Hello everybody,

 

My name is Robert Clarke, Public Relations Manager of the brand-new Boulder Leisure Park in Boulder, Colorado. This beautiful park has been in the works for a few years now, and the park has just opened for its first season! The crowds have been coming steadily all day to see all of our state-of-the-art attractions. My job is to talk to you, our loyal guests, and find out what you like or don't like about the park, and listen to your suggestions. I'll try to update all of you once or twice a week with pictures and news of the latest happenings at the park. We hope to become one of Boulder's finest summer destinations!

 

A bird's eye view of our park, taken early this morning before the park opened for the first time ever!

Our Grand Wheel is the first thing guests see when they enter the park.

Guests love our one-of-a-kind log flume, "Shoot the Chutes"!

Our most popular coaster, the Mad Mouse, features a unique double-down after the lift.

Our other coaster, Mine Train, has had a bit of opening-day jitters. We hope to have it open soon!

"The Forest" offers refreshing shade and some of the most thrilling rides in the park!

Nothing says "summer" like a warm evening in the park!

If your going for uber realism with your timeline, I'd have to question the Wild Mouse.

 

Any other buildings in the park?

 

I like the layout of the coasters. Keep the updates coming!

Yes, the Wild Mouse is a bit inaccurate. After some research, the only Wild Mouse coasters at the time were wooden. Maybe a weird alien prototype? We'll see. More to come in a few days.

There were some Schiff wild mouses open, ones at Quassy and Chippewa lake were opening in the early 1960's. I don't see anything wrong with the mouse at all.

 

Good job so far though! I suggest adding more buildings to the park and add stations to the rides, but keep up the good work!

1st Season

 

Hello Everyone!

 

Robert Clarke here to update you on all the latest happenings here at Boulder Leisure Park! Crowds have been pouring in steadily over the past few weeks. Can you believe it's already been almost 3 weeks since we opened? I sure can't! Well, anyway...

 

- Mad Mouse, one of our star attractions, recently received a new custom station. Guests still seem to love this terrific coaster!

 

- Mine Train, our second roller coaster, opened a few days after the park did. It experienced some minor mechanical issues that thankfully we ironed out quickly. Mine Train also received it's own custom station. It has quickly become one of the most popular rides in the park!

 

- Land clearing has already begun for next year's new attraction. I can't give too much away yet, but I can say that it's sure to be something that all ages can enjoy together!

 

I was able to walk around the park today and take some new pictures:

Mine Train opened a little late, but that didn't stop guests from flocking to the new coaster!

Shoot-the-Chutes is still the most popular ride in the park. Guests seem to love to be refreshed on these hot summer days!

Bumpers was even drawing a line today.

One quick shot of the land clearing - it looks like they've been working on putting up a fence around the site.

Here are some suggestions for the park:

Add some theming to the mine train, the log ride and the wild mouse especially.

For the areas that are un used, save a small plot of trees in the scenery designer and then build them until you park has shrubs over the non used areas (nicer looking).

1st Season

 

Hello again!

 

Time is just flying by! We've already been open a month, and Boulder Leisure Park is doing better than ever! We're preparing for some extra-special Fourth of July festivities, so I hope to be back soon with another update on the celebration.

 

Mad Mouse, Mine Train, and Shoot the Chutes are still the heavy favorites in the park. Our attendance has been rising steadily since the opening of the park, and guests seem to love strolling around in the park on a warm summer evening.

 

On another note, some progress has been made on the construction site. The fence around the site is now completely erected, and some land work has begun. The workers have dug a small pond and created a raised mound of some kind. I still can't say what it will be, but family fun is the driving focus behind this project.

 

Got some more pictures to share:

 

New theming has been constructed for Mine Train.

A mock barn has been built to tie in with the Western theme of the ride.

Mad Mouse also received some new theming.

Mine Train looks better than ever with its new station and theming!

The park has been thriving since summer started!

What's that on the construction site?

Hmmmmm. We'll have to wait and see!

This is looking really good so far. I love how the flume and mine train are compact, yet seem so massive. Honestly, I don't really like the mouse, but I've never really been a fan of mouses that aren't just the off the shelve design. They always seemed a bit unrealistic to me, especially with no banked turns. Other than that I like how this is forming and can't wait to see more!

Hello all!

 

I apologize for the lack of updates recently. I know I said I'd try to get back with some Fourth of July pics, but low-and-behold, it's been more than a month! We've been really busy here at Boulder Leisure Park as we prepare to make an announcement about our new ride for next year. We've also been busy touring other parks to try to get a good idea for what we may want to install over the next several years.

 

Anyway, I do have a few Fourth of July firework pictures:

 

The fireworks were a huge hit!

They were a also a great draw for visitors that weekend.

 

And there's been a bit more activity over on the construction site:

 

Some portions of the ride are already being installed!

 

We plan to make an announcement about the next year's additions in about a month. We'll keep you posted on an exact date.

1st Season

 

Hello all!

 

It's hard to believe that our season is already nearing its end. I don't really have much to say except we're doing well, and onto the pictures!

 

The construction site has seen a lot of activity lately:

 

Some different buildings have been added.

More track pieces have been laid.

Guests are starting to wonder what's peeking over the fence!

 

We have scheduled an official press conference for Saturday, September 16. Our official closing date is two weeks later, Saturday September 30. Until the announcement, any ideas as to what it may be?

 

We'll have to wait and see!

One thing I noticed, the park seems a bit land locked. I would reccomend wider paths and spreading things out more to open it up more. Other than that this is looking really good and defiantly something I'll keep my eye on.

Yes, the park now is a bit crowded. When I designed the scenario, I left a lot of land available for purchase during the game. As I continue to work on it, things will become more spread out. For now though, I don't really have enough guests to need to widen the paths or spread current attractions out. Things will be more spread out as time goes on though. Thanks for the feedback!

EXTRA! EXTRA!

Boulder Leisure Park Announces "Modern Motorcars", new for 1968!

 

 

Boulder, CO (The Denver Post) -- Boulder Leisure Park of Boulder, Colorado announced today their plans for next year. The centerpiece of their additions for next year is "Modern Motorcars" a $2 million new ride. Guests will drive their own car around a track, set among trees and other "old west"-style buildings.

"We've already got two great roller coasters, a log flume, and plenty of other thrilling rides. This year, we wanted to add something that the whole family is sure to enjoy," said Robert Clarke, Public Relations Manager at Boulder Leisure Park. "We're sure this is going to be another top-notch ride!"

Construction has already begun on the ride, although the ride will not open until next spring. Until then, guests can enjoy everything else the park has to offer before they close for the season on September 30.

The park also plans to perform cleaning and annual maintenance on all of the park's facilities before opening next year, amounting to a total $2.5 million spent on seasonal upgrades for next year.

 

Modern Motorcars will be the park's new ride for 1968.

"Old West" style buildings will add to the ride experience.

The new ride will cost million, making it the 4th most expensive ride in park history.

Hello Everyone!

 

Season ended just last week. Hard to believe it went by so fast! I have a few end-of-season pictures to share:

 

The park is relatively quiet on closing night.

Edit: For the sake of having a real post, I will add a little something. Remember, that 2 years before the park opened, Elitch Gardens had one of the worlds top coasters in Mister Twister right down the road. And Lakeside's Cyclone had already been running for 25 years. Denver was quite the hot market back in these here days. Maybe something crazy next?

Just a quick update on the construction of Modern Motorcars:

 

More trackwork has been completed.

Work has also begun on more theming.

 

We expect to open for our 2nd season on Saturday, June 1st, 1968.

Off-Season 1967/68

 

Hello America!

 

Let me start by saying Happy New Year! We're especially excited for this year at Boulder Leisure Park because it means our 2nd season is fast approaching.

 

Our new main draw this year at the park is Modern Motorcars, which you can see below. Construction has been progressing very quickly. We expect to have all structures completed by mid-March, and the vehicles should be onsite by April. We'll finish up a bit of landscaping work before we start testing in May. Everything looks like it will be ready in time for Opening Day, June 1!

 

Construction is moving right along.

The "hotel" building is now complete.

Construction has started on the station building.

 

With the success that Boulder Leisure Park turned out to be this year, we've already begun to plan out our future. Let me just say, you won't be disappointed!

Off-Season 1967/68

 

Hello everyone!

 

I hope you're all well. Just a quick update today - all themed structures are now complete, and the final pieces of track have been laid:

 

All trackwork is now complete.

Custom themed structures and station are finished as well.

We just have to finish up painting the track.

Then we move on to landscaping and finally, testing!

 

The ride vehicles should be on-site in about a month. Until then, we'll be cleaning up the site.

Not a bad start, but maybe I'm just being nit picky, but for taking place in Colorado it seems awfully flat. I'm not expecting the park to be built in the middle of the Rockies but some elevation differences can really set things apart. Far too often it seems like people create flat custom parks where adding some hills and elevation changes throughout can really help add that sense of realism.

Yes, I agree. Somehow, that only occurred to me after I started posting on here. So I looked it up and found this:

 

The City of Boulder is in Boulder Valley where the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Plains.

 

and

 

Boulder lies in a wide basin beneath Flagstaff Mountain just a few miles east of the continental divide and about 30 miles northwest of Denver.

Google Images also has some good pictures showing Boulder at the base of all of these mountains.

 

But yes, I have been planning a storyline for the park that will fix some of the problems that I can't really help right now. For now, I probably won't do much with the elevation, but most likely will do some with it in the future.
