Line jumping and smoking in queue line are unbearable for me, stupid comments won't bother me if they don't say wrong things about NTaG accident. When waiting gets boring, I make stupid comments for fun as well.

But general public or not, if your shoes are dirty and you step on a coaster seat, that's way too selfish.

^I agree with that.

Enthusiasts are mostly terrible to deal with at theme parks too! The "holier than thou" attitude that some display creates just as many problems for employees. When I worked at SFMM during CoasterCon, parts were stolen from RRv.

Off topic, what is RRv? I know I'll seem so stupid.

-people that think that since they traveled so far and paid so many dollars to get in, they should get special treatment.

-people that slow things down by breaking rules (trying to bring their child that's not tall enough on a big coaster).

Though the second example can be an honest mistake, I guess I could see why you'd have a problem with these things...

-people that think that the world's best coasters are the tallest and fastest by default.

-people that think a ride is bad because it has no "loop-de-loops".

...but I have no idea why you'd have a problem with these things. The fact is, your favorite coaster is always a matter of opinion. If someone likes coasters with a lot of loops, then who are you to tell them that another coaster is better? That's unbelievably arrogant.

For example, my girlfriend who has now been on about 150 coasters thanks to me dragging her to a ton of parks doesn't always agree with the "enthusiast opinion" of what rides she's supposed to like. She thinks Gatekeeper is the greatest coaster ever built. She likes it better than El Toro, Millennium Force, Intimidator 305, Maverick, Kumba, Bizarro, Phoenix and obviously many others. I don't agree with her ranking at all, but at the same time I don't have to because it's a matter of opinion. If riding Gatekeeper makes her really happy then that's awesome!

When enthusiasts take issue with other people's opinions on coasters on coasters and imply that they're "wrong" for thinking certain coasters are better than others then they're taking a hobby that's supposed to be fun way too seriously.

Yeah, you're right. I guess I was somewhat rude to the GP in that aspect. They are entitled to their opinion. However, there are plenty of other users on TPR that would get annoyed if someone said their favorite coaster was something like an SLC or an Arrow Corkscrew, so it's not fair to just blame me.

  • 4 weeks later...

Even though there are several things that annoy me about the GP, one thing I feel some enthusiasts are too harsh on is when people mess up statistics (when they are reasonable), such as when someone says "I think this ride goes 70 mph", and then some enthusiast responds "Nope. It goes 75 mph. You're an idiot." I think that's a little much. If they said something like "It goes 600 mph", then that might get irritating, but I really don't have a problem with off-statistics when people sound reasonable about the subject. The GP does not spend 3 hours a day studying coaster statistics (well, I don't either...), so I think they should be cut some slack in that area.
