jarmor Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 http://www.kingsdominion.com is now showcasing the "new for 2006" video after the tomb Raider: Firefall. So I guess its official...
Sir Clinksalot Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Well, hopefully whatever everyone seems to hate about PKIs version will be improved for this one. That's certainly how I feel about PKD's Scooby Doo Haunted Mansion when it's compared to the craptacular version at Carowinds. Incidentally, why did the last topic on this get locked? Are we not allowed to rumormonger around here (and if that's the case, why let the B&M hyper rumor thread for Six Flags Over Georgia keep going?)? Not trying to start anything, just honestly curious.
jarmor Posted August 17, 2005 Author Posted August 17, 2005 You dont like the version of scooby doo at carowinds? I think its ok based on the fact that 1) it was placed in an existing building where as pkd was built from the ground up with more room for creativity, 2) Generally things built after something tends to be slight better due to the fact that theres room to improve. I wouldnt go as far as to call it craptacular because its pretty good and all the effects seem to work...
Sir Clinksalot Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Well, clearly part of the problem is, as you mentioned, that they tried to cram it into a preexisting building. But let's not lie here - a well themed queue puts you into a much more positive frame of mind than a non-themed queue. My perception is probably clouded because of that. Okay, maybe "craptacular" was an overly critical turn of phrase. Can I just play the "Carowinds sucks anyway" card? Oh, and I thought of a case where the newer version was worse than the earlier version for Paramount. While I haven't ridden either one, I can't imagine that an outdoor Tomb Raider is anywhere near as cool as the indoor one (even if the ride itself is exactly the same). I realize that any critical sentence that starts with the words "while I haven't ridden either one" is automatically suspect, that one's gotta be a given, right?
jarmor Posted August 17, 2005 Author Posted August 17, 2005 Lol lol. I understand what your saying and yes, a good que really sets the tone for the ride... Having seen TR at PKD (seen not ridden...I dont like lines), it looks very well done with all the effects that like the real fire and the openess and the awesome soundtrack. I have not been to PKI yet but I really like the PKD version.
Erik Johnson Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 I thought Carowinds was a very nice park. Plus the employees were very friendly as well.....Though the Scooby Doo ride was a bit lacking.
SonOfBeastSucks Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 I don't think people go to Carowinds to ride Scooby Doo.
robbalvey Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Incidentally, why did the last topic on this get locked? Are we not allowed to rumormonger around here (and if that's the case, why let the B&M hyper rumor thread for Six Flags Over Georgia keep going?)? Not trying to start anything, just honestly curious. The last thread was locked because someone had mentioned that the photo posted was a fake and was photoshopped. While I don't mind people starting rumors and such, it's another thing to post a doctored photo. And since I couldn't prove it either way, and I know something like that could cause problems for the PR department at the park, people who I know well and who read this forum, I felt it was best to just close it until there is more proof. Hope that makes sense, it was nothing personal, really. --Robb
kenshinmac Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Seriously... If they are gonna build another they need to figure out a way to increase the capacity of the ride. All I have heard are horror stories about the length of the line a few hours after opening. I believe everyone who posts about it here said it was their first ride of the day and after that there was no way they would wait in the line for it again.
SonOfBeastSucks Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 When I rode the Italian Job, the line went fairly quick and it was half the wait time later in the day.
Jonathan Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Oh, and I thought of a case where the newer version was worse than the earlier version for Paramount. While I haven't ridden either one, I can't imagine that an outdoor Tomb Raider is anywhere near as cool as the indoor one (even if the ride itself is exactly the same). Oh, how very wrong you are. And as far as Scooby Doo is concerned, the actual ride itself at Kings Dominion, Canada's Wonderland, and Carowinds are identical. To stay on topic, I also hope they improve Italian Job a bit, or at least get all of the effects working for Kings Dominion.
coasterguy618 Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 I've never been on an Italian Job Stunt Track. Are they fun?
Bubba Z Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 The ride is fun but a little short. As for Tomb Raider , PKI wins with themeing but PKD has the better ride.
SonOfBeastSucks Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 ^ I second that. I hadn't heard much about the ride before my first time (pretty much nothing) and it was a great surprise. The launch feels faster than it is, the first spiral boring- looking element is actualy fun, the helicoptor and stuff shooting at you is actualy cool and the inside part was fun as well.
ShannonSomerville Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 A bunch of us went to PKD yesterday to get our 2006 Season Passes. And,sure enough,we saw the sign for Italian Job. So,it looks like that we are getting it for next year. Also, everything was running, even Hypersonic. Take care. SES
Kingsdominion804 Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 I think Italian Job will suck but I could be wrong... BTW the "offical" name of the coaster is Italian Job: Stunt Coaster... IMO the name is worse than the name pki & pcw got. They were going to name ours Italian Job: Street Chase but they changed it to Italian Job: Stunt Coaster... I hope pkd doen't mess up with this like they did with the poor themeing on Tomb Raider which they completly rushed... But the over all ride on Tomb Raider is awsome!
jarmor Posted September 26, 2005 Author Posted September 26, 2005 Poor themeing on TR...show me a better themed outside topspin and I'll show you and artist rendering lol lol...The themeing is pretty good on TR. I mean you dont wanna take too much from the actual ride.
ParkTrips Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 The launch feels faster than it is, the first spiral boring- looking element is actualy fun, the helicoptor and stuff shooting at you is actualy cool and the inside part was fun as well. I found the opposite. I thought the launch was mild and the spiral died out too much by the time you reached the top. I rode at Wonderland, they didn't have most of the elements working so we didn't get shot at and couldn't see anything in the tunnel I was very disappointed.
Kingsdominion804 Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Nope... the press release said it all... It said highly themed and that mechanical anchient artifacts would surround the rides que line... witch was a cose qoute that said... "as adventures walk pass debries of past failed expeditions... " where are the failed expeditions? ... oh wow some small rocks and some plants... Tomb Raider has noting to do with failed expeditions...
jarmor Posted December 10, 2005 Author Posted December 10, 2005 Keep checking the site since things are going to start picking up now!(so the e-mail states lol lol)
Reon Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 From my rides at PKI, its nice, but not too much to brag about. The launch is a bit slow, but it's pretty smooth so it feels like your just accelerating in a car. The transition into the helix is definately one of the shining moments because of how banked it is, but the thrill starts to die out as you near the spiral's summit. The middle section is moderately fun with microscopic airtime. Its good/bad depending on how you view it. Once you get to the helicopter...its pure bliss if the effects work. You got fire bursting at you, and you may get wet...Then you once again get natural-accelerated launched into a tunnel. Think Flight of Fear black. The tunnel itself is pretty fun, but coming out into the final splashdown is lame. Thats just my review though, so dont take it if you dont want...
Scaparri Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 I'm one of the few enthusiasts that truly loves this ride. I think most of us have a hard time understanding that the coaster wasn't built to be a thrilling ride that has theming. It's like riding Tomb Raider and saying "that Top Spin really sucked" without taking any consideration into the fact that the program was based around the theming. Italian Job is a coaster that was built around the theming. I went in expecting nothing and I loved it. If you can get into the theming, then it's a blast in my opinion. And the coaster by itself is just a lot of fun. The quick turns, jukes, and dives this thing does (sometimes in the dark) make it a great ride. I'll admit that when I first heard about this thing, I wasn't too happy, but I think it's a great addition to any park that gets it now.
jarmor Posted February 20, 2006 Author Posted February 20, 2006 The trains are now finish (but still in premier's warehouse)!! Click the pic to see more shots of the train!! And also it seems as though the park updates the site on a weekly basis so keep checking back to see whats new!
ShannonSomerville Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Looking forward to riding this thing when it finally gets off the ground. Still planning to go on Opening Day. SES
