CPSFMMCW
Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend Kings Dominions very own birthday party! It was a very good event, and lots of fun. Crowds at the park werent too bad, but could've been better. Even with the new queue, Volcano still gets a very long line. Flight of Fear and Dominator also had pretty long lines throughout the day. We had 6 hours to hang around the park before the dinner, which was plenty of time to ride almost everything at least once. Including the ERT on i305, here was my ride count for the day: Shockwave-1 Avalanche-1 Dominator-1 Grizzly-1 Volcano-2 Hurler-1 Rebel Yell-1 Intimidator 305-10 Backlot Stunt Coaster-1 Anyways, onto the photos! Who's ready for a Great day? KD welcomes us! Too bad this isn't edible... Check in time was at 12, so since I arrived early, I decided to ride a few coasters first, so I went to the ones that I knew would have short lines, ie, shockwave. Unfortunately, there were no plans for ERT on the shrooms. I went for back row, and it actually wasn't as bad as you might think. It pulls some good G's ...And a zebra. Gotta love that Disney level of detail. Avalanche was running 3 trains, which was nice. I also had a little leftover time, so I went into Safari Village. By the time I got off avalanche, it was time to check in! Check in was at the Eiffel Tower, and by the time I had go there, there was already a line. The retheme to safari village meant we needed some new theming! So KD added a giraffe. The schedule for the day was on the back Once you checked in, they gave you a cool lanyard with a lamented Birthday Bash card. Don't forget 2 free skip the line passes! I used both of mine on Volcano, naturally. Front row both times! Here were the options for which rides you could've skipped the line for. They also gave you a complimentary pin! Nice! After checking in, I just went around the park hitting up rides. The dinner wasn't until 6, so lots of free time! Sorry eagles! Your line isn't worth skipping! Hurler was finally up and running. It had been closed the past few weeks. Drop tower was broken down all day. The drop mechanism was stuck half way up the tower. The crypt was also up and running. Here at KD, there are two types of people. Those that will watch the crypt, and those who will ride it. Eiffel Tower anyone? They loved the camera. The clown band!!! CPSFMMCW
More photos from the Birthday Bash! I also went to Boo Blasters...guilty pleasure ride for sure. When you walked in, they greeted you with KD magazines to take home! The opening page with a note from Pat Jones, the GM of KD. Oh, and did I mention that they also gave us singing mushrooms posters? There's plenty to go around. I hit dominator around 4:30, since that was the point where it had the shortest line. They also had a live band playing. They were very good. Time for food. Cool stuff inside! So I grabbed like 5 of them. I think i'll end with a photo of the mushrooms at night. Thanks KD for an awesome event! This photo isn't the best quality, but it is of Pat Jones giving a brief little speech welcoming us all here. After that, she went around and talked to everyone. I got to meet her, which was cool! She's a nice lady. I was at the Point where I had ridden everything, so I took my first ever stroll through dinosaurs alive, since it is now free for gold pass holders. Huh. No line. Oh well! More for me! Enough fun and games, it's time for ERT on i305! I rode front row so many times...it's even better at night. And just like that, it was 6:00! We were originally suppose to meet at Outer Hanks, but due to the rain, they moved the location to a pavilion. We played Kings Dominion bingo. And ate birthday cake! If you won, then you could've gotten a wheel from one of the coasters! I didn't win, but the guy who did win took home a wheel from volcano! Tropical7
^It's strange that you mention that, KD's sister park, Kings Island, didn't have their Drop Tower running either the last that I have heard of it. Thanks for the PTR, it looks like KD really pulled out the stops for you guys at KD!

redfoot12
I agree about Pat Jones being a nice lady. I remember chatting with her opening weekend of I305. She seemed overwhelmed with joy that KD had gotten such a top-notch coaster. She really loves this park.

palmerleeberry
Ah-ha, there you are, the photo trip report I've been waiting for in which I thought it would appear on the main Kings Dominion thread, but appears in this one instead. It appears that the T-storm that hit ( or try to hit) the park didn't ruin the birthday bash, just alter the venues a bit. On the note of the animals that were placed around Safari Village, I should also add that the Peanuts Easter Eggs were still around, although Lucy's and Peppermint Patty's eggs were moved to the ground surrounding the Eiffel Tower. I think they will stay there until the spring bash is over and the "We're open every day" season begins. kINGS dOMINION - BETCHA YOU CAN'T DO IT ALL!!! It was storming insanely down in richmond the whole time with even a little bit of rain, but the most we got was a light drizzle and some dark clouds. Which I liked since that meant that the sun was blocked, so it was a nice cool day.
