krakenmaniac Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 If anyone watches Survivor, this is a thread to discuss about the season as it goes on.
bert425 Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 ok. we're not watching it any more. We watched the first 3 episodes and are out. horrible season, the "favorites" are a joke (they were originally 2nd chance folks. .but the Producers couldn't get enough who were willing to sign back on -- you GO "Shambo"). two extreme camera hogs (crazy ones at that) in Phillip and Hantz, and not a single very likeable player on the team (unless you squint a bit for Dawn). .but what they did to Franchesca? Inexcusable and downright evil. the fact that Brenda - one of the most interesting & calculating Survivor contestants ever, has been reduced to "background" on the "favorites" tribe? yeah. . unwatchable. and then over on the Fans side, what could have been interesting, has been rendered moot by camera/drama-hog Shamar. One of the most thoroughly unpleasant contestants ever on the show. . and that's saying a LOT. the last two voted out on the fans side? We didn't even get to know them well. . since all the camera time is being eaten up by Shamar, we're out, and instead are watching "Arrow" on Wednesdays now.
cmullin Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 I have watched the past 6 or 7 seasons and this is BY FAR the worst one. I'm not sure I am going to be able to finish it.
larrygator Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 (edited) I'm enjoying the season. Shamar is the new Richard Hatch. I hate them both. As far as the Favorites. I certainly didn't view many of them as "favorites" and most are not likable. I agree there aren't many likable ones, but I do like Dawn, Malcolm and sometimes Brandon. I think Brenda learned her lesson after her previous appearance and is laying low, which is cool because she is easy on the eyes. I think Philip and Cochran are great characters even though I dislike both of them. I'm surprised Colton did not end up in the cast. Edited March 4, 2013 by larrygator
Divv3k Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I think this season is shaping up pretty good too. I think you just need to accept that the terms "Fans" and "Favourites" are being used very loosely here. You can hardly be surprised that Phillip, Brandon and Cochran are back as they all make great TV. I don't see why voting out Francesca first is inexcusable... Why should players not play the game they want to just because she happened to be voted out first? Plus it made some excellent viewing seeing her go first. As much as I liked Brenda first time around I think her goose is cooked, almost no airtime and on the wrong side of the numbers at the minute, I can't see her being a key player this season. Hope I'm wrong though as I do like her. Really pleased to see Cochran back as he got such a poor table draw last time around, this time it's almost the opposite - pretty much everyone on his tribe likes him it appears. Hopefully he can actually use that position to make some good moves this season. I think it's been a solid start to the season without being anything really spectacular, but with some good battles brewing on both tribes plus a tribe swap almost certain to come up soon I think this season has loads of potential.
gisco Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 My only problem with Survivor is that the whole show has become all social. Kind of like Big Brother on an island. Where is the surviving anymore? When is the last time you have seen anyone fish? It doesn't appear that they get too hungry. Is anyone else a little bummed and think we get short changed when the combine the reward and immunity challenge?

Yeah I have started to notice that recently...I liked it more when they had more variety on their challenges. There are also not very many exciting ones anymore I think.
azza29 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Just when I thought this show was getting boring, Brandon comes along and demonstrates that his uncle was the normal one! Part of me loved it for being great TV, but the other part of me wonders if that kid is seriously messed up in the head...
larrygator Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 ^No wondering here, he's seriously messed up ^^^Looks like one tribe is going to be struggling for food for a couple of days thanks to Brandon.
Divv3k Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Well that was a fascinating, yet uncomfortable episode to watch. I think this exemplified why Jeff Probst is so good at doing what he does. He managed to control the situation yet still get the story told in a way that worked for the show's narrative. Surely had this not happened then Brandon would have been pulled from the game anyway for making physical threats. The real question to come out all of this is whether he should have been there in the first place? Like I said - fascinating to watch but I'm actually more excited about the tribe shake-up next week to see if we can have some good strategic play arise from this season.
gisco Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Brandon should not have been out there. He has mental problems. His mood swings were to the extreme. I can't wait to see the ribes comments after that big blow up.
Divv3k Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Wow, so this season has gotten REALLY good in the last few weeks! Malcolm pulling out the second idol made for some awesome TV! I do think he could have used it as an opportunity to get himself into a better standing in the game though. Had he been able to get the big alliance to turn on each other he really would have been sitting in a much improved spot. I just love how this season has turned in the last few weeks. I hope it continues on this path!
Nrthwnd Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Brandon now gone. The "extra immunity idol" brought out Been more interesting, last few episodes.
azza29 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 This series has definitely picked up. I'll miss Phillip though - didn't like him much but he was very entertaining. Cochran has much more confidence than last time he played - if he gets to the final 3 I think there would be quite a few votes to go his way.
larrygator Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 I haven't commented reenty but the last three epsiodes have made for great TV. Malcolm playing the second idol to drive out Phillip was great. Then the next week he can't find the hidden immunity idol with the clue with Andrea tailing him. Andrea getting possession of the idol and then getting blindsided. Andrea knew to fear Brenda. Two months ago I commented that I liked the game Brenda was playing, completely different than the last time. It looked like she would end up a the bottom of the Stealth r Us hierarchy but she is the one in charge now. At least if the Miami Dolphins can't win anything, maybe their former cheereader can. She better get rid of Eddie because he is gaining votes with the jury every week (He's already gotten Malcolm, Reynold and Andrea for sure and probably Michael also).
azza29 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 The second half of this season has definitely given us some great episodes. Politics and scheming is at the heart of this game, and it's definitely been on display in recent weeks. Still gunning for a Cochran win, also just realised that I'll be able to watch the finale 'live' for the first time ever when I'm in SF next week! (OK so still a 3 hr delay from the east coast but better than having to download it after the fact...)
Divv3k Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Wow, what a turnaround this season! Since the merge this show continues to be pure gold! I still think Malcolm made a huge mistake the night he played the two idols. He really should have tried more to make the main alliance turn on each other. Telling them they were voting for Phillip made it easy for the rest of them to stay on the same side. She better get rid of Eddie because he is gaining votes with the jury every week (He's already gotten Malcolm, Reynold and Andrea for sure and probably Michael also). I see where you're coming from but I'd hate to think that would be the case. Andrea and Malcolm at the very least should be appreciate that Eddie has played zero game this season despite how much they might like him. Andrea's reaction to her boot gives me hope that she's not bitter about being voted out was beaten by a better play. It may be through tinted specs but I now can't see past a Cochran victory - which would make me happy!
larrygator Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 ^True Andrea is a fan of the game and might look past her disappointment of being blindsided and vote for the best player. Her reaction when that second vote against her was revealed was classic, as was Brenda's giddiness having deflected the blindside towards Andrea. I really really don't want Cochran to win. I can't see Malcolm wanting to vote for anyone on his old tribe or Sherri. He never trusted Dawn or Cochran. Sherri and Eric wouldn't make the big move with him. I guess he could vote for Brenda in the end, but I think he would rather stick it to his old tribe mates.
deguy123 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Hahah Andrea laughing was pretty great and her "come on you guys". This season has picked up and I'm loving it'
gisco Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 The best part so far this season was Phillip getting voted out! I don't understand why Malcolm didn't continue to look for the idol even if Andrea was watching. It could have saved him another week. With Malcolm gone, I'm not sure who I want to win this year. Not a big fan of any of them. Maybe Brenda.
larrygator Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I don't understand why Malcolm didn't continue to look for the idol even if Andrea was watching. It could have saved him another week. I can't figure that out either. I chalk it up to either selective editing or more likely his thought was he didn't want to chance Andrea starting to dig also and finding it on her own.
larrygator Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I think we now have another jury member who will not want a Stealth R Us member (especially Dawn or Cochran) to win. I think Eddie just secured another vote, if he makes it to the Final 3.
Divv3k Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Great move to get rid of the only other credible threat to win - I think Cochran just locked it up. Dawn has all the blood on her hands, Eddie has done nothing the whole game, Erik is in a similar boat and Sherri has been a sheep since the merge. I reckon Eddie and Erik will go on Sunday with a Dawn, Sherri and Cochran final three. Even if Eddie gets there I think Cochran wins. I still only see Eddie potentially getting Reynold's vote, Malcolm's at a push (I still think he'll vote for Cochran). Apart from three boring episodes pre-merge this has been a brilliant season for unpredictability.
