PREMiERdrum
Interesting... I never knew that they considered Adventure Express part of the Adventure Village / Wild Animal Habitat area. I'd thought it was always part of Oktoberfest! like it is now. (I also wondered why is wasn't part of Adventure Village!)

PREMiERdrum
I was suprised that they got rid of the theme of that area, and replaced it with action zone. Â The investment into Action Zone was meant to be a chest-thump warning shot to SFKK that they planned to keep their domination in the market. The former Six Flags regime had big plans for Kentucky Kingdom, but Paramount wanted to make sure those plans never happened. Â Keep in mind, too, that the Adventure Village themeing had been left to rot thru the American Financial Corp ownership, and was looked rather haggard by the time the animals moved out in '94. Â Interestingly enough, not too long after Paramount used significant investment to intimidate Six Flags from major new development at their Kentucky park, Six Flags used the same tactic (and just as poorly executed) to try to challenge Cedar Point with their newly-flagged and over developed park in Aurora. thrillrider
Interesting. Â I wish they would have left the congo theme, it was much better than what they have today. I like the use of the same theme at kings dominion.
Hockeydad
Whatever your opinion of the Six Flags Stewardship, you must admit they did a better job than Cedar Fair. The animal exhibits made the guest experience unique for Worlds of Adventure. Cedar Fair demanded Six Flags remove them as part of their deal. To their own admittance, Cedar Fair completely underestimated the impact the animal exhibits contributed. Â Oh, I totally agree! SFWoA was a great concept for the region. If it would've been successful the way they'd hoped, the park could've been a great midwestern alternative to some of the Florida parks. Â As for CF, I remember them stating that they don't do animals, and it really came across in some articles like they were really proud of it too. Boy, they messed that one up big time! thrillrider
They used to have the dolphin show at cedar point years ago, so maybe that scared them after what happend.

The concept was great... the execution was dreadful.  We were Six Flags season pass holders during the time of SFO / SFWoA (the Wyandot Lake Season Passes were only $40 and worked at all 6F parks!) so I visited each year the park was there. Had the growth been allowed to happen more organically, and had it been done with a little more foresight, the park would have had a chance.  Although, if a marine life park in northern Ohio was a profitable venture, don't you think Busch would have kept it?
pianojohn
I found some older park booklets for parks that are not around anymore. And there is a booklet from universal studios from 1998. Â My favorite one is the cedar point show schedule for 1987. Anyone remember the hobo band. Â 1987 is when I was playing piano for "Ain't We Got Fun" at Cedar Point and my roommate was one of the trumpet players for the Hobo Band!

The park was not allowed to build rides like the other seaworld were doing. I guess there was some kind of contract between them and geauga lake. adamico2
These are comments that really belong pages ago: Back on page 3, is it possible that a couple pictures of Six Flags Darien Lake snuck in under the guise of SFWoA/SFO? One of them looks like Shipwreck Falls with Mind Eraser on the left and 'Cuda Falls on the right. The second looks like the entrance plaza with S:ROS in the background.  I'm guessing that the extra footers underneath the Beast were residual from before the helix was reprofiled with added banking (around 2003 I believe).  Anyway, I've been enjoying this thread. Thanks for sharing all of your old pics.
C.Diesel
Â Â I really miss this ride. So many memories as a kid. Was back at the park last year for the first time in eight seasons and did not even realize before getting there that it was gone. I was very disappointed for myself and my son who never got the chance to ride it. I get the feeling that they would have been better off to keep it and put Maverick where STR is now. Â I wonder, does anyone remember the log ride on the main midway near the front of the park? Anyone have any pics of it? Â Thrillrider... thanks so much for posting all of these. I grew up in that area spent many summer days at Geauga Lake, Sea World and Cedar Point when I was a kid. It is sad to see what became of Geauga Lake and Sea World. Glad to know that I am not the only one that feels the sting when seeing that. Our family made the trip from halfway across the country last year to go to Cedar Point so that my son could experience it for the first time and he had such a good time that we will be doing it again this year (haven't told him yet). While I find all of the pics that you post interesting, the ones of these parks really hit home. In fact I registered on the board just to make this comment. Â Thanks Again, Â Chris
thrillrider
Thank you. Â Now that you mention it, that picture of the fountain may be darian lake. It looks just like geauga lake, and I probaly got it mixed up. The other picture is of geauga lake though. Â By the way, get ready for a huge update tomorrow. Â Chris, I really miss that ride as well. There is a big void at the park now that it is gone. The other log flume you are thinking of, was called mill race. It was located where raptors entrance is now.
CorkscrewFoley
I believe at one time both Darien and Geauga Lake were run by FUNTime, hence the similarities. But as for CP, I know it's my home park, but it has lost quite a bit of its charm.
thrillrider
I agree. Â I grew up going to cedarpoint. We used to go 15-20 times a year because it was so much fun. It used to have a different feel to it. Now, we may go 5 times a year and I could care less if we did not make it that many times. It's just a jungle of steel and garbage cans now. Â I guess after going to Disney, busch gardens, and a lot of the six flags parks, cedar point just seems kinda "meh". I love coasters just as much as anyone else on this site, but I like the whole park experience as well. You know...dark rides, eye candy, a little theming, decent food, and charm. To me, cedar point is lacking all of those things.
thrillrider
Ok, time for the first park of that huge update I promised. Â This is just some crap I had collected over the years. Â Lots more to come. Here is a menu from the blue bayou restaurant at Disneyland. An aireal view of canadas wonderland. A map of lake winnie. Wheels, bolts, bearings, and lap bar keys. Guide wheel bearing for the legend at holiday world. I know this is a bearing, but not sure to what Bolt from the legend coaster. Another look at that bearing. Lap bar key for the blue streak at cedar point. Just a few of the cups I have collected for some reason. A few from cedar point, and an iron wolf cup from six flags. Some old six flags Elitch gardens crap.

thrillrider
Thank you. Â Anyone remember the coaster EXT event at geauga lake? Back to geauga lake we go. Some coaster EXT memmories. I know there is probaly a few of you, that may be in this picture. I believe this was taken in2006. Here is the banner of all who attended the event. I am on the top row. thrillrider
Found a few cedarpoint pictures. I have some wicked twister construction shots, and some behind the scenes looks at millennium force. Ever wonder what thunder canyon looks like with all the water drained out? Looking down the beach, when wicked twister was being built. Lots of room on the beach for a nice wooden coaster. One last look at wicked twister construction. Now we look at millennium force. I was lucky enough to run the ride. Water dummies. The millennium force computer room. Blue prints on the wall. Millennium force has two computer rooms. This is the computer room for the cable lift. It's located right under the first drop.

thrillrider
Got some more cedarpoint and geauga lake stuff. I have a dragster banner that was in front of the ride the year it opend. Still in mint condition. Next up, I have an old cedar point map. I am not sure of the year, but I am guessing the 60's or early 70's. It was too big to scan, so I just took a bunch of pictures of it. The back of the park. The only way to reach it, was eather by sky ride or train. Wow...has this area changed. It's not listed, but just above the collisium, there is the rotor. Choas now sits there. Looks nothing like it does today. Skywheel and dodgem in the front of the park. I have a lot of memmories walking in this area. The original shoot the rapids. Not sure why, but there were 2 train stations close to eachother. One last look.
thrillrider
Here are some booklets from the cedarpoint resorts, and halloweekends. A few things from geauga lake as well. When six flags owned worlds of adventure, they really pushed season pass sales. $50 for a season pas...not bad. Coaster ext event flyer. More event info. Geauga lake show scheduale. We had a complaint about the locker situation a while back, and the responded with this letter. Over at cedar point, I found these resort booklets from 200, and 2001. I found it funny that they have the same people on the cover. Random front of line passes from cedar point and geauga lake. 2001 fright guide. 2002 fright guide. What I found funny about this, is that they have a ride and slide ticket for halloweekends. Nothing like going to the water park on lake erie in october.
