Jew Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 My school (for which I have no pride) almost upset Memphis! No wonder Memphis didn't get a #1 seed...
coasterdude5 Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Tigers about killed me for a while during the game today but they pulled through winning by eleven. They had me scared, though!
YFWE Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Went 15 for 16 in my bracket today... I feel pretty good about that. Â Damn Western Kentucky ruining my perfection...
bigstevet07 Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Wow, there were some good upsets last night. The Hilltoppers defeated the Illini. I guess maybe the Illini were on top of the hill but couldn't hold their position. The Cougars of BYU were dominated by Aggies. The Huskies defeated the Mocs. The Terrapins beat the Golden Bears. My mascot bracket took a minor hit, but my finals pick in the Blue Devils are looking good.
coolhandluke Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 ^ According to their oversized mascot, the Mocs are Mockingbirds. I would (and did) pick Balto over them. Â I agree with Duke though. As long as Duke and Wake Forest face off in the finals, I have faith in the mascot system. I would understand if Az. St. made it though.
bigstevet07 Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 ^ Excellent point on the Sun Devils. Which one is more devious though, a Sun Devil, or a Blue Devil? If they met, would it result in a tie?
BeemerBoy Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 ^ I'd have to take the Sun Devils since their origin is what is most crucial to our planet. Blue Devils make it sound like they're depressed.
bigstevet07 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 The mascot bracket has taken some serious hits. Finals favorites Demon Deacons couldn't handle the Vikings. The Sun Devils were baffled by the Orange, (not Orangemen, just Orange.) Maybe the Devils couldn't handle the high vitamin C content. The Sooners beat down the Wolverines, (obviously not the Red Dawn Wolverines.) Â It wasn't all bad though. Other finals favorite the Blue Devils advanced. Final Four contender Memphis Tigers are looking very strong, and the Bulldogs of Gonzaga should win out against the Tar Heels, (WTF is a Tar Heel), and either the afore mentioned Orange and Sooners. Â Best sweet 16 matchup - Memphis Tigers vs Missourii Tigers... which Tiger is tougher? Â Worst matchup - Oklahoma Sooners vs Syracuse Orange
BeemerBoy Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 LOL. I'm loving the mascot bracket updates. Â As for the Tigers vs. Tigers match-up, I always say go with the team in the place with the best food. In this case, I've always heard excellent things about Memphis barbeque, so that's who I'd lean towards. Â In the case of the Orange vs. Sooners, I'll have to go with the orange. Why? Well, in this case, I'm going to imagine that the "Orange" was chosen to represent Agent Orange, which naturally is more dangerous and destructive than a group of Sooners. Plus, the old SportsCenter ads with the anchors abusing the mascot were comic gold. So yeah, none of that made much sense, which is why I'm picking Syracuse.
bigstevet07 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 ^ Ah but conversely you could say if the food is better in Memphis, maybe those Tigers won't be as hungry. Too close to call! Â I do love the Orange's mascot, and The Sooners is just some wagon wheel that probably gor disentary during a 5th grade trip on the Oregon Trail. Very good call on the Orange.
BeemerBoy Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 ^ Excellent point about the potential of lethargic tigers. Â And the more I think about it now, the more I'm willing to pick the 'Cuse to win it all. I mean Agent Orange would destroy everything in it's way, so naturally, Bulldogs, Cardinals, Wildcats, Sooners, and anything else wouldn't stand a chance. Syracuse should maybe look into formally changing it's name to Syracuse University Agent Orange. It's much more intimidating that way.
bigstevet07 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I definitely would not want to play the Agent Orange. I think their football team would be a lot better then too. They could still keep the mascot a giant orange, but put a streak of blonde hair on top to represent the agent orange.
knottslover77 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I sucked this round I had USC, Marquette, Wisconson, and Western Kentucky winning. Â --Jay
holyblakbelt Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I'm doing fine with my brackets. All I can say is... Â Spartans! What is your profession!
coasterdude5 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 LOL. That's coming from a native! I have a strong feeling that we're gonna get to the Final Four. I'd be happy with that.
DiSab Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Dayton had an excellent game in the first round. A huge win for the program. Second round, though... That's a different story. But the season was still a lot of fun to watch, and I'm looking forward to next year.
bigstevet07 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Mascot bracket update time. This thing is more of a mess than Obama's. Apparently in college good always prevails over evil. The Blue Devils didn't even show up for their sweet 16 game. The Mizzou Tigers were more hungry than the Memphis Tigers. It must be true that Memphis has amazing food, and the Tigers were lethargic. The Spartans were somehow completely overlooked by me. I guess I didn't consider them the spartans from 300. They are clearly the favorites now. The South turned out to be the strangest bracket. The Tar Heels (again WTF is a Tar Heel?) defeated the Wagon Wheels to win the region. No devils, animals, or warriors could beat these guys?  Anyways on to the Final Four. Since the mascot bracket has been wiped out, I'll make some predictions here.  The Wildcats should handle whatever a Tar Heel is. Although, I'm starting to think a Tar Heel is pretty dangerous. The Spartans should take care of the Huskies.  Worst matchup would be Tar Heels vs Huskies in the finals Best matchup would be Spartans vs Wildcats in the finals  I'm taking the Spartans to win it all. Never bet against the powerful, born to fight Spartans.
YFWE Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Dayton had an excellent game in the first round. A huge win for the program. Second round, though... That's a different story. But the season was still a lot of fun to watch, and I'm looking forward to next year. Â Dayton's going to rock it next year, I think... definitely another tournament berth!
Chris Benvenuto Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Well, my weekend (this coming one) is going to be just dandy. Since my dad works at the University of Detroit Mercy, the host of the Final Four/Championship this year.....I realized.....and he brought them home last night: I HAVE FINAL FOUR AND CHAMPIONSHIP TICKETS!!!! Â Lordy, Lordy....I feel so blessed when I go these games, I have seen a Sweet Sixteen game, Elite Eight, and now this coming weekend a Final Four game and then next Tuesday an NCAA title game. Â Sorry if it sounds like I'm bragging but OMFG, I'm so freaking excited over the fact my dad got us tickets to games!!! Â I'm really sorry if this sounds like bragging once again
BeemerBoy Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 ^ It's not bragging. You scored great tickets, you're excited, and that's cool. No harm in that. Enjoy it! Â ^^^ I'm also going with the Spartans. Not because they're the ones from 300, but because I'm guessing every player on that team has incentive to perform like NBA prospects now in the spotlight. I mean, would you wanna look for a job in Michigan right now? Â That's my updated theory, and I'm betting the house on it. Even though I think Nova's playing the best ball of anyone left.
Sir Clinksalot Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 ^^ Awesome that you scored tix. It's okay to brag sometimes. Â My bracket sucks, I don't have one team left in the final four. Â So since every team I pick loses, I'm going to pick North Carolina to win it all (so they lose). See, it's reverse Psychology. Â (I hope Villanova Loses)
hauntme23 Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I just read that Green Day's first single from 21st C.B. will open the game on Monday. Â I know this doesn't really have to do with basketball itself, but I'm really excited for it
Chris Benvenuto Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Michigan State refuses to let go of the dream, the things I witnessed tonight at the Michigan State- U Conn game tonight will forever last in my mind. I'll take tonight's memories to my grave, and I will never forget them. Â This state has gone through so much the past few years and this Michigan State team is what this state needs to improve morale from Sault St. Marie to Saginaw, from Kalamazoo back to Traverse City and most importantly DETROIT! Â I don't know about everyone else, but I felt something in my heart that I haven't felt in awhile and I don't know how to describe it. Is it this MSU team, is it the fact the Final Four is here in Detroit followed by the Championship Game? Â This is what this state needs right now, a National Basketball title and hopefully a World Series in the fall. Â I made some great memories tonight, and I have feeling that no else has tonight besides the 72,464 fans that were with me in Ford Field tonight. Â GO GREEN! GO WHITE! Â GO MICHIGAN STATE SPARTANS FOR THE TITLE!!! Â GOODNIGHT!!!!
spaceace12 Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Stupid MSU......I had UConn in my final set. Go UNC.
DiSab Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 UNC-Nova is just embarrassing. I really thought Nova would give them a better game. So boring I turned it off. Â State will win it all, mark my words. They have the talent, the passion, the drive. And playing 90 miles from your campus doesn't hurt either. It'll be a good game Monday night, but MSU will pull away and win by 8.
