TheMaxster
I'm so glad Australia's coaster drought is over. Hopefully the park will make enough money of of this to fix itself up and become a major attraction for Perth.
_koppen
Oh dang! That is a lot of progress in little time. Looks awesome, and I hope it rides as good as Lynet does, which I have no doubt it will. I'm excepting lap-bars only here.
australianalex
Hate to break it to you guys but it's already been shown that it'll have OTSR's Can't believe how quick construction is going! Looks like it'll differ from Saw after all, though it still has the immelman and MCBR. Maybe it'll have most of the same elements, just with different shaping to fit the area? Definitely a custom layout though.
_koppen
Hate to break it to you guys but it's already been shown that it'll have OTSR's Damn! Why not make a good ride great? Oh well, it will still be awesome though, I loved Saw.

australianalex
Lift hill finished! The overbank following the immelman seems similar to Saw's, but much tighter. This probably supports the theory of a modified Saw layout. However Adventureworld are now saying the ride will have 4 inversions, so either the overbank will now be counted as a cutback type element or there is an extra inversion that we don't know about. Also judging by the position of the MCBR and final brake run, it seems perhaps there will be a left hand turning drop off the MCBR into a diveloop (assuming it sticks with the Saw layout) before rising to the left into the final brake run. deano
'ABYSS' Ride is officially named!! Adventure world are running a comp tonight at 12.13 (13 minutes past midnight on Friday the 13th) to be the first rider. Source: http://www.7perth.com.au/view/today-tonight-articles/today-tonight-rollercoaster-reveal/ Article: Its' been years in the planning - months in construction and now the biggest thrill ride ever to be built in W.A is revealed - the 12 million dollar rollercoaster at Adventure World has been named Abyss - Adventure World boss Mark Shaw says Abyss will be the first real theme ride Perth's ever seen and it's not for the faint hearted. The roller coaster was constructed in Germany - the scary theming has been built at a special facility in the Philippines which specialises in theme park fit outs around the world - a massive gateway will lead riders through a waste land protected by druid guardians - riders will speed past upturned trees with ravens watching over them. "The ride's called Abyss and that is a reflection of some of the ride elements particularly inside the dark side of the building there's a bit of plunge there and the ride theme has the guardians of the Abyss which protect the ride and the powers of the ride it has these strange powers that overcome you" Without doubt this is going to be the most exciting part of this ride, its 30 metres straight up in the air and you know what they say what goes up must come down. As you approach the crest you'll go over the crest into a more than vertical drop will pick up speed up to 85 km/h " There are four inversions on the ride as well as a zero G roll and a dark section and more twists and turns than a crime thriller - all that equals the white knuckle ride of your life. Is this going to be like anything Perth has seen before? No this is a totally new experience i mean the coaster itself is world class four inversions a 30 metre tower there with more than vertical drop 85 km/h " Construction at Adventure World is continuing at a frantic pace - the ride is slated to open at the beginning of November and if you think you're up for it you can win your chance to be the first member of the public to take the ride. We're about to launch a very special competition which opens at 13 minutes past midnight on Friday the 13th and basically it's an online game where you collect points and the two teams with the most points will be the chosen ones and they will be the first to ride the ride on the media launch night it's a very special night" To enter the competion you have to log on and play the game online - Adventure World Roller Coaster Competition http://www.chosenones.com.au ( competition goes live at 12.13 am Friday 13th September ) Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/TheChosenOnesOfficial Screenshot of countdown from Chosen Ones website
ozziboy
The name and theme of the new attraction was finally revealed in a report on the local TV network here. It is named "Abyss" and its theme involves those cloaked druid "Guardians" keeping watch over the 'gateway' to the Abyss. The report showed a factory fabricating a lot of sculpted 'stone' Guardian figures, skulls, ravens, medieval and stone-type props. Tonight, 13 minutes past midnight, they launch their online competition to be selected as 'the chosen ones' and first to ride when it opens, which the report said should be early November. Adventure World has just posted a new video to launch the name: [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] sorry - just pipped by deano's post! ernierocker
It's official! Adventure World announces Abyss, a Gerstlauer Eurofighter to open this November! Play the online game and you could be the first one to ride! THE CHOSEN ONES: THE FIRST TO PLUNGE INTO ADVENTURE WORLD’S ‘ABYSS’ Following months under lock and key and surrounded by the tightest security, Adventure World has chosen Friday the 13th to reveal the name, logo and story behind the theme of its new $12 million world class roller coaster “Abyss” due to open this November. Abyss will plunge the brave souls who travel on it into a black hole to experience adrenaline pumping exhilaration. The theme of ancient druid Guardians of the all-powerful Abyss has inspired both the coaster's theme and an online game, The Chosen Ones. The Chosen Ones – is an online team-based treasure hunt with a money-can’t-buy prize. The two teams who complete the game and collect the most points will receive the priceless experience of being the very first to ride the coaster at the official red carpet VIP launch event. Each team will also receive a total prize package valued at $750 including season passes and official merchandise. The Chosen Ones game story starts at the dawning of time, where Guardians have been protecting the world from the dark power of the Abyss. A rogue is now in search of the stones that will unlock this unearthly power. The Chosen Ones need to find the stones and stop the rogue from unleashing the dark power of Abyss on the world. This unnerving and eerie theme will encompass the entire roller coaster area at Adventure World. The landscape will feature 30 nine foot tall Guardians scattered throughout the mysterious terrain. Massive upturned trees with exposed roots will create a spooky underworld atmosphere. An intimidating themed arch will loom overhead the entrance and create the feeling of impending doom. With ancient stone statues and foreboding themed soundtrack, the mood will be ominous as thrill seekers wait to experience the power of the Abyss. CEO of Adventure World, Mark Shaw, said his entire team was incredibly excited about the announcement of Abyss, particularly because this latest milestone brings the launch of the coaster one step closer. “We think the name reflects what is going to be a white-knuckle ride filled with trepidation of the unknown, the likes of which visitors to any theme park in Australia won't have experienced,” Mr Shaw said. “And we’re absolutely thrilled to give eight fearless riders the opportunity to be in the first carriage at the VIP and media launch event, simply by playing The Chosen Ones online. We have a feeling this competition is going to attract unprecedented interest and we believe it’s going to be one of the most talked about prizes.” The Chosen Ones online game will be live at 12.13AM on Friday 13th September at http://www.chosenones.com.au. Registrations are open now. The official Facebook page is – http://www.facebook.com/TheChosenOnesOfficial Boasting the latest and most advanced ride technology in Australia, Abyss will reach -1 to 4.5 G-Forces – a thrust greater than that experienced during a space shuttle launch. Already billed as Australia’s most thrilling rollercoaster, Abyss is the single largest investment at Adventure World since it launched in 1982 and features a unique 10 storey high vertical lift, a more than vertical 100 feet drop, giant G-Force turns and head spinning twists. The Gerstlauer custom built coaster also includes four inversions through daylight and a secret dark ride section as well as a zero-g-roll, rollover loop, cobra roll and inline loop. Offering a hair raising journey over 630 metres, riders will experience turns, drops and disorienting twist while they travel in the open air and in the dark. Adventure World opens its doors for the 2013/2014 season on 26 September 2013. Season Passes are available at discounted early bird rates until 30 September 2013 via Adventure World reception and at adventureworld.net.au. Blatch
Australia needed some sort of bright spot out of this winter season, and it looks like they got it with this awesome looking coaster. If you know my home park, you know that I'm excited for any park that can afford to put in a Eurofighter. And hey, that online game sounds like something Hershey would do. deano
Track work completed, the full layout is now visible. Hopefully they are not far away from testing but there is no sign of cars onsite yet. It looks like they have started taking delivery of the theming as well. Tower in all of it's through the trees glory Overbank or inversion? Theming has arrived! looks like the hooded figures to me Track below ground level, a possible tunnel section? Jimmy "Dingo ate my baby!" Bo If they don't get out much then I reckon a trip over to Perth is probably a rarity for them too haha...Awesome we have a Eurofighter in the country, but Perth is a bit of an isolated city and a 3-4 hour flight from the populated eastern states where the rest of our parks are. deano
Had another look at Abyss today, very little in the way of progress outside, who knows what they've been up to inside the warehouse though. This section has been closed in this week These guys were grinding a join in the track The enclosed section is now completely... enclosed Wonder where this straight piece of track belongs? New boundary fence As good a place as any to have a rest No movement on the theming, the hooded guys are still wrapped up
