Besides Olympia, do you know what other rides are going to the Sommerdom?

I am considering going to Hamburg just to check Olympia Looping out!

Thanks!

...and a can of worms, for the coaster counters; this is an extension to an existing (refurbished) Wilde Maus, apparently one of the two once operated by Kinzler. New credit or not?

Wow, that thing is huge for a mouse! One thing I did notice on the pictures, everything looks brand new except the transfer track (very last picture).

This week I saw some trucks by showmen Steiger (60m ferris wheel) and Rüth (Break Dancer and Take-Off) when I was driving to work on B4/B5 form highway exit Stellingen - really hikes up the anticipation of one month "Carnival Next Door"....

The owner mentioned in one interview that all companies were delayed in the production period and that on the first opening date not everything will be ready (for example the funhouse part during the queue). And that the track looks so old is because the mouse coaster is build of an old used Mack-Mouse which was for sale and then enlarged by the Mack to a bigger one.

So a big part of the track is the old one and some parts are brand new... and i think they will paint the last parts too after the premiere on the Hamburger Dom.

More in informations (in german) and one pic (of the unpainted coaster) on:

I drove past the fairgrounds yesterday and they have about half of the Wildemaus XXL up. I didn't have time to stop and get a picture, but if the weather is nice® today, I'll see if I can make it happen. The track that was already standing does look newly painted, and there is an "extra" curve after where the lift hill would have been on a traditional Wildemaus. I can't explain it very well, but you'll see what I mean if I can post a picture

7 days to go...

And only that many days until I can ride a real beast of portable ride again which was avoiding Hamburg for some years: The Transformer!

The Transformer seems like it's right up there with a lot of the "hardcore" flats like the Airwolf and the Flying Circus.

That looks like 5 minutes of pure TORTURE if you ask me! How can anyone call that "fun"?!?! It looks totally cool, but I would be puking after the first 30 seconds.

Ok folks, here are some real-life pictures of the new Wildemaus XXL!

Here you can see how far along they are with the set-up. Considering they have an entire week until the fair opens, I am assuming they want to get it together soon so they can do adequate testing and get their T.Ü.V. approval.

In this (much better) picture, you can see the "extra curve" I was talking about in the old part of the ride's course. The highest part of the track in this photo is the first turn after the new lift hill. The track that is already in place on the far right is where the old lift hill was. After that tops out, you can see there is now a 180 degree turn where there used to be a 90 degree turn.

Sommerdom 2012 - Part 1/2

Finally Sommderdom time is here and while the weather was mediocre at best in the last weeks it dried

just in time and will be sunny at least for the coming week.

This year saw of course the return of some rides like the Olympia Looping, Steiger 60m Ferris Wheel,

Waveswinger and the musicexpress Action and Love Dream as well as the waterrides Atlantis Rafting and

Wildwasser. Next to these some seldom seen rides attend this summer like the Take-Off and Transformer.

New this year is the Wilde Maus XXL which runs ultra-smooth even in the refurbished old part of the

mouse. With the added layout this ride now nearly has the dimensions of a Schwarzkopf Silverarrow.

After years finally the Transformer came back. And despite being an older high-thrill ride it always

ran packed to capacity with a very good 6+ minute program offering both - high Gs and insane inverted

hangtime.

Ghosthouse darkride with inverted cars.

I spot a Wild Mouse very high up...

nice ride ...with nice backwall painting...

This italian machine is insane...

Happy riders...

The Take-Off with the best high-Gs program. Period!

No carnival is complete without a Dancer!

Huge portable log-flume ahead...

Lots of water on all levels - sufficient to get really wet...

Brandnew first drop.

This old-style simulator was quite popular with families.

More pictures from my second spin around the DOM coming soon...

Part 2/2

Laughing his ass off 24/7

Live-Bakery - offering an assortment of warm sticky buns...

This music express is "Mr. T-Approved"

Take-Off pulling Gs. This is photographed without panning. Onboard the surroundings blend into a wild blur...

DOM of course offering tons of midway games, sweet- and foodshacks and multiple Biergarten

The 2nd music express on the DOM...

Showman Rasch is honouring his hometown: "Hamburg, my pearl" - while "pearl" is also a nickname here for a

beautiful woman...

In the "Pirate Canteen" you can get all the good stuff!

Old ride - formerly known as "Bavarian Schunkler" - newly themed.

I guess this kind of ride would get no permission in the US - people flying freely around, clinging at the bars...

Nighttime PhotoTR coming hopefully soon...
