Saw Elissa's pic at the begining of the "last coaster you rode" Thread

and Wondered if anybody had a picture of the whole train without wheel covers...I have seen Raptor without one of them but that is it.

Has anybody seen a whole train without them?

Thanks, JEFF

I've seen Batman at SFGAm without any of the wheel covers on it. I have a picture, but unfortunately it's not a digital pic and I don't have a scanner. It's definately odd to see a train without the covers though.

Why do they have the wheel covers anyway? The non-inverted B&Ms don't.

I'd want to say it has to do with grease or other residues from falling onto the riders.

As for the actualy intent of the thread, the only thing I have is a partial shot of a Flyer train with the covers removed

^was that recently or opening year 1992? I remember seeing some footage from press day without the wheel covers from a distance but it was just a quick shot.

I think it was in '02.

Actually, it's not that weird.

If the covers being there are to keep grease/debris from hitting a ryder on a B&M, then why don't Vekoma and Intamin suspended coasters have them? Couldn't the same scenario happen on any of their suspended coasters?

Although now that I think about it, I remember seeing covers for the up stop wheels on Invertigo, just covering the bottom portion only, not the entire wheel assembly. I don't remember seeing any wheel covers on V2, but then again I wasn't looking.

Not sure how it would prevent stuff from flying onto riders as you can plainly see the rolling stock when seated in the seats .. maybe to protect flying object from being expelled .. but I think it's mearly a cosmetic feature and nothing more.
