Hey, so I was wondering, without looking it up, do you think the name "Luca" sounds like a boys name or a girls name? Thanks in advance

I think it's more of an Italian male name. The hard C gives it a masculine feel. Not to mention Luca Brasi in the Godfather

Personally, I'm not a big fan of ambigious gender names.

^^^ That is the first thing I thought of too. I was actually going to post it until I scrolled down and saw that you already did. Luca sounds feminine to me because I associate it with the song.

Masculine. Very similar to Luke with an ugh sound at the end and does not at all sound feminine. I don't get why some people think Luca is feminine.

It's the Italian (and probably other similar languages) version of my name, Luke. In the same sense that Luka (as used by Ms. Vega) is the Croatian/Russian/etc equivalent of the name.

 

I guess that doesn't really tell you how it *sounds*, but it's certainly a male name. Lucia would be the feminine version, akin to Lucy.

 

As an example, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, the president of Ferrari, is a man. And there's a small town in the boot's toe of Italy called San Luca, named for St. Luke (as opposed to St. Lucy).

^^ I'm surprised by that too. I notice many of the other people who have responded to this topic are younger than us. Maybe they did not associate the name with the song immediately like we did.

I've always viewed it as a masculine pet name. My mother calls my stepfather Luca all the time (seeing as his middle name is Lucassien).

It's a masculine name. I've known people with that name before and they're all male.
