Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

We get a lot of folks from Chicago that come here. From what some have told me, they like our Six Flags. To them, the rides/park are different.

My friends and I stopped by SFStL on a Sunday in early October. We had a great time and we really liked the park. We are planning to visit again next year and I'm looking forward to Justice League: Battle for Metropolis. SFStL has a lot of potential and I hope corporate continues to grow the park. Here are some things we noticed about the park when compared to SFGAm. SFStL is much cleaner, the guests were nicer/better behaved, the park staff were friendly/knowledgeable and the ride ops were more efficient. The layout of the park annoyed me at times, but after another visit I'll be fine.

My friends and I liked the collection of rides, especially me. The coaster line up is solid and I really liked Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast, Screamin' Eagle, American Thunder and Boss. Boss gave me a beating, but I really like the layout. I hope it goes some love this off season and hopefully it doesn't get iron horsed in the future. For years I heard that Ninja is a death trap and I was surprised by how smooth it is. It's boring, but by no means is it a terrible coaster.

I love the layout f our park, it 4-5 interlocking loops that really never leave you more than 5 minute walk to any attraction. Where SFGAM seemed like one big loop with a smaller (southwest section) attached. That was my biggest complaint aboht SFGAM was the layout.

The Boss is more of a Death Trap than the Ninja, but you are correct... it is boring and needs to be scrapped. It has been here since '86 - '87. Its shelf-life expired years and years ago

Awesome...glad to hear you enjoyed! As far as the Ninja, it is rough but compared to other similar coasters I've ridden in other parks, it is smooth. I rode the Anaconda this summer at Kings Dominion....terrible. Gave me such a headache...much more so than the Ninja!

SFSTL is about half the size of SFGAm though

SFSTL is 285 acres but the park owns ~503 acres. SFGAm is 305 acres but they own ~330 acres. So the park really isn't much bigger than SFSTL. I was surprised to....so SFSTL has much potential for expansion but don't know if they'll ever use all that land.

Hmm... I am surprised. The Footprint of SFGAm seems a lot larger than ours - looking at aerial shots, etc.

I'm guessing this includes the employee back area and the paintball area since it's 285 acres of "actually used" space. If added up, this would make our park bigger. But I would also guess SFGAm would have to include their employee area as well. And they don't have a paintball area.

This all looks so amazing. Just so un-six flags like if you know what I mean. Hopefully we keep getting more construction updates and info.

This is a big investment into our park. And I keep hearing of park renovations. Hopefully these will keep us heading in the "right" direction.....

I'm excited about this ride. I will be following updates.....

More ride details:

JLBFM will feature 5 huge 3-D interactive screens (one with fog and one 30 feet wide), over 600 shooting targets, 4-D special effects and many other "first of it's kind" features not being revealed yet but have never been done anywhere else in the world! I have been THIS excited for a ride coming to SFSTL in a long time!!!

I went to the park not knowing what the layout was like. When I visit a new park I like to feel my way around and only look at a map if I need to. I looked at the map quite a bit because there are many paths to take. It's not a park where you can look at a ride and head straight there. At the end of the day I had a decent idea on how to navigate the park. Knowing that there's interlocking loops will make it that much easier. After a second visit I should be fine.

I like SFGAm's layout because it's simple. It is one big loop with the Southwest Territory loop. It's easy for people to navigate and it's hard to get lost. Then again I have been going to the park my whole life. Although it would be nice if there was a path cutting across the center of the park. That will never happen because the employee backstage area is in the middle of the park.

SFSTL is about half the size of SFGAm though

When I was in the parking lot I thought the park looked half the size of SFGAm. After a few hours I realized that the park is much bigger on the inside like a Tardis . I was pleasantly surprised that I spent the whole day there.

Just the fact that Sally's goal is to surpass the Universal rides is incredible. We'll have to see how it turns out, but things are looking very optimistic, aided by the quote below:

"[John Wood] said the bar was set high by the Amazing Adventures of Super-Man ride and the Transformers: The Ride – 3D at Universal Orlando, he said.

'For the last 15 years we’ve been trying to figure out exactly how to take that to the next level,' he said."

While the animatronic does look really good, I'm still very skeptical, just because I feel as if they kinda used a lot of inspiration from the other Justice League dark ride in Austrailia. That dark ride just doesn't do it for me.

Considering there is only 5 screens and only a whopping 2 animatronics, I'm curious to see how long this ride will be. The animatronics look absolutely amazing though and Sally has definitely stepped it up. I should also say, the ride vehicles are probably one of the best things behind the animatronics so far.

At this point, it could go one way or another for me. Most of the stuff I'm concerned about we've not seen yet. ie. animation, set pieces, layout

Hopefully I can help with some of your concerns:

1. Dave Roemer is very open about not liking the ride at WB in Australia (why is Patrick from Spongebob jumping on everyone's faces?).While there are some major similarities between the two rides, the SF version will, in the end, be a vastly different experience.

2. The animation for this ride will 100% original with the quality seen on the Universal rides. Actually the main reason that it is going into two parks at once is so that the parks can split the cost of the film.

3. The set pieces are being built by the same manufacturer and quality as the Transformers ride.

4. Also, the estimated ride time will be between 3 and 4 minutes. Some of the screens will be completely immersive at over 30ft long and mixed with special effects to create great show quality. With the vehicles having the ability to speed up, slow down, stop, move backwards, etc, there is a lot more that the designers can do with the layout.

All of the above information is available online in various press releases and interviews, so I am not giving away any kind of insider information regarding the ride. More information may be released in between now and opening day, but either way, the layout, queue, and quality of the ride is top notch. I just recommend keeping an open mind, and I really think you will have an outstanding time on it.

Looking at the complexity of the ride vehicles, this thing will have more down time than Deja Vu.

Part of the reason why Oceaneering was chosen to manufacture the vehicles is because they had been operating in Transformers and Spiderman for years. The vehicles for JLBM are actually even a little bit less complex than Universal's besides the fact that they carry two less people. They don't have the same "jumping" capabilities in addition to just rotating around. The vehicles are actually all built and have gone through lots of testing. While there is always a possibility that things can change, these vehicles should share the same reliability as their cousins at Universal (if not better without the occasionally problematic elevator in Transformers).

People complaining about how Six Flags St. Louis is neglected by corporate need to shut up already. This ride looks to be the biggest investment in the chain next year (unless Twisted Colossus costs more than I think). I don't care if it isn't a coaster, Spider-Man at Universal is the best ride I've ever been on, and if Justice League turns out to be half as good as that I'll be over the moon.

Just because they aren't adding something you personally want (like a hyper coaster) doesn't mean the park is being ignored by Six Flags.
