Jim Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Is there any way to find out if any of the coasters sold at the auction? I'm sure I would have seen something on the boards if it was. I was really hoping a small park like Lakemont would have bought one of the Schwarzkopfs. They were rumored to do something big back in 2002 but I never heard anymore. Unfortunately I think the rest of Astroworld's coasters were scrapped.
coasterdude5 Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 I think Greezed Lightning was sold as well as a couple others.
Erik Johnson Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 I saw a picture of pieces of the Serpent sitting in a dumpster. I can not remember where I saw it though.
coasterdude5 Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 ^Screamscape had pictures of it a couple days ago.
kingdanny Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Serpent was put in a dumpster. So was Viper and XLR-8. That's a shame. Many parks could have benifited from those rides. Batman is at Darien Lake. Ultra Twister is at SFA. Serial Thriller is at the Great Escape.
America Sings Freak Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 You can find out more about this at Screamscape.com

Greezed Lightnin' was not sold. Uh oh! Yeah, good news about Serpent, heh.
robbalvey Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 So what were the pictures of the track sitting in the dumpster that everyone claimed to have seen? --Robb
SFGAm Shock Wave Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Only the track for Serpent was sold. For whatever reason, the train wasn't included. Also, Viper and XLR-8 are being scrapped. Parts of both were seen in dumpsters.
coaster1 Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Trains for Serpent are at SFOT for use on our mini mine. Serpent was sold track only, most likely to someone for scrap profits.
CycloneMan Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 No chance of survival for Texas Cyclone?
coasterdude5 Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 That's too bad. I guess it was more of a trouble to rebuild it than to tear it down.
coaster1 Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Trains were saved as well as the face entrance. Everything else is due to be torn down. The "free" was fake and AW said the coaster is available for sale but you would be responsible for removing it as well.
viking86 Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Awww its such a shame to see Viper being scrapped. Schwarzkopf Looping Stars are excellent rides and it would be perfect for a smaller park. I also thought that Schwarzkopf coasters were fairly easy to move. But I guess that the park doesnt have any alternatives if there are no buyers...
Astat Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 ^ Easy to relocate but a nightmare to maintain. Viper was 25 years old and had already been relocated once, and with the Schwarzkopf company non-existent, parks just aren't interested in buying these coasters because of how hard it would be to get parts for them. That's why so many Schwarzkopfs are dying...
