I didn't really see a Deadliest Catch or a TV thread anywhere.

So this is my favorite TV show. I have some of the seasons on DVD and the new season started just yesterday. What do you guys think of it? I don't understand Captain Jonathan's reasoning for going after Captain Keith. It just sounds like "he said he said" and nothing else. I found the trading of Jake Harris and Jake Anderson to be the most interesting thing to happen in that episode. In a way I always wondered what would happen if those two switched boats and now it's finally happened. I don't really see anything bad coming out of it, but who knows right?

I know about Phil passing away this year and I am a fan of his so it is saddening for me to watch this season and the rest of the seasons for that matter. I also found it ironic that the rescue boat that saved that crew from that sinking ship; Carly Renee, was named the Guardian. Not too long ago I watched that Coast Guard based movie "The Guardian." I am glad nobody was lost to that ship sinking.

This is going to be an interesting season to say the least. The Jake swap was interesting, but I am thinking that Jake Anderson will go back to the Northwestern after Phil passes due to Jake Harris taking the rest of the season off.

Here is some information I found via the CM blog. Don't read any further if you don't want to read spoilers about the CM season.

The F/V Cornelia Marie will finish Opilio fishing in a few weeks. Our current skipper, Derrick Ray has done his best to finish off this tough season. As stated earlier, Derrick is an old family friend who started his career earlier on the precursor to the Cornelia Marie – the F/V Milky Way. The Milky Way was one of the boats owned by Ralph Collins who owned and built the F/V Cornelia Marie.

The CM was also having mechical problems and was in port to have a reduction gear repaired for almost 3 weeks. Which is probably a good thing for the crew to be able to mourn the loss of Phil.

Josh and Jake also took the rest of the season off after Phil passed (understandable). Josh and Jake are part owners of the boat, so they will always have the choice of fishing on it.

The F/V Cornelia Marie has been out of commission since the middle of February with a replacement of our “reduction gear” needed. This has been a costly and burdensome repair. The entire crew has been off since Capt. Phil’s memorial on February 21st.

Finally, the crew is headed back to Alaska to finish up the long Opilio season. We still have a couple of trips left to meet our crab quota. Unfortunately, most of Alaska, including Dutch Harbor is experiencing a late winter storm with blowing snow and freezing temperatures.

Despite the icy conditions, the Cornelia Marie is anxious to get back to work. The crew consists of Derrick Ray as skipper, Steve Ward as Engineer, deck boss Freddie Maugatai and deck hand Ryan Simpson. We will be hiring another fisherman from Dutch Harbor to help out while the boys are away. Josh and Jake are dealing with their father’s affairs and it is unknown if they will return to finish the season.

Phil's ashes will be spread out at the beg. of next year's king crab season.

I personally find the show very over rated. I see how it is vary dangerous and it is interesting, but I dont find it thatinteresting. It is guys fishing for crabs in treacherous conditions, very intense, but every season is veery similar IMO. That being said, my parents love this show and I bought my dad a northeastern(thats a crab boat on the show, right) at Epcot signed by the captain of the ship. I just dont find these shows very entertaining and it just kind of bores me.

^ Actually its The Northwestern. I don't see it being over rated, its just what people like. I myself am a big fan of the show. Phil was my favorite captain. It was heartbreaking to hear he had passed. It was painful for me to see the trials he went thru when he had that aneurysm in his lungs and he was absent from the Cornelia Marie for awhile. It was quite a different atmosphere on the boat. He just brought an amazing energy. I was very happy when he came back. The thing with shows like this is you really get to like these guys, you see the trials they go thru and all their emotions.I believe Phil came in on season 2. Even though I never knew him personally a piece of me is missing. I enjoy the show and I will continue to follow it, but now that he is gone the show will never be the same. Its just like the loss of Dale Earnhardt, I was a huge fan of him, and the day he hit that wall in Daytona my heart sunk. Nascar never felt the same!!

i think that clip robb posted was from "deadliest crotch", anyways, phil passing wasn't a surprise, he got blood clots and kept smoking and it looked like he gained weight, i mean he almost died once and then didn't take care of himself, was just a matter of time, my daughter loves the show cause she thinks all the crabs end up at costco

I think it was great for a season...maybe two, but year after year episode after episode it's just the same over and over again.

Pull up crabs, drop cages, where are the crabs, fights amongst crew, yay crab, pull some joke, dramatic possible problem, pull up crabs, repeat!

I think I speak for many DC fans when I say that I like the show because it isn't fake (for the most part atleast). This isn't some MTV bullcrap and I have to respect the life of these fishermen. I got to admit not all shows that are like this are interesting. I didn't really care for the whale show on Animal Planet or Swords. I am also a film student, so I find the production interesting as well. I am a fan of Mike Rowe too and his other show; Dirty Jobs, is another good one. He also does the Ford commercials which is awesome. The only other shows that I'll watch repeately are Mythbusters, Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations, and Man vs Food.

Did anyone catch the show tonight? The intro to the show raised my eyebrow a little. Jake Harris was in the water and the Northwestern crew was yelling "He's being sucked under by the prop!" Well this show didn't explain what happened any further. I think all we know is that this accident occurs while Jake Harris and Jake Anderson get back onto their original boats. Luckily; it seems, that Jake Harris had his survival suit on. As for the rest of the show it seemed the shortage of bait caused most of the drama.

One thing bothered me while watching this show and the other Deadliest Catch episodes that were leading up to the newest episode tonight. They appear to be using a new intro boat. It always used to be the Wizard...

Now it's some computer generated boat that looks god awful compared to the bad ass Wizard they use in the above picture. I don't know what that's all about, but the new intro looks horrible.

I watched the newest episode tonight. I don't know what to say about the stroke that Phil had, but I guess it answered some questions I had like did it happen on the boat and did it happen on camera. It was hard for me to watch this season because I knew about Phil passing, but it looks like Josh wants to continue to run the boat.
