Why do lift hills count toward the ride time? Sure you are on the ride and sure it is moving but is that really part of the ride? When a ride is say 2 minutes and 30 seconds but the lift hills takes 1 minute 45 seconds that leaves only 45 seconds of ride. If the lift is a launch like Maverick or Hot Rod then that's part of the ride.

I'd say lifts do but I wouldn't count time on the brake run.

Well yeah if they counted the brakes then Pony Express would be a five minute ride instead of a 36 second one.

Yeah I guess that is a good point.

I've heard two terms mentioned over the years:

"Ride Time" - Which is the complete length of the ride, station to station.

"Fly Time" - Which is the part of the coaster from which a train drops from the lift or launches, etc. Basically the time in which the train is in motion on it's own.

Feel free to use those terms how you see fit.

Wow so Pony Express is a record holder! Station to Station is almost ten minutes. At least when there are two trains running.

Basically what Robb said. Overall ride time is more important, but I do like to consider the length of the active experience when looking at a coaster.

Not to mention, how else would you classify a boomerang?

Including all the time spent moving, Temple of the Nighthawk is about a 5 minute ride (I timed it), yet excluding the 3 list hills, and the final time when you are just moving to the station (which takes a minute) the ride time is actually only about 2 minutes.

Why does it matter?

Whatever floats your boat. Quite a sad and boring discussion if you ask me.

No one is forcing you to take part in the discussion. If you find it boring and pointless then why are you even here posting?

Oh, SNAP! It's about to get real!

It helps me keep track of posters who may be potential problems down the road on TPR.

That's fair. I'll make sure I'm not one of them.
