PhishyBrewer Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 (edited) Made a trek up the mountain today. There's this little area called "Apple Hill" that has a bunch of fun events going on from early October to Thanksgiving. Baked goods, apple cider, crafts... crap like that. It's nice to get out of the city and relax a while. Enjoy! Couple more weeks, and this all will be covered in snow. Since things were so slow, I might as well help the business out by having another brew. No action going on in there. Things must be slow. The bar was dead. Mmm... beer! After the hike, I felt like a beer. So we stopped and the Jack Russel Brewery. This was one big ass turkey. And ran into an ACEr. And we came across a very hairy ass. Later, we went for a hike through the woods. And Gavin... he had the pizza. I had a very tasty schnitzel. Karen had the meat pie, which she really liked. Had a very tasty non-alcoholic brew called Clausterhaler Mmm... food! Gavin with 3 beers in his hand... that's my boy. First stop: Bavarian Hills Edited October 30, 2005 by PhishyBrewer
ebl Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 That looks like a cool place. Where exactly is it? Eric
SLUSHIE Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Looks like you had a nice time up there. I haven't been up there for a couple years. My parents went up last weekend though. Usualy after I go I'm sick of apples for a while.
PhishyBrewer Posted October 30, 2005 Author Posted October 30, 2005 ^^Oops! Sorry! It's just past Placerville, CA in a town called Camino. It's about the half way point to Lake Tahoe from Sacramento.
SLUSHIE Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 they have a website http://www.applehill.com/ I was curious to see if they did and searched for it.
PhishyBrewer Posted October 30, 2005 Author Posted October 30, 2005 ^Cool! That's good to know. We might stop again and pick up a pie on our way to Tahoe for Thanksgiving.
Bush985 Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Apple Hill is awesome! There are a ton of places to stop on the way up there. Some places have events on weekends, Harvest Festivals, etc. etc. The food is amazing, and the fresh apple juice even better. Check it out. I used to live about 25 mins from there, near Placerville. -RD
cfc Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Mmm--sign me up for some schnitzel. I'm an ex-pat northern Californian, myself--grew up in Patterson, which is on Highway 33 between Westley and Crows Landing (that ought to pinpoint it for you). My older brother lives in Sac, and he and his family used to go up to Apple Hill every year.
Hattuchili Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 LOL, another great Photo TR, Wally. It looks like you had a good time there! Clausthaler is a nice German beer. From time to time I have one or two! However, up to the Bavarian Hills pictres. Why is everyone thinking, Germany looks like that? Bavaria is only a little part of Germany, and be sure it looks really different in the rest of the country! Anyway, nice pictures and thanks for posting! --Sören
MrsPhishy Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 ^ Yeah, I think Bavaria is what I typically picture when I think of Germany, but I believe you that there is a lot more to Germany than Festhauses. Someday we'll make it over there to see for ourselves all the different parts of Germany. Does the rest of the country have yummy food like that? German potato salad...mmm..mmm...good.
Hattuchili Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 ^ Oh yeah, the German potato salad. I really like it! However, I think original German food is a little different to US food! But it is not only Sauerkraut and Bratwurst! Be sure, when you are in Germany, then we will go to a nice German restaurant, for good food and beer! --Sören
Machtin Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 You went to a Bavarian restaurant and got meat pie there? Once and for all, this is no authentical German food at all. If you went to a restaurant in Germany and tried to order a genuine German "Fleischkuchen", you would see some very confused faces I think most of the Germans wouldn't even know what a meat pie actually is because it's so uncommon here. Sorry for my little ethnological excursion, I just wanted to rectify this.
PhishyBrewer Posted October 31, 2005 Author Posted October 31, 2005 ^I wouldn’t call anything in California authentic. Not even Mexican food.
Chrissie Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 When I think of Germany, I think of my old German Teacher from School :?
F1shy Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Wally... you should come over to Germany sometime... American beer tastes like water compared to German beer. Other than that, very nice TR as always =D
SLUSHIE Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 There was an Apple Hill grower selling candy and carmel apples at my school today. I wounder if it was just a Haloween thing or if they are going to continue doing it. There were two radio station that were there around lunch time. I have no idea what they were doing, I didn't stick around after they set their stuff up.
PhishyBrewer Posted November 1, 2005 Author Posted November 1, 2005 Wally... you should come over to Germany sometime... American beer tastes like water compared to German beer. Other than that, very nice TR as always =D Next year... the PhishyBrewer Beer Tour is being planned. Belgium, France and Germany!
