Now for the more serious part. I would like to hear your ride comments on the Fabbri model of Spinning wild mouse ride. Good? bad? was it rough or fun? And most importantly. If you could improve something and anything what would it be (list several things if you want)? How do they ride compared to other companies spinners?

Just to refresh your memory, here are the Fabbri Spining Madnesses installed worldwide http://www.rcdb.com/r.htm?nm=na&co=6953&lo=95&ot=2

Thanks again,

V

^ Hey there Vellu,

We have one of these local to us at Castle Park in So Cal...to be honest...not a good ride. Very rough and somewhat low capacity. We also rode the one at Botton's in the UK. Also an uncomfortable ride. I far prefer the Maurer Shone models or even the Gerstlauer spinners.

Thanks for a quick reply Robb! Just thinking about the roughness. Could it be smoothed out with say, changing some mechanics in the trains or something? Like where does the roughness stem from. You know, in the past we've successfully managed to get someting a bit smoother as well

^ There's also one that appears each year at the Ventura County Fair with whichever company does the midway there now. I rode it in 2006 one time and haven't been back on it since. They call this one "Pole Position."

I have also only ridden the one at Castle Park and agree with Robb.

Maurer Sohne makes the best of the spinning coasters.

I know but Maurer-Söhne & Gerstlauer rides are quite expensive compared to the Fabbri one.

It will be difficult for us to balance the cost versus quality, but I will say that I think the Fabbri model has a "get what you pay for" feel to it. If you don't need as much of a "quality" attraction, but instead looking to fill a need while your other quality attractions make up for it, it's not a bad choice, but the other two options are certainly better.

The thing is, the layout is not all that fun either to be honest. I have fun on even the smaller Dragon Wagons and the roughest of Vekoma SLC coasters, but this thing was just a bland combination of boredom and pain. I would never recommend that anyone or any park invest in one.

Honestly, I enjoyed my experience on the one at Botton's, but it'd possibly be a different story if I was any taller. The one at Castle Park clearly didn't have much of an effect on me, as I don't remember anything more than Elissa being forced to ride with the heavy guys, i.e., more spinnage.

So I guess I'd say I'm not as anti-Fabbri as some might be - in fact, I think I might prefer their Spinning Mice to the Reverchon model that seems standard at most other places.

I think I almost prefer the Fabbri model to the "newer" Reverchon spinning mice (post Zamperla buy out), but the older-style Reverchon spinners did seem to move a lot quicker than the newer models or even the Fabbri ones.

^I've noticed that too, and agree with you. Of course, I really don't think either is all that great to be honest. I've only ridden a traveling variety of each, so I guess I don't have the best case of experience, but whatever, my $.02.

Yeah. I wish we could add some more tilts or a spiral to the ride but that would most likely take the "Mouse" out of it and don't know if it is even technically possible. But instead of bashing fabbri and reverchon and saying how great MS & G rides are. I'd like to hear some constructive criticism on WHAT sucks in the Spinning Madnesses out there and suggestions to improve them. I know there are a lot of technically inclined TPR members out there who can tell after riding a coaster what was wrong with it. "Aww the seat was too hard" "Aww, the donkey ate my hat"

The only thing I can offer is that the brake pressure makes all the difference on the ride, as the restaints can dig into the chest really hard if it stops fast facing the wrong way on the Fabbri coaster. It makes the difference between a decent ride and an "Ow!" ride, so to speak. That and the faster the thing rips through the course, the better ride it seems to give (to me, anyway). So basically, the lower the brake pressure, the better.

(Coming from a technical novice here, if anyone can back up or discredit what advice I'm giving here, please do. )

Magnetic breaks. Solved. NEXT!

The thing i love about spinning coaster is the spinning. Shocking isn't it? The few reverchons I've been on don't seem to be very good at spinning.

I have only been on one Fabbri (the one at Botton's). For the most part I loved it, but there was one point towards the end where everyone seemed to be slamming their necks. I don't think it was a braking issue either. I'm sorry I can't be more specific.

I rode Pole Position (owned by Butler Amusements) at the California State Fair last year and found it pretty boring.

Apart from that one, I find most spinners to provide a slightly above average coaster experience. They're fun, but not something for me to get excited about anymore. Ragin' Cajun is my favorite because of the intense spinning.

I have only been on the one at Bottons and that was several months ago so keep that in mind when reading this.

Some of the turns seemed a bit rough especially while spinning since you could be facing in any number of directions. Other than that I really didn't like rocking up the lift hill... It wasn't a bad ride IMHO but it wasn't one I would rush back for.

^^ Butler Amusements---that's the company I couldn't remember. Their midway pales to the RCS ones in the past. And we don't get the Hi-Miler anymore, either. We also used to get a Looping Star once in awhile.

I'd like to give a Maurer Sohne spinner a try sometime. A few years ago, I did ride Primeval Whirl at Animal Kingdom, but can't remember who made those two rides (I think Reverchon).

^ Correct about Reverchon building Primeval Whirl. I remember even less about it than I do the Fabbri rides I've been on, never been impressed by their spinners. MS's are brilliant, I personally think Chessington WoA's Dragon's Fury is the best example of a spinning 'coaster I've ridden - but I haven't ridden Winjas yet! Not a fan of Gerstlauer spinners, for some reason the face-to-face seating makes me nauseous in a way the MS rides don't.

The only Fabbri Spinning Mouse I've been on is Screamin' Demon at Castle Amusement Park. I don't remember much about it, but I think it was pretty unimpressive. In general, I'm not a huge fan of spinning mouse coasters. I find them to be just okay, and usually prefer a regular wild mouse to one of the spinning variety. My favorite spinning coaster is not a mouse, but is instead Sierra Sidewinder at Knott's Berry Farm. Too bad there aren't more like that around.

I think the layout is a tad too short on these models, but the spinning absolutely rocks. Castle Park's Screamin Demon had by far the most amount of spinning I've ever felt on a ride.

I've ridden Sierra Sidewinder, TH's Big Spin, Crazy Mouse, and Screamin' Demon...

From Best to worst:

1. Sierra Sidewinder: Complex layout, combines banked turns, high speeds, and terrain hugging manuevers.

2. Tony Hawk's Big Spin: Twisty layout, easy to get a really good spin, and the seating lets you see your friend's reactions.

3. Crazy Mouse (San Diego County Fair): Yeah, it's fun, but a really simple layout, and a little rough near the end.

4. Sreamin' Demon: Booooooorrring! No spining, very slow, random trim brakes and short/strange layout that makes no sense....plus I though the track was going to break because of all the buckling....yeah, no fun.

I think the different seating arrangements really help make the ride more enjoyable...hmmm maybe I should try to bring to life my spinning coaster design I drew up last year... six people facing outward, x-car-esque restraints, able to do inversions...yeah, I can dream...

Posted

What I find funny about the Fabbri model is its two-stage lift hill---halfway up one hill, a 90* left turn, then up the other half. My guess is that it saves some space?

What made me laugh the time I rode Pole Position was how the carny operating it told me that "this Italian coaster is far better than the German ones." That was pretty...WTF?!?

Primeval Whirl did zero for me when I tried it (6 times since we went at a very empty time of the year) and it made very little impression on us too. I recall not much spinning, wondering about the lame theming and cardboard cutout feel of everything (I know it's supposed to feel that way, but just seemed to be true cheapness as opposed themed cheapness), and not much else.

Pandemonium at SFNE has kind of tight seats/restraints, but the spinning works amazingly well most of the time due to the way the track twists to get the spinning started.

I rode the Fabbri at Botton's and had a really painful ride on it. It spun far more than any other spinning coaster I've been on, but not in a good way. I bashed my knee into the safety bar so hard I thought I was going to puke. The overall feel of the ride was ghetto and poorly controlled.
