Rocket Rodder Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Not sure where this goes, so.... *pokes title* Or should I say a "Beginner coaster rider".. Yeah, that's me. I'm pretty new to the whole coaster scene still. The only two rides I can say I have been on yet are Space Mountain at Disneyland California and Indianna Jones Adventure.. but I'm not sure if that even counts as a coaster. Anyone have advice on a good coaster a beginner like me might like.. that wouldn't make me puke my guts out..? I'm in the SoCal area.. Thanks alot for the advice. :3
cfc Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 You started out well with Space Mountain--now try the Matterhorn and Big Thunder. Nope--Indy isn't a coaster (more of a dark ride/simulator), but it's great nevertheless.
Rocket Rodder Posted December 17, 2005 Author Posted December 17, 2005 If BTM didn't crash I would... I hear the mattern is similar to a vekoma in bumpyness... is this true..? It does look kind of fun..
waterviper Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Oh Matterhorn is one in a million!! I recomend it highly! Ya its a bit bumpy but not enough to rattle your teeth or give you wiplash! Ok as for amusement parks go. I suggest Knotts Berry Farm first, then Six Flags Magic Mountain. Knotts has less intense rides compared to SFMM!! Since you are a butt naked baby by the time you ride all of SFMM coasters your gona want more and more to ride. Then the next thing you know you are a coaster enthusiast junkie like most of us here at TPR!! I only been to Disneyland SFMM, KBF, Elitch Gardens. Now according to mostly everyone here I am being very deprived of great awesome roller coasters that are out there. IF you want to know about these great and awesome roller coasters you have came to the right place~TPR!
Nrthwnd Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 ^ And out of the thousands and thousands of times BTM has taken to the tracks.... well, the number of times has been really REALLY low for crashing, y'know? These times that have happened in the past few years, of course, are serious enough and shouldn't be ignored. But hey - people have to deal with flying every day, up there in the air in something that shouldn't be able to hang there, in the air??? Not exactly related I know - but if a crash (and/or a death) scares you enough NOT to ever ride a coaster or coaster-like attraction again or at all.... well, good luck at picking your rides, beause I know there's a few coasters in your future you probably don't want to know past histories about, heh heh... Be concerned, I know. That's only human. But don't use these 'events' as total guidelines for your Ride Experience Happpiness Pie. Things happen. You'll be fine. And Welcome to the TPR Gang! Yo, you got some Ears man??? (EDIT: Editting my 'shock' there.)
Wes Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Go on Psyclone at SFMM. You'll never think of coasters in the same way again.
Nemmy Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 Go on Top Thrill Dragster, has to be one of the easiest coasters ever made.
Twister II Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 Silver Bullet was pretty easy too. I had a SoCal review a few weeks ago, you can read my reviews of the park, and their rides here: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20718
cfc Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 The Matterhorn is a bit rough, but not all that bad--and there's no over-the-shoulder harness to bang your head against. Jaguar at Knott's is good for beginners, too.
pagemaster_b Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 Matterhorn is only rough because it's fast approaching fifty years! Ask any over forty person and they'll tell you parts start wearing down at that age. Of course, good maintenance will insure another fifty years of pleasure without a hitch. I agree with the others to start out at Knott's Berry Farm before moving onto Six Flag's Magic Mountain. Start out simple and work your way up, like start with Montazma's Revenge first before going on Excellerator (that will get you use to the catapults). It's okay to be a little scared the first time you ride a coaster. Once it's done, ride it again and again and again. You will find that it's much more enjoyable the second and third time around. If that doesn't help, just remind yourself that as dangerous as it feels, you have way more chances of getting injured in a car accident than on a roller coaster. (The fear factor is what often creates the rush!)
Rocket Rodder Posted December 18, 2005 Author Posted December 18, 2005 Yeah.. Maybe I won't let BTM's Crash scare me... when it comes to coaster deaths there's also matterhorn, Space Mountain.. *rambles* I think I'm going to try Jaguar! at Knott's. then... BTM... *gulp* Well I used to say I would NEVER go on a coaster... then Space Mountain and 75 rides later... 0o;; But yeah, again. Thanks so much for all the helpful advice. n.n
SFOGdude25 Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 If you ever come near Atlanta, GA, go to SFOG and ride the Canyon Blaster. It's a really fun junior coaster.
Rocket Rodder Posted March 7, 2006 Author Posted March 7, 2006 Sweet.. Thanks again for all the helpful advice...!! Also watching some of the POVs kind of helps.. some of those rides look really REALLY fun... x3
dougr Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 A few details to consider...on BTM the front "engine" separated from the rest of the train, then rolled back into the first car. CALOSHA did a thorough review of the ride-it should be safer than before, you may want to stay out of the first row on your first ride. My wife and I rode Mindbender at West Edmonton Mall years after it killed somebody-they had completely redesigned the wheel mechanisms and restraints.
TwistedTrack Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 go on something 200ft+ tall. I used to not go on anything that was above 150ft tall, but once i went on a hypercoaster, i wasnt afraid of any coaster again. Dont do Goliath though, i heard that had some crazy G's on the helix.
What Now Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Many more people die every day in car acidents then on coasters. Are you afraid to drive or be a passenger? Good Beginer Coasters: Disneyland: any DCA: Molhuland Madness CA Screamin' (It only has one loop) Knott's: Jaguar! SFMM: Ninja Goldrusher Colussus Magic Mountain is a good park to go to since they have so many coasters, so they have different coaster all diffrent sizes and intensity.
