Rugged One Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 I felt like something a little more light and refreshing tonight, so I decided to try another one of the Boonville Beers. The Poleeko Gold Pale Ale. Just the kind of Pale Ale that goes good with a hot summer's day. Makes me allready wish it was warmer. BTW, thanks for the recommendation Wally. Now that's how I like my Pale Ales. Nice and hoppy and crisp!
CoasterJunkie Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 Wally, she works at SeaWorld in Orlando..
DorneyDude Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 Then it was on to several Sam Adams Winter Lagers and Victory Hop Devils. That's a pretty nice looking bar setup you have there Tom. So how do you like the Delerium Tremens? I see it all the time at my local place and was wondering how it is. I'm not a huge fan of Belgian Ales but I'm always up for trying a highly recommended one. Thanks! I'm quite proud of it, although since I am starting to homebrew more, I may have to add a third tap. Delerium Tremens is one of the Belgians I cut my teeth on. It's not as smooth or complex as St. Bernardus Abt 12, but it's common (for a Belgian) and very good. Bethlehem Brew Works had it on tap a while back at their Steelgaarden lounge and I found it to be so much more drinkable than out of the bottle. Either way, it's definitely worth a try.
DerekRx Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 Today was quite busy at work. So busy, in fact, that I didn't get lunch. So when I got home (an hour later than usual), I decided I was hungry and that I needed to eat. If only work would allow me to drink beer for lunch every day! Weyerbacher Winter Ale and horseradish cheddar beef stick, a happy "lunch" at 5:30pm
Rugged One Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 A little bar is definitley something I'd like to add to the house at some point. I like the setup you have there with the double taps. It's pretty sharp looking. I'm definitley going to have to check out the Tremens next time I can. I'd really like to start trying some actual Belgians and this sounds like a good place to start. I guess a visit to the Steelgaarden is in order as well. Speaking of Belgian's, here's a local one I tried tonight. The Belgian Frostbite Winter Ale by Riverhorse Brewing in Lambertville, NJ. I'm hoping to actually visit this brewery in a couple of days. I'll take some pics.
DerekRx Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Starting off the night with my last Weyerbacher Autumnfest. Its going to be a long 8 months before I can get this again. Looks like its off to the beer distributor tomorrow to pick up a case of something else, as I'm starting to run low again (down to only 9 varieties). It brings a tear to my eye, knowing how long I'll have to wait for this again Though its not Autumn anymore, this beer still rules My last bottle of Autumnfest
DerekRx Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Its dinner time! Beer, pizza, and a camera phone. (I think I'd drop $600 camera phone before I'd sacrifice my beer or pizza!)
Shockwave Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Looks nice! I finally tried Leffe for the first time in a bar the other night, and I was pleasantly surprised. And you can drink and keep your figure!

I'm really suprised you get it in PA. That's awesome that you like. I hope to do a tour of their brewery sometime after the new year. I have 2 weeks of vacation in Jan. What else can do? ...oh yeah, I bought a house. Maybe I better paint or something.
Hattuchili Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Today I had a "Köstritzer Schwarzbier"! It was the first time I had one of those! However, it was really good tasty! Here are some pixtures: Köstritzer Schwarzbeer and my new mug from R+E! Mhhh, taste very good! --Sören
DerekRx Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Guess who got paid today and went beer shopping!? I went local themed this round, picking up a variety pack of Victory and another one of Tröegs. At least I'll have plenty of choices for New Years. Tonight's selection, Tröeg's Lager. Its Bavarian Style, but it doesn't wear Lederhosen, kinda like Sören!

I have 2 weeks of vacation in Jan. What else can do? ...oh yeah, I bought a house. Maybe I better paint or something. I've seen the Anderson Valley stuff more in local bars than I have at actual distributors around here. I get mine at a place near where I work in MD that sells six packs and singles. I hear ya on the whole getting work done on the house during vacation thing. I've had this past week off and I swore that I would finish, finishing my basement. Gee, do you think that happened? Vacation's too short when you have good beers to drink. Have I mentioned how much I like this place? Finally, I finished up with a Rogue Amber Ale. I next had a Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout from North Coast Brewing. Rather good. Booneville in da house! A Rogue Dead Guy Ale. It's better when it's dead! KClingers is a member of the "Rogue Nation", so I knew what I had to start out with first. So tonight Kim and I met her parents at KClingers for dinner, which is a pretty decent beer bar with over 30 brews on tap and another 200 or so bottles available. After that letdown, I needed to renew my confidence in the company. A Robert the Bruce Scottish Ale did just the trick. Much better. The Black Sun Stout from Three Floyd's Brewing. My first real disappointment from them. It had a real watery pour and a pretty bland taste. I expected better.
4718 Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Got all stocked up for the Palm Springs New Year's trip tonight with the help of Beverages and More, got a 4 pack of Beamish, a Paulaner Hefe-Weizen, a Hofbrau Haus Munchen (actually ate at the real one in Germany, so it's cool to find it), and some kind of cheap Russian beer.....can't remember then name now that I've downed it. Wally and Soren raved so much about the Beamish that I had to get it when I saw it, just hope that you guys don't let me down and it sucks for some reason.........you've been right about the others though, so I don't think it'll fail me.

Rugged One Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Yeah, I guess they all can't be winners. One of these days (like when I actually make it to the brewery) I would like to try the Dark Lord Russian Imperial. That's the one everyone seems to rave about.
PhishyBrewer Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 I tasted one of the many beers Ted sent me. Today it was the Penn Pilsner. Not bad... not bad at all. I'm going to have to send you one of my favorite Pilsners Ted. This beer gets a 2 out of 2 horns on the Slayer Beer Rating Scale!!! The taste... Nice color. One of the darkest Pilsners I've seen. I believe this beer is Anchor Steam bottle opener material. Penn Pilsner from the Penn Brewery
PhishyBrewer Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 I just paid my last month of rent. The next payment I make will be on my very own home. So I'd thought I'd celebrate before I head off to bed. Penn Gold from the Penn Brewery. It's not a bad beer, but very very different. Would make a great summer refresher!!!
Rugged One Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Your making me jealous Wally. You're having PA beers that this Pennsylvanian hasn't even tried yet. Well tonight I had a beer from probably my favorite brewery right now. Bear Republic Brewing in Healdsburg, CA. Everything I've had from them so far has been delicious. Tonight it was the Big Bear Black Stout and it didn't disappoint at all. After that I tried the latest from the Clipper City Brewing Heavy Seas line, the Loose Cannon Hop3 Ale. This had a decent aroma and initial bite but considering that it's tripled hopped, didn't leave much of a finish. It was decent enough I suppose. I hope you all have a great New Years and be safe. And take lots of pictures! The Heavy Seas Loose Cannon. Pretty decent but I've had better from the line. The Big Bear Black Stout. I got mauled and loved every minute of it.

Enjoy them while you can, Healdsburg and the Napa Valley is now under water during the rain were having right now. I-80 is closed due to flooding and my new house is also in danger of being destroyed.
Rugged One Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 That really sucks man. I heard about flooding in CA yesterday but didn't hear exactly where. I just checked out the yahoo article and things look pretty bad. Where are you right now in relation to the flooding? You haven't moved into the new house yet right? Keep us posted and good luck!
DerekRx Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 I had to celebrate New Years Eve Eve the only way I know how! I recently heard that BBW's brewer, Lewis, was leaving for Dogfish Head. I had to get some of his last brews before he goes. His replacement comes from Pyramid Brewing in California. Anyone hear anything about it? Ah, and the fridge is still fully stocked. Let's try to make a dent in that, shall we? Sam Adam's Winter Lager is up first Let's have a try! Then I decided that since I was nearby, I'd break into my Regional Rep's house to steal some of his A-list passes. Then I got sidetracked and ended up in his bar Then I get reunited with my Mug and we share a CH-47 IPA I start off by going to Bethlehem Brew Works for my free pimp goblet full of Devil's Hearth
DerekRx Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Where was the propriator of the establishment anyway? And I finished off the night with a Hobgoblin And we ended up watching coaster videos As we drank, our true nature came out Followed by one of Tom's favorite Belgian's, some Saint who isn't the Pope It was then time for some trivia Then I was offered a Magic Hat Batch 372 Pretty good stuff, especially for the kit being over a year old and using generic yeast. Watch out Wally, you've got some competition! Here he comes with a free sampling Why he was outside brewing his own Irish Red Ale
Eagle Rider Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Schafly Expedition Reserve Ale, in honor of Lewis & Clark The label is nice, the ale isn't bad either.
PhishyBrewer Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 After I got off work at 7am and driving through flooded I-80, I was ready for some brews. One of my all time favorite beers. Saved the Hop Devil for just such a day.
