TPR Facebook Page Cover Photo Contest

Recommended Posts

Sorry for being so critical on these, but I just don't feel anything that has been submitted so far is anything we would use....

I just don't think I want "people" in the image used, and the picture used is really not very flattering. It's not a good picture of Elissa, and her father is in the background with his mouth gaping open. Poor choice. And I don't think we need the TPR logo in the cover pic.

Again, I just think we don't need the TPR logo on the cover photo. Or, at least, I haven't seen a use of it that I like yet. When I think of TPR, I just don't think of "carousels."

I do actually like the idea behind this. Something more iconic, in the TPR colors, but for some reason it's not working for me. Not sure why. Maybe it's because the source of the images are actual photos? I'm honestly not sure. I think it might be too loud or busy, not sure. I do like the concept behind it, though.

Not sure why I don't think this works. Maybe it's because a carousel speaks to an older audience? Could be the "people" thing again, and also, if we were to use "People" in a picture, I'm not sure seeing the backs of people sells it well. Also the "Cedar Point" logo is pretty obvious and I think we probably shouldn't have any obvious park or company logos in the image. This one just really doesn't work.

This sort of looks like an ad for a fiber laxative. This doesn't say "theme parks and roller coasters"... AT ALL!!! What is this??? And if we were going to use any TPR logos in the image, it would have to be the actual TPR logo and font. This one is barely readable.

Again, sorry to be so critical, it's just that seeing the high amount of traffic our FB page for a theme park fan site, I really want to make sure whatever we go with stands out.

ok... read the critics too late... so i created even a more artistic one! But i used another font for it too, because i want to get NEON-Look a like style! may be you like this a little bit more but don't be upset, because i post this...i just want to show it even after your critics, because i put many hours work in it!

To my first picture... i refered to an image that you like... The TPR, gets a stone look to fit on the wall... have to admit not best decision. i wanted to go away from standards, so i think -NO direct link just an experimental design.... you didn't like it, so maybe it try something else

The idea behind this image was to create a strong iconic image that uses TPR's design language and colors while playing on the idea, "What if Theme Park Review manufactured roller coasters?".

It's just not "TPR."

Same as above. Not exactly sure what this "reads" as - it's almost too artsy.

Too amateurish.

Kind of like the idea of just "a cool picture", but this was doesn't really look like a roller coaster, it looks like a bridge. Of course, many of us all know what it is, but the FB page sort of needs to speak to an audience that is not quite as "in the know" as the forum users.

Taking notes...looks like you know what you dont want, thats for sure. Time to crank the Photoshop up.

This is always the hardest part of threads like this - We really don't know what we do want until we see it.

Here are two options we have put on the TImeline as a "temporary" image. While this isn't quite what we are really looking for either, I personally think it works better than any of the submissions so far....

So I just thought of something, commercially shot photos or photos not owned by the designer. Should they or should they not be used? I'm putting my lawyer hat on here and thinking it might not be a good idea unless the photos are included in a press kit for re-use and distribution under a license that states you can manipulate the image.

Not my call tho.

Exactly. I contacted Cedar Point about what I can and cant do with images I take - but since their rides are their property in several ways (especially ones that are iconic) basically anything that could identify it easily immediately renders it useless to make money with legally. Making posters even without a logo is basically not allowed. If you cant pick it out, then that could be ok. But otherwise, I dont see that being the smartest of moves especially since TPR - while having relationships with several parks - they still need to honor those "properties". Plus, I know at the bottom of the page is explicitly talks about not being associated with the said parks. Using an iconic image such as Dragster or Millennium Force would be a correlation to Cedar Point and its identity.

All photos taken from TPR Index

"We love theme parks and roller coasters." helps new visitors understand the foundation of TPR.

The idea is a "Ride Photo" where and when appropriate, you can insert a relevant group picture, person or event. With picture insert, you still have the main graphic as a border showing theme park rides (just like a ride photo).

Black & white allows the color of true focal points to stand out:

1. the logo

2. the photo content (color of personalities)

Color could be used if muted (maybe?) or possible a 2 or 3 color palette such at the TPR logo. With color, the logo and updated photo content could get lost.

I had to pimp Rob out like O Magazine, because I couldn't quickly find a hot chic in a star flyer pic.

Just throwing it out there. Critique away!
