CCI did build some good rides, a few left out are Boulder Dash, Excalibur, Great White. It is noticeable though that Boulder Dash has already rebuilt the turn by the sky ride (last season) and Funtown has had Martin & Vleminckx do some work to it.

These are new rides so maybe CCI took a shortcut or two in design to save some money. But both rides I never felt to be rough. Now look at a Cobb, mainly SFNE Cyclone, which after getting its PTC trains and all the re-tracking is now the crappiest wood coaster in the Northeast. I love the PTC trains over the Morgan trains, but the change of the first drop removed all the thrill.

If that's all true it came as a shock to CCI's bank, because I heard there's no way they could have owed MILLIONS without the bank knowing what was up.

As long as they were making their payments to the bank on time...there's no reason for the bank to care. Which, by the way, was entirely possible if "take money from the parks but not pay the local vendors/contractors used" was really how they did business.

There will never be anyone to convince me otherwise, but the smoothness of the rides depend on the upkeep that the parks assign to them. Now someone could argue, however, that CCI wooden coasters require more upkeep than GCI, which I'de bet they do, and I beleive that is for several different reasons, the PTC trains are kinda like bricks compared to the millenium flyers, and the way CCI designed there coasters with minimal banking and maximum forces makes them more demanding structurally than the GCI. Comparing the two is like comparing plums to peaches; they share several common charecteristics, but as a whole they are completely different.

Well, I can tell you that here in the VERY dry heat of Albuquerque, you do not want a completely wooden coaster, it would equate to a nightmare!!!

The wooden/steel structure is less expensive to build, stronger, is not effected by low humidity, and requeres less maintence

not quite sure how anyone could say a steel structured coaster is more maintence intensive than one made entirely out of wood, which expands shrinks cracks, and erodes into dust over time.

CCI's were amazing around 2001. I remember that, when I got into enthuisasming (is that a word?), they were all the rage over at America Coaster's Network... I've only ridden one, Ghostrider, and that's not fun anymore.

What are you smoking? Even the GP agree... even though Ghost Rider is "old" and ruff, it still kicks the asses of all other Knotts rides. Its not even that painful. I still find it very enjoyable.... just not as enjoyable as it SHOULD be.

Personally, I have always thought that steel-supported woodies would be harder to maintain. My reasoning is that since the structure doesn't flex as much, the track and surrounding wood supports are forced to take the brunt of the force.

// counts GhostRider as steel supported (since the support structure is doubled, it really feels like a steel supported woodie)

Hmm,

maybe,

but the overall structure is WAY more sound and will stand up alot longer

so maybe its a trade off

The steel structured wooden coasters require more upkeep, but you won't be replacing support beams anytime soon

I really still believe its the commentment of the park to keep the coaster good, as for the NM Rattler, its the only caoster they got, and thier #1 draw, they better keep it running good, or they will lose business

Kinda like the SCBB Giant Dipper, that thing is ancient, and in perfect condition

Does anybody find it weird that the "little" park always upkeep their Woodies MUCH MUCH better than the Corporate parks with their huge budgets. It just seems like the big parks do not care about that much about them like they are not a draw (or popular) so why bother.

I'd imagine since a woodie would be a bigger investment for a Cliff's or Funtown, they would be more careful not to ruin their investment. Little parks are probably more budget-conscious and careful with their investments whereas the corporate parks have a lot more to fall back on (ie 9 other coasters at Geauga, so how important IS Villain to them?)

Just my opinion..
