towards. . . Hey, some jerk parked his car in the middle of the park. An oldie but a goodie. Smoother than last year. I still prefer the Great America original though. One day he'll get that Road Runner. Pandemonium entrance. Time to get wet before we leave. Aquaman bridge before. And after. What the Heck is Aquaman doing? This ride has some OUTRAGEOUS theming. Aquaman: This is how you do a heroic pose. Justice League store. I had to snap this. What does a speedy character have to do with Trucking? Up, next, Sonic the Hedgehog's tractor pulls. Bugs Bunny and Pepe le Pew do . . . the electric slide (no, seriously) in front of Silver Star Carousel. Leaving now. A parting shot of the Judge. A parting shot of La Vibora. This picnic area off of the parking lot looks . . . Really nice. And I had to end with the home of the 2012 World Series Champions. Go Rangers! That's all Folks! XYZ
This is a really nice trip report. I usually don't see this much detail going into the overall park and I like how you covered the older, less popular rides that usually people don't even mention on their SFOT trip reports. I'm taking my wife there in August; she's had to put up with me blabbing about the place for the past year. It was one of the best trips I've had there. It's my favorite current SF park (as well as my current home park), and has a good ride mix. Very clean. The game barkers get annoying, but that's SF for you. This is a really nice trip report. I usually don't see this much detail going into the overall park and I like how you covered the older, less popular rides that usually people don't even mention on their SFOT trip reports. Thanks. I've been to the park multiple times, and I can't tell you how excited I was when the Oil Derrick Tower was open. It allowed me to get some great shots. It's closed more often than it's open because of high winds.

Miracleman
Very nice park and a amazing trip report! loved the little comedy bits. Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. This was the first trip report I've attempted, but I plan on doing more, so any feedback is appreciated. I figured I had enjoyed seeing so many of the trip reports that I should contribute. I've noticed some people keep a kind of running trip report thread of several parks. Is that preferable to doing individual tr threads?
willh51
Great report, and I'll echo that the park is really quite good looking. They seem to have an excellent mix of rides, especially with the New Texas Giant in the mix.
alilstronger
Awesome pics! This seems like a beautiful park. I plan on doing a Texas tour of my own if TPR doesn't do another in the next few years.
palmerleeberry
Thank you for your wonderful photo trip report on Six Flags Over Texas. I last visited the park in 2004 and your photos helped me remind me about what makes this park a great park (hey, it was in this park that the first log flume and first mine train ride debuted - and that was over fifty years ago!). Of course, this park should have some additional rides that weren't there when I visited, but it also have taken some rides out ( does anyone remember a first generation freefall tower called "Wildcat"? And there was once a scrambler ride that stood in the spot where "Superman: Tower of Power now stands today). Glad to see that they hanged on to The Texas Chute Out and Judge Roy Scream (hey, how many parks do you know has an attraction in which you must exit outside the park in order to ride it?). "And when you are done typing in this post, come see me. I'll be in bed, waiting for you."

mattnz
Thanks for your report. Love the shots from the observation tower. I am desperately keen to get to this park someday very soon, and the more reports I read the hungrier I get! Looks like a top tier SF park. Meteornotes
Nice report. A shame about the Pink Things. Too bad they switched vendors, as the old style ones were really good. dt
Miracleman
Nice report. A shame about the Pink Things. Too bad they switched vendors, as the old style ones were really good. dt They were good and unique. The worst part about it is that they still advertise it using the old signs saying a Six Flags Original. Nowhere does it advertise a changed formula or flavor.
