Edwardo Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Well, if you've never been, go this year or you won't get a chance. I just hope the rides get saved. I hate that the rapids ride and haunted house likely won't, but the coasters and flats (esp. the mouse) should be picked up. I'm certainly not happy, as MB needs this far more than another shopping area. http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/mld/myrtlebeachonline/business/industries/tourism/14056612.htm
jarmor Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I'm soo glad this was one of the parks I documented last year! Ahh the memories...
pkdcoaster Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 so sad...I will have to make one more trip this summer. (here is my video of the 2 coasters from 2000 I recently made in case anybody wants to see it) http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23103 JEFF
DerekRx Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Thank you for sharing this info. I always wanted to visit MB and the Pavilion, but kept putting it off for one reason or another. I was actually looking into going there next weekend, until a work conference came up being that weekend. I decided I'd just put it off until the Hard Rock Park was constructed. Looks like I'll be going to MB this year after all, probably in August, though knowing my luck a hurricane will come thru that weekend and I won't get on anything. I'll rethink my season plans soon and find time for it.
Erik Johnson Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I think we will be able to fit in this park on our 2nd coaster trip this summer. It looks like it is only about 60 miles from I-95.
ParkTrips Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 ^ But it's a good 90 minutes, FYI. It's not the shortest of drives even though it looks decievingly close to 95. Joe
DerekRx Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 ^Hey, its either 90 minutes or an eternity, you decide. Erik, I'd go for the extra 30 minutes. That's what I'm thinking as I look at what weekends I have free and how expensive airfare is. I still remember like a year or two they kept insisting that MB Pavilion would not be closing, it was just a rumor.
ParkTrips Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I was just trying to point out that it's not as close as one might think (more of a trip tip than a stay away tip), but it this is just for the credits then some of y'all have problems
Erik Johnson Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 ^ But it's a good 90 minutes, FYI. It's not the shortest of drives even though it looks decievingly close to 95. Joe Well, It will be on our way to BGW, in which we will be leaving Florida Friday night and spending all day Sunday at BGW. I think we will have the time to stop by MB. Yeah sure it is out of the way, but like Derek said, this would be my last chance.
CoasterFanatic Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 This makes me kind of glad that I was able to finally make it to the park last year after a 20 year hiatus. Out of all the rides the Arrow Mouse would be the greatest loss. Hope they can find it in their hearts to move it since it is so unique. As for Hurricane, I am all about preservation but they should tear that one down ... with extreme prejudice. // Derek, be sure to hold on to you d**k on that ride.
ParkTrips Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 We had a small ACE getogether tonight to help SFOG prepare for Goliath's media day and the topic came up about possibly trying to hold an event at the Pavilion this year - sounded like a good idea until someone put the terms "Hurricane" and "ERT" in the same sentance. I think everyone's knees hurt instantaneously upon hearing that. Erik if you do stop at least spend some time in the park, it's actually not too bad. Antique carousel, interesting water rides and a great dark house. But I still say making it a credit run is silly.
PkiJake Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I actually really liked Hurricane. I didn't think it was to rough, I even rode it with a sun burnt back. -Jake
bgwfreak Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 This is such sad news. Greed is NOT good after all. Hurricane was not rough at all on the hills in 04 but the helixes killed you. Hopefully it will find a new home and get BANKED helixes. I wouldn't mind seeing the top spin make it's way to Carowinds.
DerekRx Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I don't think any of us here are going for the "Credit" run, more like the "if we don't go now, there won't be anything" run. Still, if someone does want to go simply for the credits, that's their prerogative. In a way, everything is a credit run, dark rides, coasters, overall experiences. If I just wanted to go to a park for the sake of going to a park, I'd be about $50,000 richer by just going to Dorney every week, total cost per year $90 for a pass, about $25 a month for gasoline.
momo1tx Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 I think is sad news, it looked like a nice stop. Luckily my parents were considering a trip to Myrtle Beach this year, so I probably will get to ride the rides there.
Tomizzle For Rizzle Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 Hey Robb, you still don't have the Hurricane credit right? You betta hurry!
