Sir Clinksalot Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Hey TPR Members: Kristi and I are leaving on our East Coast Trip this Thursday. We were supposed to go to BGW on Friday but we found out that SFGADV is having a Passholder night this Friday. I called the park yesterday to make sure we could get in with our SFMM pass. We are good to go. Are any other TPR members going? Would love to meet up with some peeps if possible. Also, if anybody has ever done these before, can you tell me how busy it will be. We are planning on getting Q-bot and if we don't ride KK it won't be the end of the world. Thanks.
robbalvey Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Wow. With as many times as you guys have changed your plans, I can't wait to see where you ACTUALLY end up going! --Robb "You sure you won't end up in Israel or somethig?" Alvey
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 ^ This is just our set-up for "Where in the World are Gregg and Kristi" ... Q: Are we really going to the East Coast??? A: Yes we are. Gregg "The only day that keeps chaning is Friday" C.
Meteornotes Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 The passholder nights are usually INSANELY busy. They might not have QBot available during it either, as it's a special event. Good luck... dt
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 ^crap Kristi "who knows where we will end up now!!" C.
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 ^ Were not changing again ... we will just have to deal with it. No biggie.
robbalvey Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 ^ Wait a second. So if someone tells you that it might be a hellish night, possibly without Q-Bot and the option to do a nice, non-busy day at BGW is still there, you'll take the hellish night option because you don't want to change your mind again? That makes no sense! You're spending all this money to travel to parks you've never been to, try to make it the BEST, least hassle trip it can be! My advice: Ask around, see if someone like the Quaker (who I think has been to the passholder events before) or Derek who might be able to help give you some feedback on the passholder event, then take all the input you've gotten and make a good, educated decision based on the feedback. And THEN decide if you want to change your plans to do BGW or stick with SFGadv. Don't change your plans to something crappy on a whim. Do what will give you the best possible trip and the parks you choose! --Robb "You said you wanted our advice on trips so I'm giving it!" Alvey
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 ^ I know, but we already changed hotels for Friday night, etc. I dunno ... I guess we will just have to wait and see if we get any other feedback on the park for that night.
Alexander Nagel Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Well it's hard to say...Some of them have been crowded and some have been not. I think it will really all depend on the weather. The warmer the worse it will be most likely. Then again since it's the weekend before fright fest starts it may be okay. Either way it sound like your locked in and either way I don't expect it to be THAT bad.
GAcoaster Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 It probably won't be busy. Most people won't bother coming out on a Friday night even when it's Frigth Fest, and a non-Fright Fest night shouldn't be too bad.
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 Just called the park and they will have Q-bot on Friday. So that's good. Hopefully it won't be too busy where we have to get the Gold since it's pretty pricey at that park.
QuakerOaties Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 (edited) With my long history with Six Flags Great Adventure, I hate to say it but I have to play the role of the cynicist in this thread. I have been to past season passholder nights (Which sucked due to awful operations and huge crowds), but those were different from the one this friday in how those were normal park days that simply stayed open longer for season passholders. This season passholders event is not on a regular operating day so I have some SERIOUS doubts about how well the park will be running since they will be making no money on the gate that day. Heres how I see your day going... I can imagine that you'll get to Six Flags and many of the rides will not yet be open. Superman, Nitro, Kingda Ka and Chiller I can almost guarantee will not be open until six or later. The last time I was at Six Flags there were some major staffing issues due to many of their seasonal employees going back to college, though since Rolling Thunder, Taz Twister, and Rodeo Stampede are now closed for the season, that may not be as much of a problem these days. Basically what I'm trying to get it is since the park will be making no money on the gate and is opening that day exclusively for passholders, what incentive do they have to adequately staff the rides? They have a brand new wooden roller coaster coming next year and thats more than enough to get people to buy season passes again. My recommendation is to just go to Busch Gardens. I think you would have a much more relaxing time there rather than dealing with Six Flags and the diaster that is their season passholder nights. Mark "I do like Sfgadv! I swear!" DerekRx Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I've never been to a passholder day, and I probably never will. To me (who lives 1.5 hours from the park) I'd rather go to Busch Gardens, PKD, Kennywood or any other park 4 hours away from me, especially in the Spring or Fall when half of SFGAd's rides will more than likely be closed. If you're going simply because you want to get on Kingda Ka, don't hold your breath. If the park expects not many people to show up, I doubt they'll have the 8 mechanics on site (that means $$$). Besides that, if there is no Qbot (which they may not even sell being they're only opened for 5 hours), chances are you won't get on all the coasters. Whats more, why bother going when you gotta head back next year for another coaster? I doubt it will be that crowded, as most people won't even bother going (most people work until 5), but those that will be there are gonna be intending to ride Ka. Oh, and pretty much expect the park to be operating 1 train on every coaster if the crowds are lite, as the staff is back towards minimal with this change in the season. Originally my friends and I were planning on doing BGW on Friday and PKD on Saturday, driving home on Sunday. When we found out PKD was closed for a private event all weekend, we just decided to do BGW. Notice how much any of us care about riding Kingda Ka or visiting SFGAd? One of my best friends and regional rep still haven't been to SFGAd this season, and he isn't planning on going. I still think the smartest thing Robb and Elissa did was postpone their trip till next year, and I actually like spending time with them, even outside of the theme parks!
Nitro X 230 Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I will almost surely be there. I'd be happy to meet up. It really shouldn't be that bad with crowds.... Listen to GAcoaster, he has gone to the park at least once every week for years! Operations won't be bad. I went for SP holders only on Easter, it was opening weekend, and they were running everything with two trains. Of course Ka wasn't open.... :?
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 Thanks everyone for all the help!! Kristi "still not sure what we are doing on Friday besides DC stuff!!" C.
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 Basically this was a park that we wanted to go to, but it wasn't in our plans. We have never been to this park. Never have been on a B&M Hyper, etc, etc, etc. So KK is NOT the only reason we are going. When we heard they would be open on Friday we changed our plans because we didn't really want to drive from BGW to Allentown on a Friday night. We are already planning on being back in the area next year, so if we don't get on everything it's really not that big of a deal. Gregg "This is strictly an "add-on" park." C.
robbalvey Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Did I not say twice in this thread that we aren't going just to ride KK? People were just trying to help. No need to snap at them! Thanks to everyone who has responded so far. This has actually been educational for me too, as I haven't been to a "Passholder Event" in a long, long time! --Robb "Last one I think was PKD in like 1999!" Alvey
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 (edited) ^ I edited my post ... I realized that. Nitro X 230 ... if you will be there let us know before Wednesday (we won't have internet access after Wednesday night) and we can meet up. You pick the place as I have no idea where in the park would be a good place to meet. Edited September 19, 2005 by Sir Clinksalot
Rider117 Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Well, if thats the case you will be fine. The only ride I see not opening on time is Kingda Ka. Everything else should be running fine... I will be there that night and I don't expect the crowds to be that bad and plus the food is 40% off, so it looks like I am going to buy food actually at the park! Have fun, you'll like Nitro and IMO the under-rated coaster B:TR!
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 I agree Robb, Gregg was being snotty and all everyone has done is try to help us. I appreciate all the feedback. Kristi "apologizing for my husbands attitude" C.
zburns999 Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Sorry for going off topic, but what other parks are you going to?
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 Knoebels on Saturday and Dorney on Sunday
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 Sorry for going off topic, but what other parks are you going to? We actually have a meet scheduled for Knoebels on Saturday: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18562 Gregg "So far it's just Kristi and I" C.
zburns999 Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I was almost going to go to Knoebels on Saturday. If only that stupid race didn't move back a week. Sorry.
CoasterFanatic Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I would probably choose BGW, but since you are going to be in that area for the rest of the weekend, just go to SFGAdv and let the cards fall as they may. I went this past weekend and here is the info I can give you. - Gold will be a waste unless it is SUPER crowded - Rolling Thunder and the Break Dance will NOT be running - If possible, go early get the bot -> Queue KK -> Ride Superman ->Return to KK - Ka was having some issues Saturday and was down to 2 trains by days end - Nitro is a "Do not miss" attraction. If you have to choose ... choose Nitro - The parachutes were being operated by one person (2 of 8 running)! - Expect every flat ride to be closed (or damn near) If you have any other questions, just ask.
