thrillrider
This weekend we were able to get our first coaster rides of 2012. The park....Kings Island. The park looked really nice, and the crowds were heavy. Even with the crazy crowds, we were able to get all of the coasters and a few other things done. We were in the park for half a day on sat, and a few hours on sunday. We were also lucky enough to be part of the new travel channel show that will air in june. On our way home sunday, we stopped by the air force museum as well. Enjoy the pictures. Before we hit the park, we must consume some skyline chili. I love this stuff. Skyline chili was located right next to the beach waterpark that is now closed. Not sure if these are the slides from the park being dismantled ? Never been there, but I hear it was a nice park. Enough of that, and onto kings island. As soon as we pulled in, we noticed that the parking lot was nearly full, and there were about 120 busses. The season pass line was long, but moved fast. Invertigo was sporting a new paint job. The fist change that I noticed, was that the security check was now gone. The 40'th logo. Drop tower and windseeker were both not working today. In case you forgot where we are. Kings island is a beautiful park. Is this the real tower? New park maps. First coaster of the year. The line was very long. The sign said 90 min, but the line was actualy just under an hour. The beast is running great this year. It has lots of new wood. Having fun while in line. Vortex Vortex also had a long line. They were filming for a new show today. If you did not want to be filmed, you had to leave. Anybody remember the bat? They were filming while we were on the ride. The new station set up was weird. The front part of the station was for fast passes only. There was someone there checking fast passes. It looks as if they keep count of them on paper. Some kind of weird camera mount was being set up. New lockers near the exit of the coaster. Sorry about the blurry picture, but the glare was really bad. Garbage can the ride, was closed. Windseeker looked like it would not be open for a while. The dino 3-D film was free. A garbasourus With my glasses in hand, I headed inside. The motion seats are now gone. They have benches that you sit on now. No motion at all. As you can see, the upcharge dino attraction was very popular. Guest were just lined up to......err....nevermind. Noted. Inside the dino gift shop, they had all kinds of great gifts to give friends and family. Like these mating dinos. Dino poop...The book And the all so popular keychains. You can even have a birthday party here. Kinda like chucky cheese, but with dinosours. Swing ride The monster, was one of the rides brought over from coney island in Cinncinnati. A few changes over at the racer. Instead of two lines(one for each side), they only have one now. As you can see, it's one big station now. Outer hanks is now mexican food. Boo blasters Your ride vehicle No trip to kings island is complete without a blue ice cream. The water ride was in full effect today. Ummmm....... 2 Days into the season, and the net under diamondback has captured all kinds of things. They went to drastic steps to hide the crypt. Stunt coaster Back over at the beast, we were part of the travel channel shoot. This is where you get your ride phot More pictures soon.....stay tuned. Intimidator305
Wow the park seemed pretty crowded! I can't believe Windseeker looked like that, as you'd think since it is still the "new ride" they would have had it up and running for the season's opening. Thanks for sharing! brneff99
So are all of the Windseeker rides currently closed?? I believe the one out here at KBF has been closed for awhile now...I agree that its a one ride only required credit...but its way up there if you have any height issues...which most on this Forum would not but the GP most certainly do...but it would be a shame if this ride is already experiencing troubles across all parks... Great photos...I grew up in the Midwest long before HW existed and KI was our home park...we made almost every opening weekend back then. I got to take my 2 boys a few summers ago to both KI and HW. It was great to pass along those memories...we were actually at KI the very last day SOB operated and all got our credit...not sure how happy we all are about that one but I'm glad we got to ride it! beatle11
That's okay, there are still about a million others to ride! Glad to hear Beast is running well, and it's amazing how many people lose items on the rides. Do they still have that bucket at the Diamondback station with people's shattered cell phone remains in it?
thrillrider
Thank you. More..... One of the gift shops on main street, had a window full of 80's stuff. Diamondback riders be warned......secure your phones. Station shot Surf dog was part of the morning ert Soak city signes are now all over the park. One of the parks new shows. Unfortunatly, it was still standing. Flight deck is a great ride, but short. Some of the top gun theming is still there. The son of beast station is now used as a haunted attraction. We skipped firehawk this time around. The park is sporting new pretzels this year. 2 slices of pizza, a milk, and a cup of ice water cost me $16 bucks. This is just crazy. Random midway shot. Diamondback in all it's splashy glory As we were leaving the park, there was some kind of snoopy themed show next to the tower. As we headed out, I noticed that there was still a sign for the beach waterpark. Anybody remember the touchdown jesus? We made a pit stop to the air force museum that was not too far from kings island. If in the area, I recomend that you check it out. Drone Stealth bomber Apollo Nukes Astronaunt food Another stealth Machine gunner Artwork on a jet Even Disney was represented They even have a jet you can sit in A piece of the Berlin wall Big ass plane Bombs Oops!! Lots of classics as well. That's it for this report, I hope you enjoyed it.
Geauga Dog
Thanks for the photos. Gets me pumped for my first visit in a couple of weeks to break in my Gold Pass. I, too, love Skyline Chili and usually frequent the one you visited by The Beach before I head home. Those slides were there for a couple of years and my understanding is that they were to be installed in the park awhile back but have been sitting there. What sections were redone on Beast? Last year it was the the turn out of the shed brake they completely rebuilt. The turn after the ravine drop was a bit on the brutal side last year as the train would shimmy as it headed towards the shed. Did you notice if they gave Invertigo's train a new paint job to go with the new newly painted track? Can't imagine the green would go well with the blue paint. The turn after the ravine drop was a bit on the brutal side last year as the train would shimmy as it headed towards the shed. I felt like every turn was. Beast is as smooth as I can possibly remember. I rode it very late at night on Saturday. It was FLYING. Still not the most amazing ride and nothing Id write home about since it only does one thing and thats go REALLY fast through the woods but I had about as good a ride as I could have. It was super smooth. Fog had settled in that night with the supermoon. So the shed part was absolutely trippy since the fog was hovering in the shed and the light from the moon was being cast through the shed. Really awesome. Just wish all those straights were a bunch of hills!!!

BigDipper 80
Oh, Skyline Chili. I've been in Cincinnati for nearly a year now, and I think it's safe to say that I'm completely, hopelessly addicted to the stuff. Very nice TR. I really want to get out and experience Beast now. It's great to hear that they did such good trackwork on it over the offseason. My night rides during Haunt last year were phenomenal, and if I'd be very happy if it was running even better this year. thrillrider
The trims on the second drop seemed to cath a little harder, but besides that the ride is running stellar.
Real
...extremely boring. ^This FTW. It just doesnt do anything. It goes quickly through the woods. What makes me sad is looking at rides like Voyage, Boulder Dash and what they did with the terrain and I look at the MASSIVE area that Beast takes up and imagine "What if?". Then I get sad. lol. Sidra
Nice trip report, my daughter was drooling over this Cedar Fair offering. I wonder if all the Windseekers are down? Knotts is still down, not expected to open until Memorial day weekend. Must just be annual maintenance, getting it done before the height of the season. Intimidator305
The sign is still red and yellow. That's unfortunate, you'd think if they paid to paint the whole ride that they could have simply painted the arch and installed a new sign... I'm sure the faded warm colored sign doesn't look good at all with the newly painted cool colored ride. With the chain starting to focus more on details under the new CEO (well, atleast at KD), I'm surprised they let this slip. I hope it gets fixed. mightypotato
I love that you made it down to Dayton to check out the Air Force Museum (and the remains of Touchdown Jesus). Did you guys take the buses out to the Air Force One they have on site?
thrillrider
We drove to the museum. They did have some kind of shuttles that took you to differant parts of the place, however due to the amount of time we had we were not able to. I want to get back there to check out all the retired air force one planes. You can actually walk through them.
